A polite discourse amongst friends on the importance of MP-elements in No Man's Sky

wait so do we know what we look like?
Maybe we're fifth dimensional people who can't be on the same plane of existence like in Interstellar.

I went back 10 pages and not even the damn villagers from Bloodborne went this mad.

So my guess is that players can in fact see each other, we look like crakachu and the haters left leaving the victors to literally be driven insane as crakachu is only what our minds can comprehend and what we really saw was the face of god

People are jumping in hyper-drive to conclusions about the advertising of the game being devious and the team or the man (Sean) was ill intended.

That may be, but that is what is going to happen when you don't clear things up. It would be super simple for them to clear this up with a simple yes or no. They know this and I can't imagine they didn't see this coming. So if the feature really is something they wanted to be a surprise they had to be ready for this and ready to weather it. Time will tell either way. Thing is that if the feature isn't there now in any form then saying it sooner is only a good thing.

I don't get it...I've been following the game for years, watching Twitch streams and other vids, it's exactly what I thought it would be. I don't get why people assume it was going to be anything else, lol.

With that being said I fucking love it.

This must be what encountering chtulu is like.

This thread is...nonsense. Just mad scribblings, I can't even tell if this nonsense is from the people complaining or the people defending anymore.

100% agree with you. My job is done. Maybe I want to believe that a small Indie dev team is not shady like other developers and publishers, but again I might be wrong, very wrong. Time, the ultimate true teller.

Also NMS is actually good
People keep repeating this. Why? Because no one ever said the game is crap or something (well, except for the glorious "duckshit" guy).

This is about features that were advertised in several interviews - both print and video - but apparently are not in the final game and they didn't feel the need to inform anyone about this. For some people these supposedly minor features are pretty big since for them it diminishes the "other people out there"-feeling that they were hoping for with this game.

This is not me btw. but numerous people in this thread said as much. I simply have a big problem with the communication coming from the devs regarding this issue. I believe they are wilfully spreading obtuse information and flatout misinformation in order to mislead players. Now they are sitting this out through the day one/two sales days without giving a clarifying statement - because that statement could obviously cost them quite a couple of sales and goodwill among the community. I think the radio silence now that they are pressured for a very short answer to a simple question is a pretty shitty course of action.

Only the last ten pages of Pokemon are pure nonsense. Before that, it was actually funny at times.

It only shows that not many ppl really care about a freaking easter egg. This witch hunt after Sean is pure bullying.

So Sean / HG still sleeping 24 hours later? I guess they need their beauty sleep after pushing this game out so quick after countless delays.

The poster I was responding too was using Inafune and Mighty No.9 as a comparison. Development history and quality of the final product aren't really comparable.

I agree that Sean Murray not making an unequivocal statement regarding meeting other players is odd, but there may be restrictions on what he can and can't say at the moment aside from any other reasons. But I also never expected NMS to be multiplayer or have multiplayer elements (nor want them) so the level of vitriol leveled at him over this is very strange to me (and yes I've seen the links)

I don't think it's about the easter egg for the most part that got people up into a bunch (me included).

The thing that matters is whether Sean has been honest with us or not. Yes, sure he did say no multiplayer ( the day before launch) but he has not yet made an official statement whether players can see each other or not. All it takes is one statement yet the entire day, the question was sort of circumvented. It didn't seem like he directly answered the question and I sort of want answers.

If this feature was taken out, sure at least tell us before the PC version goes on sale. There's no need for him to act like this where he's not willing to give a direct answer to a feature he stated would happen in several interviews ( though old, yet he has not stated anything that directly contradicts that there will be no such feature only something that is slightly related [ not a multiplayer game] )

Probably because he only mentioned it wouldn't be multiplayer like just the day before the game launched. You didn't expect it but that doesn't mean people didn't expect to see random strangers on their travels. That was the challenge that was posed by his earlier statements. I mean sure, it's going to be hard but if it does happen, that's awesome. Unfortunately, we are still not sure if the feature is still there or not. There are others expecting this based off of his earlier statements. This is why there has been a lot of ...."critcism" flung at him because they expected something that was stated in earlier interviews and have yet to be denied which others may not have expected ( and they want a simple honest answer ) but there has been none

I'm sorry to be a bit blunt here but just because you and a couple of other posters didn't expect MP features doesn't mean everything is fine. Murray made these statements - many times on many occasions. A portion of players obviously wanted these features and are now pissed. Understandably so.

