well, I mean, everything is better than Quantum of Solace

Except for like, 60% of Bond movies. Have you sat down and watched shit like View to a Kill or Diamonds are Forever recently? They make Quantum look like Casino Royale. Spectre is mayyybe one baby step above the Roger Moore pap.

This is as bad as Spectre...?

You can listen to the OST preview on Amazon, too. Let's just say it's nothing but remixes and quite..........forgettable.

What.

That's really surprising. I mean Powell didn't dramatically change the score between the movies, but he didn't need to. Forgettable though?

That said, some composers choose really weird stuff to put on their OSTs and tend to leave out the action tracks. Zimmer does it sometimes. IIRC, I don't think the Marie death/Paz chase music was on the soundtracks either which was a big omission to me.

That stuff about Identity definitely explains why Supremacy fucking sucked so much RE: offing Marie for no goddamn reason

Nah, it was a good idea. Shocking move and gave Bourne motivation for the next two movies. He's most efficient when he's alone. That said I'm terrified that Nicky is going to have to die in this movie for similar reasons, and to make way for Alicia Vikander.

ok guys just got back from a pre-screening, big fan of the original trilogy

i'd give this movie a solid 6.5/10

the shakycam is out of fucking control, no plot spoilers but a very vague scene spoiler below to highlight the absurdity of it:

theres a part where bourne is thumbing through a notebook, not an action scene, and even in this scene the shakycam is going full blast and you can hardly make out what the fuck hes reading

95% of the movie is shakycam

Man. I've waited 9 years for this film. I was googling for Bourne news almost everyday....for nine freaking years. I have a feeling this will definitely be the weakest one yet.

Only 5% more and we're there!

No way is it worse than Legacy. At all.

But yeah it's almost certainly the weakest Damon Bourne, but I mean the other three were close to perfect for me and this can't take that away from them.

to those that have watched it, are the fight scenes shaky cam? i really hate that shit

Yeah I guess. Its ashame though. I'll watch the movie and form my own opinion, but for now I think they should just reboot the franchise or cast a new lead which is be fine. Also, find a competent and good director. Don't treat the franchise as a C tiered action/thriller.

I was thinking the reviewer had to be wrong, it couldn't possibly be worse than Spectre, then . . .
Greengrass' confounding close-ups and handheld-camera fetish makes action scenes incoherent. You won't believe how much of this movie is literally out of focus.

Eh, I always felt Greengrass was one of the few who used "shaky cam" effectively. You could always understand the fights, and they gave the combat a frenetic frantic atmosphere. Now compare that to Taken 3, and you see the difference between a director using shaky cam and handheld to cover up bad stuntwork and such, and one using shaky cam and handheld stylistically

This is me.

The Trilogy is my favourite action franchise. I listen to the OST pretty much every day.

Reaction of people so far is such a bummer.

Not worried about a shaky cam-filled movie if it's Greengrass. What I am worried about is Damon's dialogue. Is it true that he barely speaks in this one?

Yes, but that was also the case for Supremacy and Ultimatum. There's 15+ minute stretches where he says nothing, and when he does talk it isn't a lot.

Dara O'Briain did a series of podcasts for the new film:

http://rss.acast.com/jasonbournethepodcasts

JASON BOURNE: Dara O’Briain talks to Matt Damon

Dara O’Briain sits down with star Matt Damon to discuss Jason Bourne’s improvised fighting style, working with English director Paul Greengrass, the development of the Bourne franchise and the changes in Hollywood since the making of the Bourne Identity in 2002.

JASON BOURNE: Dara O’Briain with Matt Damon, Paul Greengrass and Frank Marshall

Dara Ó Briain is joined by director Paul Greengrass, producer Frank Marshall and star Matt Damon to discuss the differences between Bourne and Bond, the role of Bourne as an anti-establishment hero and the identity crisis central to the development of the character.

JASON BOURNE: Shooting the Action

Dara Ó Briain is a sucker for a great chase scene. He wants to know how they are planned, created and executed, which is exactly what he finds out in this feature. Dara is joined by director Paul Greengrass and the creative team behind Jason Bourne to discuss the making of the film franchise’s jaw-dropping chase scene in Las Vegas.

Just watched this. It's better than the Jeremy Renner Bourne film, but the worst of the Damon ones. The third act really drags. Some of the action scenes also run a bit too long as well. Writing could have been better and the plot is very predictable. Was a bit diaspointed overall.

That said, Alicia Vikander looks stunning in this. She is gorgeous.

Seems like this is the Crystal Skull of the Bourne franchise.

67% on Rottentomatoes and 62 on Metacritic doesn't sound that bad. It definitely seems like is not as good as the original trilogy, but I still have certain level of hype for see Matt Damon wrecking stuff. Jesus Christ, he is Jason Bourne.

Damn. Ultimatum is the movie I keep coming back to when I think what my favorite action movie of all time might be. Legacy was okay, but I never had a real emotional connection to that one. The trilogy, though, is lean, efficient storytelling with a singular focus executed with masterful filmmaking. And the action. Oh, man, the action. Bourne's meticulous-yet-improvised methodology is hypnotic.

I really really want this one to be good. At least on the action level.

Damn it at all the mediocre ratings.

I was waiting for so long and we get this?!!!!!!!

I guess I'll continue to consider it as a trilogy and forget about the rest.

I find myself not rewatching Supremacy and Ultimatum that much because I find the shakeycam incredibly obnoxious even if a bit better than other films (like the aforementioned Taken 3 and 2). It's partly the reason I think Bourne Identity is still by far the best of the series but then I also think Doug Liman is a far superior director compared to Greengrass anyway, I would love to know why he never came back after the first film.

There's a couple parts of Ultimatum I like more than Supremacy, but Supremacy is still my favy. Identity is great, but Bourne smiles in that. We can't be having such nonsense now can we.

Yeah supremacy is the best Bourne movie by far for me. Probably even the best spy action movie of the century too tbh with just casino royale giving it a run for its money

Identity feels like a TV movie compared to Supremacy and Ultimatum

Land yeah, Supremacy is easily the best of the series. Great movie. First time I saw the movies when they came out I thought it was the worst for some reason. LOL.

Did you fall asleep during the car chase at the end or something.

I knew from the moment I saw Supremacy, their was no way they'd top it.

He didn't come back because the studies banned him, even going as far as threatening him he'd never make another film again. Liman took that threat seriously.

Just google it. There's a good piece in the New Yorker on him. He's been called "Limania".

And Supremacy is my favorite. The plot is fanstatic, especially the ending with Neski daughter. And the soundtrack. Berlin Foot Chase is amazing.

+1 on the Supremacy love. Best action sequences and soundtrack of the series. Gave the series an emotional weight which was somewhat lacking in Identity.

I'll still end up watching this but am disappointed by the reception.
