I mean, we're talking different levels of fucked over I feel like. For example, at the more extreme end you've got stuff here like the fit for work assessments at job centres being outsourced to really shitty companies which in turn means people who are very much not capable of working are getting their benefits sanctioned when that's all they have to live on. Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but yours is some stuff which is annoying and inconvenient and making their lives harder, but they're not actually having to struggle to survive, right?

It's not struggle to survive level, but for many it has been find new lines of work or face 40–60% unpaid overtime hours. And for others it's been huge additional fees which means cutting staff or trying to raise prices to unfair levels and stuff like that.

But we can all play the oppression olympics. When I think struggle to survive, I think children in third world countries whose parents died of AIDS and malaria, and who have nothing to eat. I think of women whose only recourse in their dirty village is to sell their bodies for money. Bottom line, somebody else is struggling more than you. So it's not a salient point to say it's okay to turn many people's work life into a nightmare for a mostly fruitless (albeit well-intentioned) effort.

I imagine third world countries are that, magnified. Some of my relatives live in third world countries and I hear horror stories from them. I don't particularly like America but I am super grateful to live here as it is 100000x better than living in a war torn or impoverished land

not to belabor the point but I think what made me lose interest in the punk thing was just how one dimensional the whole thing was. I get that there are different styles but it was all just about being angry about one thing or another. That's fine sometimes. But in the end, I guess what I want most from music is inspiration to look at life from many different vantages and punk just wasn't doing that for me.