The "I don't care about MP features so everyone else shouldn't either"-posts are pretty much the equivalent to "I have no bugs"-posts.

The thing is that they sort of had 16 hours to resolve our worries when people were tweeting him. But in that time, all he did was make a few statements that didn't directly confirm or deny anything and there has yet to be another update.
Quite the opposite even: he continued the wilful misinformation with tweets like "Two players have already found each other... mind blown". But then they suddenly go radio silent once the "can we see other players?"-question blows up.

WTF is this? Dev teams work their ass off and a delayed response gets them this shit.

I'm glad I totally missed the interviews where he did confirm this kind of MP, because it doesn't change my view of the game. It does, however, make me question Hello Games. Which is a shame, because this game being made by any team of any size is miraculous.

Unfortunate that it didn't really answer the question and told us basically what some people figured out earlier in the thread before the coming of crackachu

Does anybody really know the answer to the question (other the Sean and the devs?) isn't that what they kind of alluded to. That the tweets sent out have kind of failed to shed any new light on the situation. Have the devs mentioned that two twitch streamers encounter did not go as intended and that once the servers are more stable they should expect to be able to see each other or something along those lines yet?

He has been coy this feature the whole time, they obviously don't want to talk about what it is. Its possible they're actually trying to solve the problem rather than deal with a small vocal minority, some of which are being jerks and don't deserve a response.

I thought the Know would be in the know!
/s

But yes, there haven't been any contacts regarding hello games and Sean who should be the only ones at this point (other than maybe their contacts at Sony) who know what we really want to know?

They deserve every bit of this for lying to consumers to get our money. The fact that they worked their asses off is completely irrelevant when they are sitting on their hands with a proper explanation.

That's the thing. If they're trying to solve the problem, what's the point of being coy and making things worse? Why not come out and say, there was a problem with people meeting each other. We're looking into fixing it. Simple as that

Now I want NMS to have a multiplayer just to encounter the girl in the video.

They said nothing new, tho

i here that ;) Check out the last season of Amazing Race. Pretty sure she came like 3rd or something....but yea not much new insight, can't really blame them though since the devs have decided to leave everybody in the dark

You don't know if they lied. And it is painfully obvious some of you have never been through or even stopped wonder what dev teams do after releasing software.

I didn't say no one else should care, I said my not caring makes it hard to sympathize with the anger.

I don't know why Sean Murray said in the past that you'd be able to meet others when they never showed any MP gameplay and the game currently doesn't have it; maybe it got cut to hit deadlines, maybe they decided they couldn't/shouldn't, we don't know because they're not telling us which is admittedly exacerbating the situation.

They can say 3 things:
A. Only certain people can see each other
B. You should be able to see each other, we are working on fixing the issue
C. You can't see each other

Problem solved

A simple "we know the issue and we're working on it" would have done wonders instead of more fantasy tweeting.

My best guess is that servers can't handle it right now and they figured they were gonna be fine because they assumed that it was really improbable mathwise for two people to meet before the servers had a chance to settle down.

Now that they see that it's not the case they are probably like "Uh...UHHHHHH." Or maybe they did remove it - I don't know. Either way this thread is hilarious.

Why didn't they put out a short tweet "server issues, players can't see each other right now, working on it!" then? That would've cleared everything up within seconds instead of letting the shitstorm happen, videos getting posted on youtube etc.?

I'm sorry but still believing this is all on tech issues and server overload is extremely naive at this point. It's clear they don't have a positive answer to this question. That's all there is to it.

This. Doesn't spoil anything and yet adds more mystery that he wants while answering the question

I know that they still refuse to comment for some reason. It's probably because they didn't lie though... /s

Immediate responses if I had to guess:

"Fixing what!?"
"How will we know its working"

You can never satisfy the internet.

Fixing the problem.
When the next patch comes out.

There. Not spoiling anything. Simple. He had time for 6 tweets. What's wrong with exchanging those 6 for these 2?
