Vesper(2022).

I watched it last night. I'm not very good at articulating my thoughts into reviews but I thought it was decent, not sure if its the type of movie I'd go out to watch but still worth the asking price. The world is almost as grim as The Road, with a dash of Cronenberg in their as a bonus as well. The story sags a bit in the middle but there's a lot going on in the world and it lets your figure most of it out for yourself so I suppose it might be for the best. No hand holding which worked for me.

The film reminds me of something else and I can't quite put my finger on it.

I watched it on my OLED G2 and it looked absolutely fantastic, the whole thing reminded me of a few mushroom trips I had back in the day.

7.0/10 .


Edit: The sound track deserves a mention as well. Really added to the atmosphere.

Pleasantly surprised by how entertained I was by this one, particularly after seeing how it was lambasted by reviewers. It's just an overall fun romp, with appealing characters/dialogue, twists and turns. Action sequences are well-done (if not over the top) and the comedic elements are well-delivered. It's got those Guy Ritchie vibes with Kill Bill mixed in there. It's a movie made with the purpose of entertaining the viewer while not being taken too seriously...on that, it delivers. 8/10

It wasn't a movie but a limited series....

The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback (I didn't realize she was the same actress from Power with Jaime Foxx)

It was like Flowers for Algernon but the ending was so dang heartbreaking! You go with this old man and this young teenager both growing and becoming more than they currently were and you experience their highs and lows... Sometimes VERY lows. It was the best show I've seen this year. You'll definitely cry more than once per episode!

Came here to post this almost exactly pretty much. The first half was an interesting setup with absolutely zero payoff at the end, just metaphorical agenda. Couldn't have been more disappointed with the last 3rd of the movie.

DC League of Super Pets - fun family movie. The animation is really good. It has maybe the best lighting I’ve seen in an animated movie. Really goofy watching the JL fight super powered Guinea pigs. I think it’d be great for kids about around ten years old.

Finally watched The Courier.

Of course, immediately after that, I did a little digging to see how historically accurate it seemed to be. The liberties they took with it don't seem to change the truth of the story, really. All that aside, I found it to be very interesting, a little predictable (in terms of dramatic flair, etc.), very well acted (Cumberbatch has quite the range). A very moving and affecting story. Whew... Also, everything that happened makes so much sense (i.e., why they looked at him to be the courier).

Definitely worth a watch for those interested in these sorts of things.

Solid psychological drama/horror story that could have benefited from better effects for the brief time they were used.

The thumbnail is misleading for those that want to remain unspoiled, while the trailer tells most everything.

There were insightful liberties with the concept that added charm.

Old from M. Night Shyamalan wasn't as bad as many people are calling it to be (like the worst horror of last year and it's not even a horror). The movie works well as a drama to see people cope with diseases and old age. Some dialogues are horrible (especially the ones given to the kids characters), but not horrible enough to make you stop watching. The movie also did well with the casting choices for the same characters.

I liked the explanation even though the last twist wasn't that necessary. I'd just stop with the explanation and let the 'cycle' continue.

This movie was just pure fun. Amazing dialogue especially. It felt a lot like Guy Ritchie films, and I wouldn't mind a movie just with those Lemon & Tangerine characters. They were awesome. I really liked Aaron Taylor-Johnson a lot in this.

watched "Hatching" last night. i liked it but was far too predictable. guessed how it was gonna end before it was even half way in lol.

today i watched "X". not sure about it. only watched it because of Mia Goth. wasn't bad but i don't know just a bit boring. there was a reveal at the end but not sure what it was all about. might give "Pearl" a watch if i can find somewhere to stream it.

tried, again, to watch "The Wailing" but couldn't focus on it. about half way in i turned it off.

Mandatory viewing once I become entertainment czar of the west. Marvel movie production will be given a sentence of 10 years minimum in work camps.

I was disappointed. The story is great but Peter Farely (Dumb and Dumber) directed this and none of the humor worked for me. Plus my brain could never get past pointing out "That's Zac Efron" for the whole film.

watched The Last Duel today.

took me a while to get hooked and it was a little tedious seeing some scenes multiple times but overall i quite enjoyed it. didn't know Adam Driver and Matt Damon were in it. i only watched it for Jodie Comer <3

also watched CODA as i got a 3 month apple tv+ trial because i had to get my ipad replaced and apple considered it a new device lol so yey. i really liked it and i think it done a good job showing the struggles of deaf people. loved it!

if anyone has recommendations of movies to watch that are exclusive to Apple TV+ then let me know the only other thing i want to watch are tv shows like Ted Lasso + Severance. i've only watched the first episode of each show because they are free.

next movie is Barbarian. I'll watch that tonight or tomorrow morning.

Oh yeah. And I guess that's why I was somewhat surprised when I first read that he was going to be Dr. Strange. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he does it great (haven't seen any of those movies yet), but it seemed somewhat out of his wheelhouse.

Lately I have been watching movies from my blu-ray shelf in order, while also watching all the extra material. The last film was Gladiator. I have seen it before, but I don't think I have seen any of the extra material it has. And boy does it have some. Two commentary tracks, and and a making of documentary longer than even the extended cut of the film, and then some. Good film though.

watched Barbarian this morning.

i enjoyed it but i'm glad i didn't make a day out of it by going to the cinema to see it.

without spoiling it, because you should definitely go in blind, i'll just say that i loved the build up but felt like it fell flat at the end.

the scene where she ripped the homeless guys arm off and beat him up with it was hilarious

also, the death scene of the rapist dude was well done. i've saw loads of movies where someone puts their thumb in their eyes but seeing the long nails go in, and his mushy eyeball dripping out, and his head being ripped in half was excellent.

