A polite discourse amongst friends on the importance of MP-elements in No Man's Sky

This is the thing I'd be more pissed at than the lack of MP. It directly affects everyone whereas the MP thingy would only ever affect people trying to meet up.
Planets do rotate, just much slower than before because people were getting confused when they landed on a planet and left only to be completely opposite direction from the space station.

This is more like telling a friend for a year that you're going to Disneyland and maybe you can pick up some McDonald's for the road. On the morning of you text your friend that you're not hungry so you'll be driving directly to the park, and your friend gets super pissed because the main reason he was ever excited was that chance of a McDonald's pit stop.

No, that's not a good comparison. It has to be something extremely menial, like you're allowed to go and have fun on all the rides, eat mcdonalds, try all the carnival mini games, except the one where you can use a BBgun to shoot Minions.
It's like telling someone for a year and a half they can go on a safari and see tons of things and places, including Lions at this particular preserve you will be exploring! Then after you bought your ticket and get on the savannah tour bus, you ask to drive toward the lions and the spot is empty and you ask "oh can I just wait and see them?" and they're like "k next stop"

And regarding skyboxes, you find out that your safari is actually in one tiny animal reserve park and you'll have to switch buses to go to the next park to see elephants since it's not a seamless huge savannah preserve.

?

Its been downplayed since Day 1.
Have you not been keeping up with the NMS news?
Are you one of those guys who pre-ordered blindly?
Were you thinking to yourself "I can't wait to meet up with my buddy Jeb"?

Well, I myself am 0.1% disappointed in the games' delivery, however, I'll wait for a statement from NMS/Sean before I equate the single-of-many-sprinkles on top of the icing on the cake to a waste of a 60$ purchase.

Sean can answer that question for you:

I think it's ironic that with all the people complaining and calling Sean a liar, the two streamers who actually attempted to meet each other face-to-face are still happily playing the game and streaming it without any bitching or complaining about the fact themselves.

It's as if it's... not a big deal?

Was it maybe a letdown? Sure.

Are they calling for anyone to be executed? Nope.

There's a incredibly slim chance we could meet aliens one day in our real life universe.

Is that exciting to you? Would you pay $60 for that chance?

If your answer is yes, then Sean lied.

Lol comparing real lifes odds with something someone programmed.

This thread is everything.

Ironic, eh? And they became friends. Love, love is the answer.

This guy on Reddit tried. Ship got all buggy, then.

So... it's a bug?

Are you sure about that? I've talked to a few people and they all claim that they do not rotate. Someone idled for 1 hour but the planet in the skybox was not moving.

Let's not

Jiminy crickets, this one miniscule thing and the internet wants his head on a pike.

Shouts outs to Sean Murray and the Hello Games team, I think your game is rad, its a hell of an achievement and something to be proud of.

Worst analogy i've heard in a while. The Multiplayer aspect was ALWAYS talked about as a remote possibility and not the focus of the game at all.

The focus and point of a safari is to see animals, the focus and point of NMS is to visit planets, survive, upgrade, etc. and it lets you do that.

Keep em' coming, the excuses are great. I mean that genuinely. Very entertaining.

The sun rises and sets independently of the (other) planets you see in the sky. That's not possible if there were "real physics" behind it, as it was claimed.

Planets don't rotate?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-no-mans-sky-tech-analysis

Other post processing effects help add to that variety. You get visual tricks like lens flare and bloom from spotlights, all rendered in post. Equally impressive is the manner in which shadows shift across the world, based on a planet's rotation and position to a sun, creating a proper night-day cycle. Sadly, nearby moons stay in a fixed position regardless of this cycle - a bit of a cheat bearing in mind the mathematical precision and correctness found in the game. But it's a rare example of a title simulating planetary bodies for its lighting, while roaming on the ground.

No, cause Lions are common and a big part of the zoo.

MP in NMS has always been that extra tac-on feature that not even the devs really cared about cause its not an MP game.

It would be like not being allowed to get an ice cream at the Zoo. You can still do all the Zoo things, but their ice cream machine is broken :(

The press is nowhere near the level of stupidity and anger seen here.

