that's how the world works though.

I guess so eh

Forget it, Sora87. It's Chinatown.

Why does he wear the mask!?
Jason Bourne.

Enjoyed it.

Still hate Greengrass as a director. His fight/car chase scenes give me motion sickness.

The US version is what Kubrick originally envisioned. IIRC, the European cut was a pretty harsh response to the initial criticism that the film got, so it gutted about a half hour. Reading over some of the scenes that got cut, it seems like the European cut is a good deal more incomprehensible. It could be to its benefit from an atmospheric perspective, who knows! but I think it's safe to say that it's not the ideal way to see it for the first time.

Alright, I'll go with the US version then, and will check out the EU cut if I'm interested. Thanks.

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - Hitchcock

This is one of my favorite movies of his, especially cause of the tone. Although there is this sort of serious collusion, there's a playfulness in it which is very charming (you can see this by how the film ends). Doris Day and Stewart play each other really well, and her dramatic scene feels really earned after the entire first section. It gets a little too funny (get me the prime minister of the phone!!!, or the very obvious taxidermist scene) but all in all it's just a very fun thriller, with an opulent well directed set piece at Alberta Hall.

I watched Bone Tomahawk today.
What an outstanding film. Loved everything about it: the claustrophobic sense of impending doom, the scenery, the acting (yeah, even Matthew Fox was decent enough in this!), everything worked so damn well.
Such a shame Zahler didn't like Blood Meridian though, because sure as hell I would have loved seeing him adapting that book!

EDIT:
I've been thinking of watching The Lobster with my girlfriend tonight. Is it worth watching? Reviews have been great but I'm not one for pretentious artsy stuff if that's what this is (I have no idea).

Lanthimos is one of the brightest minds working in this industry today and The Lobster is his most accessible work for obvious reasons but I'm not sure it's the film I'd want to watch with my girlfriend. :lol And I say that not because it's "pretentious artsy stuff" but more because of the theme of the movie. But that aside, yeah, it is worth watching.

10 Cloverfield Lane

Overall I thought the movie was pretty good. John Goodman probably plays the most creepiest/disturbed character I've seen him play in any of his films.

I'm certainly interested in seeing what happens with the franchise going forward.

Saw Ghost busters last week. Was pretty funny, but the villain was week.

It goes Ghost Busters > Ghost Busters 2016 > Ghost Busters 2

Top 5 best watches in July:

1. O.J.: Made in America
2. Wiener-Dog
3. The Green Mile
4. Medium Cool
5. Midnight Special

Are we counting this as a movie? Think I might finally dive into this this weekend.

Medium Cool might be my next Criterion sale blind buy.

Criminal: It's like Face/Off mixed with The Fugitive, I guess. It's bad, but I could actually see myself watching this movie like 5 more times to get down to the bottom of it.

It's a great film. But you won't like it.

Oh now I remember this. It was featured on MST3K.

Lol it was terrible... I just wanted to check out a big ass monster movie. Have not watched many of the original Godzilla's. Fandor has Destroy All Monsters too so I may watch that tonight and see if it manages to scratch the itch.

Two women take a vacation in a cabin in the woods. They both act weird and the entire time you as audience is experiencing creepy feelings.

It was fantastic. I don't know what more to say so to not spoil it, it's a study in
psychopathy
.

Dude spoil the shit out of this please! What is this Gs origin? Does it setup sequels? Whos the villain? Any more monsters? What's the deal with the design? How does it rank with the other movies?

Rewatched 2 David Lynch movies:
Lost Highway - stays one of my favorites of him, maybe even the favorite. I fucking love this flick, every little thing about it. Just genius all around - atmosphere, characters, actors, soundtrack, story. Everything.
Blue Velvet - I liked it more than my first time, a cool movie with some little bad parts...but still great. I love the whole duality concept of the film and the bugs metaphors, and of course Frank Booth.

I haven't watched a lot at all lately, but I have been actually been some heavy editing for the past couple of months so I guess I have an excuse.

That being said, I had the chance of watching Pretty Poison one of the films on Edgar Wrights' 1000

I thought it was a lot of fun. I love seeing Anthony Perkins in anything, to be honest.

I just interpreted it as
the egotistical side to friendship and what someone expects to "gain" from a relationship, including objectification of others.

I'm annoyed I took so long to watch Finding Nemo now, cos it was real awesome, and is now near the top of the Pixar list for me.

As always with Pixar, its full of subtext, about letting people do things despite 'disabilities' (Nemo's lucky fin huh), its also touching, sad, funny, and pretty damn tense.

And the voice acting is amazing. The design of.. well its not the design of the fish, cos its a fish, its the way Pixar can take something like a fish, and make it look endearing. Thats awesome. I loved it.

Also, Dory is amazing. Just keep swimming...

