If Jim Stearling likes a game in excited about: awesome! He's one of the best reviewers out there!
If he doesn't like a game I'm excited about: God, he's jaded...
He confirms what I feared when I saw all of the early streaming videos. None of this looks particularly interesting, even if you get past the very, very rough graphics.

Tons of positive reviews, and you come away with that ... Ever heard of confirmation bias? The fact is, you decided what you would think about the game before it released, now you are seeking out sources to confirm your beliefs -- all with never having played the game.
He's jaded as much as he is passionate about what he is excited for. His opinions don't ever come into play when deciding to purchase a game.If Jim Stearling likes a game in excited about: awesome! He's one of the best reviewers out there!

Proooooobably gonna pick this up for PC Friday.
Summary: He is surprised it is a survival game, and wasn't expecting that.

That's a good summary if you didn't read past the first few paragraphs. For the people who are gonna react to your post specifically instead of reading the impressions.Summary: He is surprised it is a survival game, and wasn't expecting that.
The biggest shift in expectations I’ve had to get used to in No Man’s Sky is simply regarding what genre it slots into. In the initial heady trailers and demos that I saw, my mind went wild imagining the joy of simply exploring a universe — wandering around, flying from planet to planet without a care and so on. I didn’t follow interviews with Hello Games closely, because I didn’t want to spoil much, but this was the tone the game seemed to be giving off in the little I did see.

Surprised you didn't bring up his COD: MW3 or Mario Kart 8 review. That's the go to pair if you want to dismiss his opinion.no it's just that his opinion doesn't hold much weight for me, it's all over the place. he likes destiny warriors, which I like also, but then he "doesn't get" EDF
also I never once said he's one of the best reviewers... far from it.
Summary: He is surprised it is a survival game, and wasn't expecting that.
fixed link for this, sorry about that!
If you read the piece, I specifically talk about how I didn't take in too much about the game beyond its announcement so I could go in relatively fresh. It wasn't what I expected from what was shown when announced and at E3. Not being what I expected isn't bad, however! I'm still adjusting to it.
Fair enough then if you were mostly on blackout.fixed link for this, sorry about that!

I've tried asking this a few times and nobody has answered it, how is the aiming int his game?
Is it like Destiny? Smooth and easy? Or is it like Killzone 2 was on PS3, aka slow and super delayed, like you're aiming on ice?
I am extremely worried that it's the latter.
Did you even read it lol
Pretty sure the point is to not try to summarize reviews with one sentence as a sort of gotcha. Especially if that one sentence doesn't include some incredibly pertinent context, like the reviewer going in blind. When you leave out context you discourage people from actually reading the review and instead encourage them to respond specifically to your post with a "lol," "wow," or "really?"Lol, Did you? I read the whole thing. The title was about how the game wasn't what he was expecting, he thought it was an exploration game where you could aimlessly go where you want and do what you want, but in the end, this is a survival game.
That was a Summary, yes. And the reasons he wasn't expecting that, was because he said he didn't follow the game or interviews much before release.
What am I missing really? The title was about This Wasn't The Game I was Expecting, and the reason was he was expecting a little more than a survival game, maybe more freedom. So as a Summary, I think that sums it up.
