How are people's experience with the GOG version?
I have the GOG version and it stutters a lot. Tried everything but i only managed to reduce it, i don't know how bad it is on Steam but the GOG version is still terrible and looks awful. Image quality is particularly disgusting. Also, where's all the beautiful grass they showed off in the trailers? All i see are horrible, flat, low res textures.

My config:

i5 4670K
MSI GTX 970
8GB RAM
Installed on a Samsung 850 Evo SSD

Is the stuttering you are experiencing anything like what is in the video that Phil0sophy posted above?

Does anyone who is still having framerate issues after turning off in-game vsync test turning off Steam overlay in settings?

Settings > In-Game > check off 'Enable Steam Overlay'

I will stream the game quick and show you how flawless this gog version runs, here is the little broadcast I just did, watch from 2 mins onwards https://www.twitch.tv/phil0sophy/v/83279154

Lol

Good one..... Because you are joking, right?

Or you cant see the big framefreezes that happen during you playthrough?

Looks just like the framefreezes i get on a gtx1070, steam version (of course they run the same, why wouldnt they?)

21:9 support is borked?!

Thats a deal breaker to me. I was willing to buy it despite all because I figure they will get ironed out.

But ultrawidescreen stretch is a no deal for me

The stuttering is constant and unbearable for me.

980ti
i7-6700k
16GB RAM

I just can't deal with it.
How is that possible?
I'm at 120-144fps 95% of the time with occasional dips down to 40fps on a 4ghz i7, 16GB RAM, 980ti with Windows 7 64bit. No crashes either.

Awesome game btw, can't stop playing! it's 2:40 in the morning now gaaah! This is the definition of GOTY material for me judging by my 7 hour first sitting.

I'm on GoG wih a 1070, i7 3770k and it a flawless. Everything is maxed except shadows because I dont like shadows in games and have it running borderless with Max FPS. Vsync is on and getting 100+ fps all the time.

No I just watched the stream back and the stuttering you see on the stream wasnt apparent in my game when I was playing, it's because I forgot to turn my virus scan off that I had going in the background LMAO, it was a spur of the moment decision to stream.

Complete fail and yes, the steam version is a complete stutter fest, can't even walk around without massive hitches.

K but just to be sure, are you talking about just the huge frame freezes when you are in your ship or the constant stuttering as well?

I get a lot of stuttering, but haven't had any crashes (yet).

i5-4670k@4.5ghz
R9 Fury@1050/550

I have a 3440x1440 ultrawide but I've been streaming at 1080p to my TV. I won't try it on my monitor until they fix UW stretching.

It's still miles better than the PS4 version. I sent my copy back to Amazon the day I got it. I couldn't stand the super narrow FOV and constant crashing. Also, it felt like I was turning in molasses on the PS4. PC doesn't feel like that at all on my Xbox 360 or Steam Controller.

So you have a high refresh rate monitor then correct?

No it's definitely less, but it still runs like garbage.

Oh well at least he has grass on that planet lol

EDIT: the only thing i haven't tried is installing the latest nvidia drivers, does that help?

People were right about the 100 FoV being way off too, make sure to change that to 140+ in the TKgraphics file. Setting it to readable does make it so you don't have to change the FOV every startup btw, but it'll revert to 100 (or whatever is set on the slider) for your play session if you change graphics in-game.
Yeah i can't recommend this enough.

WHAT
THE
FUCK

The GoG standalone version runs way WAY better for me than the Steam one.
There are still some tiny little loading hitches when a new sound wants to play or when you enter a new chunk that gets loaded, but it's at a minimum compared to the Steam version.

I however can NOT alt-tab in fullscreen, but whatever, borderless it is.

In case anyone is wondering, the 3 videos I posted above were all from the GOG version. I disabled v-sync from the start from reading posts here, but the stuttering has been rare. On 1440p instead of 1080p the stuttering increases but not nearly as bad as some people mention here...

