Couple star systems in and haven't found a way to create or find those atlas pass/keys. Did I miss a blueprint for this somehow? I remember there was that locked case near your broken ship when you start but I just created my hyperdrive and dipped out.

No. That's part of the Atlas path.

Atlas Interface
Anyone following the paths to the Atlas Interfaces? I made it to the first one, then they set up a waypoint to the next one that is about 8 jumps away. Is it worth chasing these down? They seem to be moving away from the center of the universe.

I've done about
4 of them and they're still going, similar distances between them all. I have the ability to make warp fuel easily though so it's been a breeze for me to get to them all.
.

Is it worth it? Unsure
you do learn words, technologies, and sometimes get atlas orbs that sell for a bit, but the plot at this point seems to be pushing the idea that maybe I'm wasting my time so who knows if it's worth it.

That sucks.

Also, trying to Google an answer has led to the scary discovery that many people think that day and night are caused by the Earth rotating around the sun. Sean help us all.

Wow... Just... I bet those same people earn more than I do as well. Lol!

I assume the game does it the right way, but don't know for sure.

Enjoying the game so far but yeah that's pretty disappointing. I hope there's an answer to why it was axed.

Yeah, they didn't seem happy about it in the patch notes, lol. People were wondering why waypoints were moving away and stuff.

Just imagine you're in geosynchronous orbit ;)

Crashes everytime at the same spot? I'm getting a crash every 20 mins or so, just went for dinner, left it looking at a tree and came back and it had crashed back to XMB. Hope it's patched soon.

yes. When I reach the system with the annomaly (which I assume is the first Atlas station). 5 crashes out of 5 tries, ill try again later in the week then bring it back to EB games.

So my ship randomly undocked itself and is now suspended several hundred feet above a settlement. Using the terminal to recall my ship didn't work, and it's too high to jetpack to. Anything other ideas?

Edit: It finally came back on the fourth recall. Weird bug.

Nope, game has no rotation for planets. The day/night cycle is, bizarrely, in effect the sun rotation around all the planets, which remain fixed.

I am absolutely loving the game so far, but keep having difficulty finding creatures on planets with life. Outside of using the scanner to locate the ones you don't have, are there any tricks to tracking them down? Or is it literally just wander around and hope for the best?

I mentioned above, but make sure to scan your systems. The game will naturally lead you to an Atlas station and that will lead you somewhere else, and that will get you the blueprint for a V1. It took me about 4 or 5 systems before I got one.

I can't stress the importance of scanning when you arrive in a new system.

One of the better, more mechanically sound moments was watching a bunch of ships circle over an area in the distance. I took the trek and found a station because of that.

See, that works great. It's a cool thing that the game does to let the player know that there's a station nearby. It's easily spottable from the distance, too, so you know where to head.

do planets have different lengths of day/night cycles?

It might be they axed it because the planet rotation was messing up stuff on the planet. I'm curious once the PC version is out and people start digging in the files if it can be enabled. I'm sure it was in the game at some point (but removed later which is what I assume)

They come with time. I just got it, and I've probably played 15 hours

How are you all finding you do the most exploring? On foot or in your ship? I've found that I just kind of fly from point to point, worried to leave my ship behind, but I feel like that's not a good way to do it.

Ohh, well, thanks for the clarification. Probably easier to do it that was in a game than all the calculations to do it the other way.

Re-post:

I'm finding the upgrade system confusing now I'm going deeper into it.

If something has a red outline does that mean the upgrade/technology isn't active?

Edit: aha, or does the colour just indicate which systems are linked and providing buffs?

Find beacons on the planet, those usually will point you to advance life on the planet. I ran into this twice so far searching around for a form of life and when I located a beacon, it set a marker on the radar.

I fly to a general spot and never go past maybe three minutes of my ship to do anything. That way, I can get back quickly without getting burnt.

I think I'm fucked. I dove down onto a planet after getting chased by space pirates and ended up distracted by some cool stuff down there, including finding a crashed ship that was much better than my own. I transfer all my things over to it thinking I have everything to repair it with and then it comes down to zinc. No zinc. This planet is a barren mess. I cannot find zinc anywhere. I lost my other ship in this process (it actually looks to have despawned since I last loaded into the game). What am I going to do...? I cannot find zinc anywhere. There are no plants with zinc, no animals on this planet to help me find zinc, and I have yet to see any outposts or trading posts to find a terminal. What the hell should I do? My two most recent saves are both me stuck with this broken ship.