Captain Fantastic (shitastic)

Seemed like they were (in an ultra-lazy way) lifting from The Mosquito Coast (Harrison Ford). Whoo boy, my affection for Viggo dropped quite a few notches. Maybe he overspent his allowance on cocaine and needed to make a few extra bucks. Frank Langella is great as always, but can't save this silliness. Don't think there was any message here other than "we have an important message, now pay us for it."

last night watched Nosferatu (1922). been meaning to watch it for a long time because it's considered a classic horror movie and last night was finally the night! being halloween was a coincidence! i think that has to be the oldest film i've ever watched. definitely never watched a silent film before. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. i mean i didn't think it'd be BAD but for a 100 year old movie i mean it was gonna be somewhat rough. i rented it on Amazon and it was a version where it uses the original names from the book (dracula, jonathon, etc). the score was awful and it didn't really fit the movie. i was expecting something more creepy. i didn't realise there were difference versions until afterwards. there is one with tinted scenes which sounds cool. if there is a version that is tinted, has a creepier score, the dude is called Orlok, and the image is cleaned up then i might give it another watch. the version i saw looked like it was being played on film and someone just saw a camera infront of it to digitise it lol.

today i watched A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. i had no idea what it was about and apparently it was inspired by Nosferatu. the fact i watched Nosferatu before it is another coincidence!

with that, i'm taking a break from watching movies. watched a lot over the last week. will start building a new watchlist soon

watched halloween ends earlier. I thought it was for the most part meh. I got kind of interested in it after watching Tyrone Magnus review of it. I'm starting to get the feeling that he is really very forgiving of movies lately. I did enjoy some of the kills but the movie just seemed off to me. Last movie he is a supernatural creature and in this one he is just a man in a mask. I'd give the movie a rating of C-. If your a fan of the series which I'm not go ahead and watch the movie just to continue the storyline. I also kind of feel like this movie wasn't as scary as the last one. Which is great cause I'm not good with horror movies honestly. I love gory kills in movies but I hate being scared.

I just finished the School for Good and Evil. Honestly was quite enjoyable. Kinda shocked that it was. I enjoyed the characters and the slight twists. The music they picked for the movie fit quite well and I enjoyed some of the Disney kid type action. I do feel like a musical would have fit this movie as well. I think my only grip with the movie is the evil-ish female main character. I thought her acting was pretty good, but she was so tiny in comparison to nearly everyone else especially the main lead that she didn't seem to fit in. I'm looking forward to the possible sequel and I hope that they go even crazier in the story. I'd give the movie a rating of B. Although i did enjoy the movie it didn't quite do anything great. If felt like a combination of a "B' movie version of Harry Potter and a slightly more mature looking version of that Disney Descendants show.

Just watched Blade of the 47 Ronin. I feel conflicted about this movie. Like, I like the movie. I also feel like it was a terrible movie. It pretty much reminds me of the old Steven Seagal movies. They were terrible but enjoyable movies for me. The action was okay at times and they had a lot of blood even though I think they messed up with the cg blood since some of it was green in the beginning of the movie. I thought they were fighting like some vampire or aliens at first when I saw it but then saw red blood gushing out of a different character a couple of seconds later. I was actually shocked at how much blood they had in the movie. I thought it would have been used sparingly but I'm glad that they had it since they were mostly killing with swords.

The acting was meh, the characters were cringy half the time, and I don't remember hearing the music outside of one rap song. I'd give this movie a rating of C. The story and action was entertaining but it was still pretty bad.

Now I do think they could have made this a bit more memorable if the characters were actually even more over the top. More interesting kills would have been nice and more mystical abilities. Plus go crazy with the music. This movie was something you never could have made seriously so have fun with the characters and action.

I came out with a bit of mixed feelings. While the film had a great final act, it did not advance quickly enough in the middle and felt slow. There's also a lot of extra material on thr blu-ray, so I'll watch those next. Hopefully they'll offer more insight into the film. It was fine, but certainly won't become my favorite.

That was the one that gave Brad Pitt his start. I thought his acting was surprisingly exceptional the first time I saw it when it came out, and I had hoped he would have some success. Boy, am I sorry.

Watched Creatures of the The Mist. It is a combination of Mist plus Chinese fantasy. A pretty cheap movie. The majority of it is in 2 rooms. I'd give the movie a rating of D+. The movie was watchable but just seemed like a cheap tv movie that you can watch once and forget.

Just finished A Christmas Story Christmas.

Definitely not as clever or witty as the original (which isn't surprising because the original was written and narrated by a legendary humorist). But it definitely has some good moments. Ralphy's actor still can pull off the charm. Best parts are with the bully from the original.

Definitely suffers from not having Darren McGavin, but the whole movie is basically a tribute to him so at least he's respected.

7/10.

Wakanda Forever: The film has heart, and the cast gives it their all. Too much pulling at your heart strings, however, to the point that it felt quite cringy at times; The guy playing Namor did a brilliant job, no doubt, helped by some solid writing for his arc. Visually ok, with good special effects, but not that big of a fan of the cinematography. Hated the last battle, which looks and unfolds like every goddamn Marvel/Superhero movie under the sun (talking about the fight taking place on top of the Wakandan ship; The duel was fine, imo). The music, I found to be too intrusive, just like the forced humour...
All in all, an enjoyable moment. Superior to the original Black Panther, and much, much better than the horrifyingly bad Black Adam.

Yeah, I seem to go back to Arrival every now and again myself. There's something about it, some hidden ingredient that I don't quite get, but it speaks to me in some meaningful way.
