No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I'm done reading the review thread, I think. I have my issues with the game, and I'm a little let down with it (see some of my posts yesterday), but I feel like some of the discussion around reviews is becoming toxic. I think I'm going to limit myself to this thread when I want to talk about the game from now on.

Anyways, I sold 2
Atlas Stones.
and deviated from the path to the next
interface.
Should I go back to it and try to replace those two/get the rest that I need or should I just forge on ahead alone?

I did that a while ago.

The game has a ton of problems, whether or not they significantly affect your enjoyment will vary from person to person.

But I agree that thread is mostly a sea of pessimism and negativity with very little constructive criticism or interesting discussion in general. And as a result people who actually do like the game are going into full attack mode to try and discredit people who don't like it.

This one seems to be a pretty good balance between perspectives, thus far.

I'm really curious to see what HG has planned over the rest of the year, it'd be cool if they had a roadmap but I get the feeling they've been so focused on shipping the game they probably need some time to figure out where they want to take it next.

I said it before but their priority should be fixing the crashing. The amount it's happening to people is the worst I've seen from a retail release this gen and they should not get a pass on it.

Maybe us old guys enjoy NMS more because we used to play games like time pilot and zaxxon.

I loved Time Pilot.

holy shit lolol im fucked im like close to 20 hours played only warp 5 my ocd makes me visit ever planet in that solar system i got like 25+ planets until the second atlas thing lol and your on warp 40

😂

I've warped a 20+ times without doing anything else besides warping.

Where are the black holes at ;_;

For curiosity sake, I bet most people that are enjoying this game are "old". How old are you space cadets?

31 here.
I'm waiting for PC, but I'm 24

As someone who grew up on Star Trek and science fiction, this is a dream game for me. It's not perfect but it's hitting all the right spots so damn well.
Basically. This is "Explore strange new worlds...seek out new life and new civilizations...go where no man has gone before" The Game

In terms of features, things I'd like most right now...
- FOV slider, please please please
- controller remapping. putting sprint and jump on same thumb is awkward. ship controls feel off. i'd like the ability to bank the ship with the DS4 gyro instead of buttons
- star system maps. My starting system has 5 planets and it can get confusing
- rear view while in ships, would help in dogfights
- photo mode with no HUD and popups
- those are all basic, but longer term I'd like more varied and sophisticated creature AI. it's a bit simplistic right now, which makes the creatures feel more alike than they should
- I'd also like to see ship pilots actually walk around in the space station for a better sense of immersion

Yeah I agree with all of these. There should definitely be a star system map. If you have a tiny moon hiding somewhere it can be really hard to find. And sometimes I can't seem to find the space station at all. (Even when I know it's definitely there somewhere)

Also, in the galactic map, can you remove a waypoint? Accidentally made one and now can't seem to get rid of it.

Great game though. And with the support they said they're going to give it, it can only get better. Hours have passed and it felt like mere minutes. (Quite unlike the last three weeks!)

EDIT: 30 here - and yeah loving it (the game not my age)

I am waiting for this to be out on PC but a question...

Do ships have different attributes? Or is it a purely cosmetic choice when buying a new ship.

I've out over 200 hours into Elite Dangerous due to playing and trialling pretty much every ship in the game.
They have different amounts of inventory space, different inventory layouts, and different pre-installed tech which affects their attributes. They can be improved/customized with tech from there and you can dismantle tech they come with if you need to. P

Mostly you'll be buying based on aesthetics to some degree, inventory space, and then what you aim to do with it; I am going pirate-style so I need good weapons and shields, decent inventory space, and can deemphasize hyperdrive for now.

I'm 33 and I think my main problem is i like difficult games. I always play on harder than normal difficulty because I noticed I was having a better time and experiencing more of the mechanics the developers intended.

I'm so conflicted on if I should pick this game up on friday when it comes to steam.

Time for a break and dinner, then I take this stopgap ship for a spin and try to find
Nada
again, then it's upgrade frenzy time.

having a super hard time finding nickel or emeril about 12 jumps in. just can't find it on planets, checked piles of vendors, no luck at all. it's a drag. I really need shields.

also I sold my first 2 Atlas stones and now that I've learned that I will need them they cost 2.7M which is more than any ship in the game, which is fucked.

I've been enjoying the game and the act of discovery + upgrading, but I would totally switch to PC if the port is of good quality.

I truly believe that you're predisposed to dislike it. I don't mean that you're being unfair or too hard on the game. I mean that it seems totally obvious that it's not for you, and if you play it you're just going to be fighting against it the whole time because of the ways it doesn't match up with what you're looking for.

I mean, really, why try to talk yourself into getting it? You can always wait for it to be cheaper if your curiosity is just that strong.

