No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

What's wrong with the framerate in it? Seen TB complaining about it but he's the definition of a PC master race guy so wouldn't be surprised if it was a smooth 30.

As per DF's analysis, there are big drops when boosting, but other than that the framerate is generally a solid 30fps.

I was surprised by how well the 'line of sight' system worked, actually. Like one time I tried busting into a factory and got blindsided by two sentinels, and another two were passing by and joined in. I ran around behind the factory and lost them, then sprinted into a cave just as they hovered over the top of the factory and saw me again. I ran deeper into the cave and could hear them buzzing into the entrance looking for me, scanning around, while I cowered behind oxide columns and ducked into corners. They stood down after a minute or so but it was a pretty intense 'War of the Worlds' sort of encounter.

There are other dangers too, space pirates occasionally appear, announcing their arrival in a hail of laser-fire. If you destroy anything or kill too many of the indigenous creatures while planetside, you’ll get a GTA-style wanted level and tiny floating robots will engage you in battle, also communicating in little red hot flashes of death.

Avoid using it until you finish the tutorial - https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4wv1ac/the_pre_order_ship_is_a_huge_problem/

I wish I would have known this sooner. :(

Can't you just redeem the code but simply not download the content and then download the content after you complete the tutorial or whatever.

The add-on should be separate from the game install itself so you can have the best of both worlds in this case of still keeping the pre-order bonus and simply not activating the content until you actually want to use it.

Is anyone else struggling to find fauna on the planets? I've spent between 6-12 hours on a planet alone, but I just can't find the last species from the ???????? list.

I've spotted some flying birds/bats/butterlies, but I'm unable to scan them. They do have a red dot on them when looked at through the scanner.

Finding animals seems to be pretty difficult overall.

All they showed was sentinels aggroing you and the player blowing them up. Didn't show 'alert' sentinels or the fact that you could use stealth to evade/lose them.

I think the 'walker' sentinels come at 'wanted level 3' so I'm sure there's even more we haven't seen at 'wanted level 4' and 5'.
Ehh. Most times they are dumb as piss but every so often they exude that "the AI always knows where you are" business.

I had a 2 star wanted level. Decided to use line of sight to hide, dropped down a cliff, went around a corner, and hid inside a small cave behind a shitload of thick stalagmites.

They found me and shot at me through the stalagmites.

I was able to gain enough distance from them to get away using that great move with jetpack boosting (while moving forward, melee attack (R1) and immediately use your jetpack to get a pretty crazy speed boost).

with the digital version it gets installed automatically afaik.

Keep travelling.

It's a dice roll (due to the nature of the game) but it's amazing when you come across a cool animal. One time I didn't see any animals on a planet then came upon a plain with like 6 different species roaming around, one of whom was a predator and was chasing others.

Was incredible.

Hmm yeah I can imagine the experience won't be consistent at all. My next encounter with them could easily be a shitshow like that.

Nature of the game, I guess.

lol i cant leave the first planet its insane to thing there are 18 trill of these just amazing...
slowly but surely getting more ugrades...
once i found my first pod upgrade ive just been fly over looking for them.

one thing that suuucccks though is i wish i could see more in the ship and and i wish i could control the speed more.

First minutes are the best. I'm on a toxic planet, stranded, high sentinels presence, I need resources but these weird floating robots are stalking me. I run, I shoot, i find myself digging a hole in a rock to catch some breath and avoid the acid rain, refilling the hazard protection in the process.
Everything goes dark, it's night. I hear them floating around, strange noises. Step after step, I gather some elements and run, avoiding laser beams and landing hard on my head. My ship is not too far, I can almost see it, but out of nowhere predators attack me; they hit me, I kill them. I'm hurt, but a plant restore my health. I'm on my ship now, I don't know what's next, but I can't wait to see it.

Amazing.

Someone please tell me beautiful worlds, with green grass hills and blue oceans are out there.

I'm tired of the mountainous, deserted and toxic wastelands I keep landing on

found a sea planet that had bases on the bottom of the ocean all taken over by seaplants and stuff

whaaaaaaaaaat

yesssssssss

caves are amazing in this game - not as scary as Minecraft's, but so exciting and mysterious. The best 'this is an alien planet' vibe in the entire game.

Should I just wait to redeem the code until after I finish the tutorial to avoid the pop-up?

2 hours until BestBuy opens.
Redeem the code after you warp out of your initial star system.