It's just reporting an "issue" waiting for explanations. No one is saying that they were knowingly misleading, lying or anything else.

And they are asking:

1) Sean on twitter for the in-game issues

2) Sony for anything regarding packaging, marketing, etc. Since you know, that's who actually handled these things.

"minicule thing" seeing other people including your friends in a game that could really REALLY use any tiny little extra bit of content to get out of it's shallow and boring gameplay loop

yeah man,

This is about ethics in video game development.

I will not give up until Sean either apologizes, cries, or puts on shoes during an interview.

So you've already concluded that he is a liar?

What if it is a bug? Aren't you then more in the wrong ethically than he ever was?

everyone is in the same galaxy.

unless you went to the center, then you go to galaxy 2 and are in the same galaxy as all others who went to galaxy 2.

the galaxy is not random.

I don't think the "Center of the Galaxy" is the same place for everyone.

There's 14 Quintrillion Planets. That could make up millions of different galaxies with millions of planets all falling under the same "Universe"

I've seen dozens of planets in many different star systems and I've never come across anything discovered by another player.

It's so much more spread out than you think it is.

Have you played the game?

Would be great if Sean could simply clear up this "miniscule" thing.

Also this game would of lost so much hype if they were selling the game as a single player only game but they didn't

If they sold this as a singleplayer game and advertised it as such, even if they might not generate as much sales it wouldn't have generated much controversy.

The thing is that people keep downplaying this "minor" feature. Well, I'm sure there are quite a few people who bought the game to take the challenge. After all, after your toiling in planets where you see nothing but plants, animals, barren wastelands, icy plains, when you finally find a stranger that's also been through the same, it's sort of a unique experience.

However, he should have just said it from the start if it was a "so-called" minor feature or not mention. People keep saying minor but I would consider it a rather big feature of the game because it makes the game not only singleplayer as you can encounter others.

If they advertised from the very start, this is a singleplayer game where you can upload your discoveries and others can see your mark but you're all doing this in different time periods so you'll never see each other and you'll never know how you look like, then I can say for sure, they won't get as many sales.

yeah man,

So you don't like the game anyways? And it would add a "tiny little extra bit?" Yeah, sounds like a minuscule thing.

It's almost like a majority of the people playing this game are receiving the experience they expected. Shocking!

Worst analogy i've heard in a while. The Multiplayer aspect was ALWAYS talked about as a remote possibility and not the focus of the game at all.

For some people, due to Sean's own promotions, finding another player was part of the appeal, as it isn't even as rare as finding the same species as someone else has or the many other rare unique discoveries that are in the game. He said the feature was in numerous times, but you want to deflect it. He said something can happen, and now the only evidence we have says otherwise and has blown up due to him avoiding the question after people paid for the game. He hasn't said the feature was in or out, despite having previously only saying it was in.

-"You said in ur speech Japan should have nukes Mr. Trump"

--"Well the focus of my speech was economy"

-"Sounds like a direct and definitive clarification that owns up to your claim, thanks"

Like do you really think saying "hey pls look over here and stop looking over there at the messiness" is solving this?

At the same time, you don't have the press defending Sean for his actions. This is also that's happening in this thread with the back and forth. Some of us here want answers. That's it, simple yes or no to whether the feature exists. Don't assume everyone is acting "stupid and angry".

sigh.

son, look. the center is literally a button you click and teleport to the next galaxy which has the same name for anyone.

every galaxy for everyone has the same seed in the formula so that means every system, every planet, every tree is in the same spot for everyone.

you might spawn in a different area but you are never in a different galaxy unless you went from Euclid, the starting galaxy, to Hilbert, which is the next galaxy.

A lot of people are saying it shouldn't matter that stars aren't real entities, the main part of the game is the planets in each skyboxed system, but in my opinion, it does matter.

Think about our solar system. Our planets aren't all on one "side" of the sun. At some point, if you wanted to go form Venus to Earth, you'd have to pass by the sun. This adds a necessary curving detour since, depending on your etc, you can't be within a certain distance of it. The planets revolve around the sun, this is a huge part about space. take that away, and you have a much mo lifeless universe, and stale star systems.