Seems this is a bit heavy on the CPU to properly stream over steam?

Pretty smooth when just walking around most of the time but flying causes enormous stuttering on the computer it's being streamed to but is running flawlessly on the host computer...

I mean there should be no difference between the gog and steam version right? Maybe its the steam overlay? Since the game has issues with fullscreen that might relate to the overlay?

So what is the consensus on stuttering? Unavoidable?

I tried it earlier, GTX 970 rig (which I run Witcher 3, Fallout 4 etc fine on) and the performance was awful. After I disabled the frame limiter - which is enabled by default and was locking me to 15fps (possibly due to HDMI connected monitor bug) - the game came to life. However even with medium options it had frequent stutter and struggled fps wise.

Alright, 3 benchmarks that I hope will help some of you. FRAPS fps counter on, both space + ground gameplay, the results speak for themselves so no need for me to explain the results for

GTX 980 + i7 6700k 1440p max settings

V-sync off in all of them, g-sync in the 980 video.

Edit: So I'm very happy with my 780 setup. 95% 60fps at max settings, but downsampling is a bit of a stretch for it. Downsampling DOES clear the image a lot though.

Ouch @ the stutter 2:12

Exactly what i see on the steam version. Identical

I checked, the GOG version has one less DLL file. That's it. Maybe a placebo.

But how often do you get them? Because they are absolutely rare even at my home PC. I'm okay with a stutter here and there, specially when I'm not in direct control as the case there.

Edit: ^TehGoomba the other rare ocasion I get them is when breaking atmosphere too. But the game is perfectly playable.

Somebody needs to find the settings for that vignette and chromatic aberration at the top of the screen. Can't figure out why it's even there.. I know I'm wearing a helmet because I can hear myself breathing.

Well

They dont seem to be in the ps4 version and that hardware is 30% of my pc (or less!)

Is the reaction to NMS here a contender for one of the biggest fiascos ever on this forum? Even this thread is a complete debacle.

Was going to return my PS4 copy for PC but there isn't much point yet by the looks of it.

Specs:

i5-6600K
8GB
R9 390

I was having horrible screen tearing and enabling VSync in game was doing nothing for me, so I forced VSync at the driver level and turned on OpenGL Triple Buffering as well. Tearing is completely gone now. Went ahead and forced 16x AF as well and bumped up the FOV to 140. Much, much better experience.

Still getting stuttering here and there, but bumping the shadows down to medium seems to help with that.

Edit: Oh, I also changed the GSync value to false in that settings file since I don't have a GSync monitor and that seemed to help with some of the stuttering as well.

But what if I HAVE gsync D:

Why? I tested this game with a g-sync monitor and it was glorious. No suttering, hovering between 50-90 fps at 1400p Quad HD, no need to do anything at all because of the hovering frames, just turn off v-sync and you're good to go. Man I love g-sync... I wish I could take the monitor I use at work home.

But I'm being honest, are you getting any kind of problem with gsync on?

Oh, I mean for people without Gsync of course xD

Well

I understand you. Plus, honestly, I can't see where this game can stress out some PCs. Graphics are very, very simplistic, and my cpu is nowhere near full load.

And the game is not in java like Minecraft either lol

Game is working fine for me. No problems at all. Besides a stutter here and there when I guess something new is being loaded.

My specs:

Nvidia GTX 980

What kind of performance can I except with those specs?

Same here! But tread carefully. People can talk shit about console popin and 30 FPS. But if you say one word about something not working well on PC, you're gonna get hung! :)

Since you don't seem to understand this, the reason why it's unacceptable for games to have performance problems on PC (and I suppose this is mostly in regards to those playing on high-end gaming machines) is because the amount of power provided by a quad-core desktop CPU and several-hundred-dollar GPU should mean that the game has no excuse for not running well. The game has the resources to run butter-smooth, it just isn't utilizing them properly at all.