Use up as much active fuel as possible in your ship (keep fuel reserves in your inventory)

Then press Start --> Go to the Options menu --> Redeem downloadable content

They are, man. Don't worry :)

I didn't think the game could generate forests until I landed on a wintry forest planet yesterday.

Literally trees as far as the eye could see. Patches of grass among the snow. Beautiful caves and evergreen glades.

It was awesome.

Played two hours last night, game is awesome. I love my cold as fuck starter planet. Plenty of mountains, caves, trees and little neutral animals.

Do we know what time the game unlocks on Steam on friday? And can you jump out of your spaceship in space and float around or jump on asteroids?

And can you jump out of your spaceship in space and float around or jump on asteroids?

No :( one of my two or three bugbears with the game.

They probably left it out because it would be boring and rubbish, but it still would have been cool to have the freedom.

I also wish they wouldn't auto-dock you with space stations. That's really annoying. Docking is one of the most satisfying things. This is like the opposite of Elite, but in a bad way.

Do we know what time the game unlocks on Steam on friday?

The source code of the AU Steam page says 1am:

var oDate = new Date( "Sat, 13 Aug 2016 01:00:00 +0800" );

Edit: The US and UK pages say the same thing. The base time seems to be UTC+9 as the page for the upcoming Superfight DLC states that the content unlocks in two hours, which the source code says corresponds to 23:00 (11pm). So, theoretically, the PC version should unlock in:

Neither of you have played the game.

It has a story. A directed, point-to-point adventure. If you get bored of the survival stuff, tracking down the story content is really compelling and opens up sets of new mechanics/systems. This isn't like Minecraft or DayZ where all you do is survive and travel forever. There is an actual progression here.

Honestly there are about five things that Hello Games could tell people about that would sell them immediately.
This is what's driving me nuts about these threads. People who have not played one second completely crapping on the game. I've wavered back and forth the past few days about whether or not to buy based on streams, the recent vid reviews, etc, but in no way can I say for certain whether or not id like it based on them. Just gonna have to buy it and find out for myself.

please elaborate on these "mechanics/systems" because there has been no evidence of any more game mechanics or systems being in place than what we have already seen.
Dude this is like the second or third time you've made this comment when you obviously don't have the game. You're basing this on what then? Stop already.

It's really infuriating. Obviously some won't like the game, and that's fine, but 1. Watching the game is not the same as playing the game, so you can't soundly form an opinion based on that, and 2. the game has tens, possibly hundreds of hours of unique content (I mean handcrafted, not the procedural generation/exploration), and there's no 'checklist' showing you everything that you can do or everything in it - so watching a video for 30 minutes might reveal 20% of the game to you, or it might reveal 0.1% of the game to you.

It's just so naiive

Yeah I sprint a lot but it wears out pretty fast. It's not that big of a deal, just wish the walking speed was a bit quicker.

Fair play man. It would be good to have an upgrade for faster walking I reckon.

check it out ! pretty nice planet and the sea looks pretty

Awesome. I really want to find out what the deal is with those
fungal growths.

Dude, it's 5 AM. Jesus.

I went nuts exploring my starter planet. It was awesome. Most of it on foot, too. I think I left there with like 40 words of the Gek language learned. That's definitely been the most interesting stuff to find for me, all the weird ruins, monoliths and plaques that have weird Gek lore tidbits to experience.

Now I'm docked in a sweet ass space station that looks like a 20-sided die after exploring a bit of the nearest planet to where I started, and traded my stupid looking pre-order bonus ship for this sweet looking white ship that has 3 more inventory slots. Boosted my exosuit up to 22 slots, and rocking this weird rifle-ish multi-tool that shoots grenades. Trying to find some more materials so I can upgrade the boltcaster with this shotgun style upgrade. Also found some kind of railgun mode for the mining beam which sounded kind of neat, but I dunno how you'd mine if you convert the beam into a weapon. I guess just blowing stuff up.

Anyone found a way to acquire a rank 1 AtlasPass yet?

Pro tip for some:

If you guys don't like Sprint being on R3. You can switch the controls with the PS4 OS. It is also very easy to deactivate when playing other games.

So I'm not too worried about the content and what you do (it's what I expect it to be) but I want to ask for those playing it and now that you've got a chance to play it, how is the sound ?

For example one of the reasons I love Far Cry 2 (with like 200 - 300 hrs in that) is just the walking about with the environmental noises, the different weather etc and that's a game a lot of folks thought was boring too. It's something I always felt the sequels didn't do as well too.