Have to study it more but while the planet day/night cycle works pretty well, I don't really get the sense that the orbits themselves are happening/realistic.

I've only been to a few systems but seems like the planets are conveniently clustered close to each other relative to the closest star, and their positioning doesn't change much.
Yeah I was wondering about that as well. Will investigate more :)

Not sure. If they do, they simply speed up the rotation of the skybox, which is the same for all planets.

Yeah perhaps it's too expensive to calculate.
I dont understand this. It's the suns that go arround the planets? In every system?
Yup. If the planets rotated, you'd see the other planets in the system rise and fall over the horizon as well. I never expected planets to orbit stars, as this would make them impossibly far away from each other, but no rotation irritates me (but I can get over it).

I'm usually no longer than 2-3 "minutes" away from my ship. Crashing is a pretty real threat, so I make a point to save often, now. Btw, melee boosting makes running around incredibly much faster.

Run, melee, immediately jump and glide. Insane speed.

Reload save? Does that work or does the game save on landing?

It's all part of the fun!

I get to a beacon where i need 4 bypass chips to get all the info out. I only have one slot free so i have to enter the inventory, build a chip, exit inventory, acces beacon, use chip. Repeat x4. How hard would it be to stack at least 4 of them up? Never mind the fact that there could be an option to use 4 bypass chips at once and get all markers in one go. But hey better to annoy the player and waste his time instead.

Makes you wonder how much they tested their own game.

What do you need Zinc for?

Find a beacon, try for outpost?

The fact that small inventory objects like chips and alien artifacts can't be stacked is infuriating. And also upgrades that take over one spot.

Why the fuck do we still get this limited inventory bullshit in 2016?

Your Exosuit can be upgraded which gives you more inventory slots, You can get new ships which gives you more inventory slots. Same with your multi-tool.

Sure it's difficult when you first start out, but after awhile you'll have enough inventory space to accommodate a good amount of items as well as technology add-ons.

It depends for me. If my life support and exosuit dont drain too fast, I'll go on foot. I found this planet yesterday where the toxicity was nuts. You couldnt last more than a minute or 2 outside. I couldnt think of a proper name for the planet so I just named it Toxic AF. Planets like that I wont stray far from my ship. Otherwise I will trek on foot if its a nice planet.

I reckon this will get sorted out very quickly, a lot of people have really valid gripes about the inventory system and it won't hurt the game for them to be changed. Maybe this is what the base building and freighter ships will be about, storage etc.

I need zinc to repair the pulse engine. What is kinda shitty is that I have my launch thruster repaired but it won't let you lift off without repairing your pulse engine too. Doesn't really make sense. I did find one beacon but it sent me to an outpost with only a blueprint. No terminal.

This isn't a hoarders game, and I really like it. The game would be void of challenge if you could stack everything. Bypass chips, sure I get that. However, limited inventory is a core part of this experience. If I could hoard elements, I could farm for an hour then never have to worry about warp cores ever again.

Enjoying the came but really not a fan of the ridiculously low FOV and the looking around controls. The acceleration curve on the looking is terrible. And if it detects any vertical movement, it slows the horizontal spin. It's so crappy. It's really easy to get lost because the damn screen is zoomed in so much.

If I wander off into the horizon on foot and can't find a base anywhere, how do I get my ship back? Or is it pretty much a "don't do that" sort of thing?

It keeps two most recent saves as far as I'm aware of, and both of those are from me finding waypoints while looking everywhere for this damn zinc.

But maybe one of those will have the ship that worked where it was before it de-spawned. I was under the impression your ships stay wherever they were parked even if you had to fly back to it on a space station or whatever.

the scanners you find at waypoints that require bypass chips to scan for things. can you just keep scanning or do they eventually find everything?

I found out last night by the way, that if you go to a completely vertical surface and hold the jetpack, you "climb" without the jetpack running out of fuel.

The game even says that so it's intended.

Might be useful for those thinking they're stuck in a jam.
Everyone listen to this ^^ I parked my brand new ship on top of a really tall cylindrical plateau, with no way up. Then by chance I went right next to the side of it and jetpack straight up the side when I had no business climbing up it. That's the kind of QoL thing that makes this game awesome.