Jason Bourne: ★★☆☆☆

Went to see this the other day with a friend hoping that it would be better than The Bourne Legacy and boy was I wrong. Bad acting, boring characters, generic story, predictable plot, mediocre action, annoying direction; not my kind of movie. There's really nothing more to say.

Edit: Also, shaky cam is the worst.

Same thing happened with me. I just saw it for the first time this summer. It's really good and one of the better Pixar movies for sure, a lot of which I tend to find are overrated.

The Anderson Tapes - Sidney Lumet

The poster is definitely more stylish than the film itself. Probably one of the most average movies by Lumet. It's not a particularly polished film. Just a very regular caper movie, with a more realistic perspective. The film title alludes to two situations, one which is sort of a "stone in the shoe" of the plot resolution and the other just a very bizarre series of events that go absolutely nowhere nor do they have any meaning cause we have no idea why they started in the first place. Quincy Jones music is unlistenable. A bunch of fucking blips. Not joking.

Jason Bourne - Mindblowingly ass. Like wow. Paul Greengrass was supposed to save the summer, not leave it in darkness

Bro I fell asleep for like 15 minutes during this movie lol. It was so bad. Like I'm debating whether or not it's better than spectre....yeesh

On the plus side it was nice to see Bourne again, dude moves like no other. Always so efficient and quick. And hearing some of the series soundtrack again was nice...that's about it.

The soundtrack is quite good, I will say that. John Powell and that other guy, not sure about the division of labor, but they showed the fuck up. For many minutes at a time, they are the sole thing of interest.

The Lobster: Great film. It's so beautiful just to look at. Lots of natural light and lingering wide shots. A much bigger film than dogtooth, and all the better for it.

Laura Dern can't act for shit. I hate her as an actress...and the scene when
Mike starts threatening Jeffery and they find Dorothy naked outside, and then they where inside and she was huging him naked - was pretty bad IMO
But mainly I just fucking hate Laura Dern and cringed everytime she got screen time. I always didn't like her but after watching Inland Empire I started to REALLY hate her, irrationally even.

Watched Huntsman: Winter's War for date night (streaming on iTunes). Wife and I really enjoyed it, while its pretty cliche and there really aren't any strong story plot points, its enjoyable to watch as a sort of "evil Frozen" and the actors are all great, especially with Kirsten Stewart gone as Snow White. Emily Blunt is fantastic as evil Elsa, I mean Freya, and Jessica Chastain is adorable as the worst Scottish (?) accent in the world. Just like the first one, Charlize Theron steals every scene she is in with her over the top acting.

Perfect relationship movie. Also, see Blue Valentine along with it.

I'd say he was excellent. Probably my favorite part of the film actually. Hats off to you, Mr. Fox.

Regression: What a dreary slog of a movie. It's visually uninteresting, it makes a big deal out of plot twists that are insanely obvious, and Emma Watson is surprisingly bad. I had a few issues with Prisoners, but this movie really puts into perspective how good that one actually was.

whatever happened to the badmoviegaf twitter bot

Hardcore Henry: So much better than I expected, not necessarily in the narrative department but definitely in the fun department. Some sequences bordered on being way too close to a live action video game, but others were honestly pretty inventive, due in part to what the audience can actually see. I'd probably say it's a 7/10 on the action movie scale.

Crush the Skull

Saw it had a 100% on RT and very good reviews. Was expecting a horror film with black humor, but I was left with a watered down Scary Movie. There were highlights like
the main character shouting "I'm a white person" to the cops so they would pay her attention or "I told you the bitch was fucking evil" after the plot twist.
But everything else was mediocre at best.

It's a good movie to watch on a lazy saturday afternoon while you try to take a nap, but not the masterpiece some people were telling me about. I'm kind of wondering if I just watched a completely different movie with the same title.
Damn, that girl is cute.

The Innkeepers. This was a really fun movie. Sara Paxton really stole the show. I've never really heard of her before that I recall but I loved her personality in this. The movie was almost a comedy until the very end. Which I didn't care so much for the ending. Like I didn't feel it wrapped up adequately. Otherwise it was a damn fun movie to watch and looked good too.

1. The man from earth. This movie pretty much takes place in one room and is filled with some very interesting dialogue. Its not a big budget movie though.

2. Singstreet. I really enjoyed the music in this one. Its also filled with some funny moments as well.

3. Coherence. This is a trippy one, but pretty good.

4. Occulus. I think this movie was pretty bad. Not scary at all.

Cipher Peon on Suicide Squad

I'm coming home from watching the movie and...
Oh my fucking god. 10/10 doesn't even cover it.

One of the absolute greatest films I've ever seen in my life. I'm still shaking and I left the movie about two hours ago. Wow...

I miss him dearly