Are the environmental sounds good, different weather variations, music etc ? For example will you see an environment differ between nighttime and daytime with the sounds changing with that ? I can see this kind of thing immersing me bigtime especially if those kind of things are well done.

Is there some sort of group nuking it or something ? Seems to be a pretty even distribution of "found this helpful" numbers lol.
Seems like brigading from either the MRA or Alt-Right (read: white nationalist) sections of reddit based on all the mentions of reddit in the reviews and the fact that both groups largely intersect and both think that cuck is an actual word that needs to be said often. Guess it could also be one of the chans.

Who cares.

The planets are indeed massive

On my starter planet I literally had to walk 10 minutes to find one of the elements I needed to repair my ship...when a waypoint appears and it tells you it would take you 10 minutes to reach it...it literally is 10 real life minutes.

Same thing with distance amongst planets...when the way point says it would take you 15 minutes to get there they really do mean 15 minutes. Thank God for warp speed

Has anyone found these
gravity balls
yet? You take one and the sentinels come after you. I filled my ship up with them and when I took off they sent a fleet after me. Cool items but they arent worth that much. Like 27,000 units.

Please don't listen to Tb. If something isn't 60fps, he vomits uncontrollably.

I don't really tend to, he usually just spews BS.

As per DF's analysis, there are big drops when boosting, but other than that the framerate is generally a solid 30fps.

That's good. Seems like something that can be ironed out and not too troublesome.

As a console player that just built a $1500 gaming PC, the struggle to wait is real.

I couldn't wait. Will be double dipping for that Platinum trophy and then PC for the modding.

So I decided to get the PS4 version and might double dip on PC version .
I have not played yet (got 8 long hours of work before being able to play -_-).

So far the game seems to be exactly what I thought it would be according to people impressions.
It's an exploration game with survival elements and People that were expecting way more are disappointed .

As for me, I can't wait to play it because that's what I want, explore planets and fly/fight in a space ship do some trade and mine and craft to upgrade my gears .

There seem to be crashing issues according to some impressions, though ? I hope this will be fixed .

It's amazing. I'm not sure about environmental sounds, but animals and plants make unique sounds which are generated based on their size, length of throat, gender, temperament, etc - and the sounds are weirdly unique and weirdly realistic. Just standing still on a planet and listening to weird woops and shrill calls from across the plains is brilliant.

The music is also procedural and matches the 'tone' of what you're doing really, really well. Some of it is excellent, some of it grates a little (rarely though). I wonder how much music they recorded for the game. Must have been hours and hours.

I don't find the game that immersive, but this is one of the more immersive aspects of the game.

Just got an email from the local games place saying that the dutch distributor have mislabelled a bunch of copies intended for UK, France & Switzerland and they're trying to sort this out just now.

By the time I get into space all the planets will have orange tents on them.

Ihr World of Games-Team

Shit man, I found a few of those (on the weekend before I had to delete my save) but there were no sentinels so I just walked away with it.

In fact, the planet I was on had hundreds of them. Literally. As far as the eye could see. I didn't think they were important, but obviously now I know...

There were no sentinels nearby so I had no idea they chase you for that. Sentinels also chase you if you destroy too many plants/resources, so they probably just came after you because picking up one of those counts as 'destroying it'.

Slight tech tree spoiler: IIRC
the graviton balls are used for making FTL/warp tech

That's not the 12th August!

and I started on an acid rain planet with very little atmo. soon as I was out of the ship, it was apparent that I really needed to think about what to do next, no free wandering.

still getting used to the interface, I went and got the base components that were nearby, which was everything except heredium (or whatever it was called). had to make a fraught journey across the landscape of acid rain, taking shelter in scant caves. figured out how to recharge my suit life support using mats from flower like structures. trying to keep focused even though I just wanted to go sight seeing.

A plant bit me. Weird goblins hopped across the landscape muttering darkly.

Had some sentinels eyeballing me after shooting up a rock; I just stopped and stared at the thing and scanned it back. It gave me no grief but I knew I was being watched.

got things repaired and was on my way. neat start. came across the boost melee thing by accident too, just messing around outside.

by the way tip about the Alpha Vector preorder ship – just say Accept, after you open the screen from the Redeem option in the Options menu. You'll get a trade screen but it doesn't really matter at this point, you can't swap anything (a bit confusing) but Accept the ship and that will become your new ship. It's appreciably better than the starting one, has a warp drive, and looks like an old Cylon interceptor which is dope. It's not too OP though as you still have to repair the booster I think (I did anyways).