I have to agree. The game really is not hard and any 'struggles' you have will mostly be fighting against some of the games flawed design elements

yeah im sure i was just basically saying since im crazy in the fact i have to visit every planet in every system before i got to the next and you did 40 and your not at the end....
lol this game will take me forever. Kappa

this is fucking incredibly shitty game design ... for ppl like me that explore a lot.... it should have been one of the first recipes you get smfh..........😤

So I created Warp Reactor Sigma for my ship(A companion unit to the Warp Drive). It was worth it. It lets me effortlessly travel over 250 light years at once(Skipping about 4-5 star systems at once). Right now I'm near a black hole, scouring the planets a bit before I jump into it~

I think I've fucked myself over entirely.

So I traveled through a black hole, I was following the Atlas path and I think I want to stick with it, it's a tangible progression that I really need to latch onto, just going towards the center of the galaxy is too intangible at the moment with my current warp core. But now that black hole has spat me out how ever many thousand light years from the next Atlas objective, can I find the black hole in the same system I came through and hop back through it? Or is it only one way?

Do I need to restart the damn game?

Atlas wants me to jump like 12 times to get my key -_-
This is what I get for initially refusing.

Hit double ace, but my game crashed. Feels bad. Just dropped 1.5m on a decent ship. Not a looker, and not a huge fan of the cockpit, but the cargo layout was too good to pass up. Easy access to every system I want to upgrade.

So I have been playing now for a couple of days (5 or so hours) and I am enjoying the vastness of the universe, exploring planets and also mining.

The game is calming and relaxing but once you leave the surface space kinda feels dead. Space stations are empty, big ships spawn in but I've never actually see them do anything. I've been attacked a few times by pirates

Does that change further in?

Oh and the sentinels are a nice touch but damn they can get annoying.

What has me interested is I remember being 13 years old and playing Pilotwings 64 and just flying around back and forth over little america in the gyrocopter for hours exploring and being amazed by the freedom the game gave you.

Also I think of being a big fan of games that put you in a bad situation and make you survive and get through it with open ended options like Far Cry 2 and Fallout.

When I see people fly from space into a planet's atmosphere it gives me that feeling of exploration and I hoped that the game also made you feel like you probably weren't going to make it and was more of a survival game.

It seems like from streams and impressions that there is almost no challenge whatsoever other than wandering around to find things you need. That's my hangup with the game.

Try to find a Space Anomaly, and you can ask for guidance to another Atlas Interface~

That's how I found out about the black hole initially, I believe it was basically a space station where I could ask a Korvex for a shortcut. Space Anomaly's will basically show up as soon as you ping in a new sector, yeah? So until then I should just keep warping until I see one?

i'm 22, and enjoying my time. mostly it's searching for things to make money and increasing my suit. i've considered a life of piracy. not against the Gek though. i like them.

i grew up on star wars and star trek, and for a long time i've had this on my desk:
the base has a button which has a soundclip of Spock reciting the Enterprise's mission, Space, the final Frontier...

More_badass said it in a prior thread, but it is true. No Man's Sky is a frontier to be explored, discorvering what there is, flying at your whim

Yeah. They appear randomly when you warp into a new system. The other options that Korvex offers are guidance to a black hole(Like you said), and guidance in exploration(Dunno what that does). Third option being 'Set me in the path of Atlas(sic)'.

Brad at Giant Bomb said that the next content patch will include base building and the ability to purchase larger ships.

Is it normal when you compare ships with aliens that their hyperdrive, pulse cannon and thrust things are all in need of refill?

I've seen a fair few that I'd have liked but i don't get why every single ship needs to be another fixer-upper.

Unless I've got a bug.

I hope I'm not doomed, but I'm trying to get the recipe to make antimatter. I think I think I did get the distress call but I can't find the planet and moved to another galaxy. Will there more more opportunity to get the antimatter recipe?

I looked at at least 30 and all of their hyper-drives were empty.

I'm loving this game so far. I'm playing my PS4 copy casually but I'm going to put some serious time into the PC version this weekend.
Also, Amazon sent me two Alpha Vector ship codes for the PS4 version. It looks like they work.
Anybody want them? PM me.
Edit: Codes are gone now.

31 here.

44 going on 45 and loving it. Original BBC Model B Elite player!

Hit 1,000,000 creds and just farming to get bigger ships. Found emptying out my inventory then going to an Asteroid field near a space station is an easy way to make cash. Make between 100k and 300k in 15 mins depending on how many of the big ones with rarer elements in I get. The bonus is you can buy the ships that land in the station, seen one for 5 million with loads of space, aiming for that and hoping similar comes back when I have the cash!