60 frames maxed out 1080p. FXAA. Not good enough for 1440p at a locked 60 though

Edit: I'm dying to find a lush planet. they all look the same so far, so barren and with the same colors. That has actually me glued to the game. The chase of finding something different. I think that was Sean's plan all along. I wanna see some purrrrty stuff damnit.

Max settings at 1440p and SSAA x4, no v sync, FOV 100.

Getting 70-80fps most of the time and had no crashes in 3 hours. I initially got some hitching on my first planet, but it went away after a while. Only issue I had was when I flew down to a planet that was mostly water, and the framerate was anywhere from 40-60fps with hardly anything on screen other than water...bit weird. I haven't tried SLI'ing my 980 Ti's with this game, but I could take a guess that it probably doesn't support SLI...

Followed the tips in the OP and was still having some inconsistent frame rate. Bumped the shadows down to medium and now its smooth as butter. Not much stuttering either. Finally time to dig in. Hopefully they fix the AA as well. It does seem a tad blurry. Didn't feel like it was blurry on the PS4.

I believe the makers of Hover Junkers for the Vive reported that Steam profiles were causing performance issues with the game. Installing it to a brand new profile for example was fine. Ever since I saw that I've been curious if that is an issue with other games.

Expected the worst from reading this thread but my game so far has not crashed once and only has the odd tiny stutter from time to time. Fps between 50 & 113 with vsync on(just read the op to disable it).

Running on FX8350 @ 4.2,R9-290X & 16gb 1833 clocked ram.Not on SSD.

Just to add I spawned on a lush planet with animals and ships flying around(made a little vid)😃

G-sync simply isn't working with this game. Fullscreen or windowed, the refresh rate doesn't change at all when I launch the game.

Others have mentioned that it works for them but I have to ask, are you sure? The "refresh rate bar" in my monitor's OSD stays in the exact same spot while NMS is running but in most other games you can see the bar move as the frame rate changes.

Turning off the Steam Overlay solved my stuttering it seems. Much better than my previous results. I can't fell these spikes and they were horrible before even turning the camera. I think these spikes were only when entering or exiting the ship.

My V-Sync was already off since I have G-Sync.

Finally able to install the game (lawn mowing, supper, etc).

Will post back with results..quick summary of my Dell XPS 15 laptop.

Wow. Yeah, game is legit unplayable for me. Never had to refund a game for being actually too poorly optimized to run for me before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Not sure if I should grab the ps4 version after that or just leave the game some time to mature the bugs out.

Looks like they're pulling an all nighter to get some fixes out including the SSE fix

http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/7/360672137536640057/

We are going to create an experimental branch with hot fixes for these most common known issues:

• Shader Cache issue – means that framerate is initially stuttering on some cards. Whilst it resolves itself over time (~1 hour of play), we will fix this issue in a patch.
• SSE 4 – for CPUs that do not support SSE 4, it is causing the game to crash on boot (some of these area technically below min spec, but we don’t want it to crash!)
• Mouse controls jitter on foot – this caused by a combination of certain resolution and GFX card. A fix is in progress.

I did not have the OSD to check it out, since only at work do I have a g-sync monitor, so I was just putting it on display for clients to play, but I played for 20 minutes and it absolutely was working, on space I could tell the 90-100FPS.

I'm new to 144hz monitors (first time dealing with one, at work) and I have yet to get "used" to the smoothness, so I can very easily tell it's engaged above 75fps. The game was at 50-55 on the planet, and the frame pacing was pitch perfect too, so I could tell it was on below 60 as well.

Edit: I can check it out on the OSD if you really want me to tomorrow, but I hope you get it working before then. Drop me a PM if you want me to check it out

I finally got the game working on my system a few hours ago, runs at a smooth 60FPS on my system though it still does hitch at times.

Port is a mess though

Probably suggest turning off Afterburner, or any other injectors, in use to fully test if they are causing any issues.
