CGI. Tudyk did the motion capture and voice.

Don't think I've seen this footage before. Where's it from?

OMg, SO HYPE!!

Donnie Yen vs Vadar? :O jk idk

You know, I am afraid of this. Donnie is my favorite kung fu artist and to see him stand to Vader would be great. But, that being said, Vader is Vader and Donnie is not lol. Donnie gonna get thrown like a rag doll if this comes to pass.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but what's up with Saw Gerrera's hair in this trailer since the teaser? One's shaved and one is crazy fro.

He got buzzed by the Death Star's new 'low power' laser.

Setting 1: Haircut
Setting 2: Slowly collapse planet
Setting 3: Instantly destroy planet

Do we know who is playing vader? To be honest, I'd think it'd be kinda cool to get Hayden Christensen to do it. I mean love or hate him, he's part of the canon now, and they get the other actors to come back.

Same here! I'd like to see him get a second chance! Hell, he'd be better directed this time!

It's Spencer Wilding apparently. He's about 6ft 7.

Thanks.

Hayden just isn't big enough for the suit, it would be a token gesture at best unless you get a glance of his face inside the suit, a shot from his perspective would be neat. Anything else, get a big guy to fill the suit.

I wonder how a fight would go down, if he is that powerful instant slaughter. Maybe the groups split up and he faces them separately or they have Batman distraction techniques that are very effective.

I wonder how many of the people who says "it doesn't look like star wars to me" knows about the EU or even the prequels.

Actually at this point, nothing in the prequels feels like star wars to me. Even the Clone Wars and Rebels (which I like a lot) do not hit the soft spot in me.

How amazing would it be if they blow up the Death Star and Jyn kills Darth Vader at the end. That would confuse the shit out of everyone.

I saw a video on YouTube recently that had an interesting theory:
Vader is the one in the Bacta tank after being badly damaged by someone in the movie, this explains why he is so stiff and immobile in ANH
. I don't buy it personally but it could involve a decent fight scene.

I wouldn't have minded Hayden being in the suit, but he's not tall enough and I really wanna see Vader move about a bit in this.

And in a post-credits scene, Jyn puts on Vader's helmet and announces she's about to spend the next few years deep undercover.

Christensen is actually an inch taller than Bob Anderson who was in the Vader suit for stunts, including the lightsaber battles, in Empire and Jedi. They could easily make it work. But like you said, why hire him for a short role unless they are showing his face?

The problem with putting new actors in these iconic suits, like Vader and Chewbacca, is that their physicality is underappreciated. There isn't much you can do about it because the original actors are too old, but it was easy for me to tell that Peter Mayhew was not Chewbacca most of the time in TFA. His walk is nearly impossible to copy and that's down to Mayhew's very unique bone and muscle structure. Prowse might be easier to copy because he was a body builder and it sounds like Vader has a very minor role.

I feel the same about CW and Rebels (though I've not seen that yet) but for me it's the visual style they use that totally detracts it for me.

I would LOVE to see a Star Wars cartoon done in this style, feels like it fits in with the Star Wars aesthetic we can all relate to where CW and Rebels just don't. I mean Vader in Rebels looks awful, really skewed charicature version of the guy... just make him look like the Vader we know and love, it's a mask with an iconic shape, why mess with that!?

So this or Dory for #1 at the 2016 domestic box office?

Isn't Civil War the one to beat?

Edit: Oh, missed the Domestic part. Either way I reckon this will easily pass both.

I heard there was a fourth setting, Back Massage, but off-duty officers kept using it "creatively," so the Emperor had to put a stop to that.

If this is good, this

If it is basura, Dory

Probably what I would go with as well. Though I think Rogue One could hit Civil War numbers even with shit reviews. The trailers have been good, and I think Star Wars has a more dedicated fanbase than DC (which got two films close to/over $300M this year with Transformers level reviews).

All the films are fairly distinct feeling even the OT. Just think about how different TESB is from ANH. They explored a lot of different elements and really opened up the Universe with that one. And that's fine. I remember seeing every Prequel in the theaters and it was always weird the first few times, but now they feel as much like Star Wars as the OT. The Force Awakens is almost to that point for me. I still need to marathon the 7 films.

And really The Clone Wars show is the most Star Wars thing to me, because it feels like exactly what Lucas wanted to accomplish when he talked about creating a throwback to the old Space Operas and movie serials.

You must have hated the FA trailers.

The TFA trailers didn't solely sell the tone of the thing. Trooper goes good, woman dreams big, Vader-fixated villain and Han back to the Falcon - those were the story beats. You seem to be reading 'show me all the story beats' rather than what I'm saying, which is 'promise me great story beats'. It doesn't speak well to the script if all we've heard so far is disconnected declaratives.

The language of the trailers so far seems to be leading with costume and 'part' rather than character, which is the opposite of a good Star Wars story. I just wish it were communicated better, because it does genuinely seem like a great concept but so far it's without the compelling stuff that will set it apart. Finn and Rey even from the trailers have proper compelling motivation to act in the plot, but we still don't really know why any of these rebels put stock in the Death Star plans - compelling motivation which would go some way to humanising the trailers a bit. Because so far it's grabbing me only through iconography.

There's nothing in this trailer that makes me go 'huh? what? Why? How?" If I'm curious, I'll lean in. Similarly, "A stormtrooper casts off his helmet to find a purpose" is a solid pitch. Show me how that works, cos I've *never* seen that. The lack of dialogue compounds that 'it's all mood' comment so far.

The initial TFA teases were enough because it was NEW STAR WARS. That's enough. This time I'm not so sure. I'm sure it'll get better, but at this point I've seen all the kind of WW2-like spectacle, character-based stuff would intrigue me far more.

The ROTS trailer's the same problem from the opposite end. "Jedi goes dark" is a solid pitch, but don't tell me how it starts, middles and ends.

Really liked the trailer and the tone they are going for. Reminds me more of the original trilogy where not everything was about the force and Jedis.

Good exposure for Donnie Yen, I like that he seems to have a meaty role judging from his screen time in the trailer.
But no Mads Mikkelsen confuses me, dude should be one of the standout actors to promote the movie.

Reshoots. The teaser version won't be in the final film.

Nope. Sounds like there might be a time gap between his scenes.

Gerrera has also changed – literally – since we first saw him in the teaser trailer. In a photo released as part of an EW cover story in June, his shaved head and close-cropped beard has been replaced with a wildfire of hair.

Some theorized that this was a alteration brought about during reshoots for the movie, but Whitaker says it’s a switch that happens within the story. Given the extra gray in his beard, maybe we’re seeing Saw at two different stages of his life.

“We made some decisions about how the character was progressing. They had a lot of opportunity to make tweaks and different things,” he says. “You’ll see both.”

This movie looks like how I always imagined the Star Wars universe was for non-force users. The Empire looks impressive as hell. So much WANT!

I love all the movie reviews off a 90 second trailer. Flat delivery, no charisma, etc etc.

Who needs to watch the full thing when 90 seconds is all you need to make a final determination on a movie? /sar

I don't know how anyone who loves Star Wars could watch that trailer and go "meh". People complained about Clone Wars animated...it was awesome. People complained about Rebels...it's awesome. People complain about this...must be awesome!

I'm not feeling Felicity Jones line delivery in these trailers so far. If she's trying to sell airy petulance it's falling flat.

Everyone else around her is making her stand out acting wise and not in a good way.

So, K-2SO is basically HK-47? I got the feeling he's not your average C3PO.

Also, we have confirmation that Hayden Christensen is NOT playing Vader, right?
