Thanks for the shit post drive by

For a game that's apparently going to be having features patched in, the response in your gif still holds true, and always will. I don't know why you would use it to make a point.

These developers are some fools. All they have to do is provide a straight forward answer, but they're trying to keep a product that consumers want to know about shrouded in some bullshit mystery.

Honestly, this will hurt their reputation for some time.

Maybe, just maybe, it's busted and they're trying to figure it out before saying anything definitive. Or maybe the thing about multiple dimensions and black holes could be true - it's sci-fi after all - and personally, I wouldn't want that feature spoiled for me and would rather stumble upon it myself.

Except every interview Sean gave said it uses maths in an algorithm to generate the planets as you move, it doesn't actually store the planets anywhere. He joked about releasing the game of a floppy disc. So this can't be the reasoning unless I'm missing something.

Edit: by metadata do you mean like discoveries? I'm this case then you still wouldn't need that much storage because with 18 quintillion planets you're never going to come close to having metadata for a small fraction of them.

That's not really how the game works, but the dictionary for discovered planets, species, plants, etc. are definitely stored somewhere. That dictionary will grow as things are discovered and renamed. Even just with text strings, with the sheer number of things that can be named and stored, it's going to grow pretty large. And if theoretically everything in the game got named, it would grow impossibly large... but that's not realistic with how long it would take even 100 million players to name things.

They have indeed found each other according to their reddit. It seems like it does work, simply not all the time.

All those arguments/gifs/character-attacks were now for naught

please do not spread misinformation.

they have FOUND each other as in they are both in the same system.

there has been NO meeting. there has been NO visual sighting of each other.
NO interaction with the environment.

they have NOT "met". it is bad wording on their part.

There is literally a stream happening RIGHT NOW where they again failed to see each other

How is that a valid response? They have been incredibly vague or out right lying about this stuff. Theres been no statement about this being added later on.

If someone asks you a question about a product you are releasing, you don't lie or make up something that is not the reality of the problem.

This is simply deception.

My crow is ready. Now I only need the receipts.
Even if they were to find each other in game, all of this could be avoided by transparent communication between journalists and fans of the game.

Curious to see if this is true, because if it is, why would they be so cagey and vague in responding to people's confusion? If the servers are getting hammered and that's hampering players' ability to meet and interact with each other, why not just say that? Seems like the community would be way more understanding and accepting of that than to just sort of ignore it and hope it goes away.

Yeah you're right.

I think the fact that after thousands of posts people are still confused shows that Sean needs to come out with a clear cut answer. Yes or No.

Not a politicians answer.

I agree, if he's being coy to preserve some surprise Easter egg type of interaction, he should just explicitly explain what the multiplayer isn't and then say that there are some features that arent working correctly for the people in the same spot because of server load.

Something like: "in the current build of the game, two players cannot see each other in real time, explore a planet together, or otherwise interact in real-time. We weren't able to get that feature working in time for release.

However, there are some yet-undiscovered surprises for players in the same system that unfortunately are not working correctly because of server load."

I suspect this is close to the actual situation.

It's more about consumers caring about consumers culture.

And Internet culture where it takes less than ONE MINUTE to respond to a question that people are asking.

I know some of you guys care more about the corporations and game devs more than your fellow gamers, but not all of us will make excuses.

Oh, we are playing this game are we?

How about it is a lot of fanaticism from both camps, as well as people disinterested and looking for any little thing to hang a game out with a 'gotcha' moment because they are 'too hip for hype', and the like?

You act as if this whole thread and all of the comments are people looking out for the 'well being' of others.

Fuck that noise, lol.

Read my posts, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt because I have been gaming for over 30 years, and not so quick to knee jerk with 'LIAR', based of some of the shittiest 'facts' of testing (due to the servers being beat down) I have seen used as concrete evidence in some time to disprove something that can purely be subjective opinions on interview quips.

Again, I still do not think it is a 'same place same time' thing, since there were the mentions in interviews of 'LOST', etc..

But go on, let us pretend that taking a 'wait and see' approach (which I am doing) after less than 24 hours is 'corporate loving' (is HG's even a corporation?), and the pitchforks/memes are 'consumer watchdogs' looking out for our 'best interests'... rather their own self gratification to throw shade.

Nobody has confirmed yet if the two streamers are even playing on the same server or region?

We know the PC and PS4 are on different servers. But is each region in the world ALSO on different servers?

Like NA, EU, UK, CA, servers? Did Sean ever say if the PS4 players all over the world are playing on the exact same PS4 server together? Or if they are sharded up into regional servers?

Because, wouldn't that explain why they couldn't see each other, if these two guys are actually in different regions on different servers??????????

Someone should probably get that clarified before we continue this thread lol

It sure would be nice of Hello Games would clarify anything about the MP system.

Stickers are on the Spanish limited edition covering the online symbol. With this and how reluctant the creator is to answer the question, I think there were plans for online interaction at one point, but they weren't implemented.
Stickers are on my UK limited edition copy too. Exact same ones.

If you're on opposite sides of a room that's the size of a small country with another individual, and somebody asks you if you will be able to play together, how would you answer? It's yes and no with a huge "but" to either answer.

This whole thing is intensely dumb.

One on hand, you've got the creators who seem totally oblivious to these concerns.

On the other, you've got a thread full of people with very little information slinging claims and making judgments, but apparently doing nothing to prove anything themselves, just relying on reddit and streamers to somehow connect the dots.

This is an all around mess.

You're right, sorry. Some people who had no clear interest in the game would be just here just for the shitstorm itself.

But some of us, just want an answer. And as a dev of a newly released game, would you not be checking your twitter the day of release?

I'll definitely be more patient but if we don't get a clear answer by the PC's release, I personally don't think I could support a company like that.

It was a selling point to see other people? Where? I mean, he said you'd likely never see anyone, so yeah, the thought was there that you could potentially see someone, but did anyone buy the game thinking they were going to see like 60 people in their playtime just running around a galaxy with seemingly infinite planets?

Getting a definitive answer is needed, for sure, but I guess I never saw multiplayer as any kind of selling point, given all the videos and demos they did prior to launch.

I would wager that the majority of people aren't going to have had followed the game religiously. Even on here there are many that knew what Sean had said about multiplayer that weren't following the game closely at all because the platforms which he spoke of them from where so far reaching. I think that late night interview on top of the one with geof where probably the farthest. And yes, coming from a business owner, every thing that you say about your product is a selling point whether or not it is the core of the product. Heck, for some people even our containers are a selling point and not just the "core" or what's in them.

I saw Sean Murray at a grocery store in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him about No Man's Sky or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I would like an answer too, and I expect there to be one.

This makes no sense? Was there some indication the other player was there (button prompts?) or is he just saying they net because they're in the same place?

Well, he would have never met that other person (IRL) if he did not see the uploaded discoveries. ;p
