Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

Yup! The more I watch it......the more I like the English Voice Actors......the one liners definitely need tuning....but hopefully thats fixed. Other then that.....its seriously not bad at all. I think I might enjoy playing through twice, once on each setting lol

ya Vincent kinda sucks but hey at least he's not a big focus of the whole game

You are speaking as if Cloud's design was realistic or not goofy at all.

Hell, if anything, the FFXV designs are way more "down to earth" than most of the characters in FFVII....

It's completely fine if you find them ridiculous. They are. But then trying to compare them to Final Fantasy VII is... Well.. A very weird choice.

Random thoughts after watching it whole

-IQ is terrible and performance is okay i guess, this delay was sorely needed

-Combat UI is way too cluttered, hope the customization options are wide

-Leveling grid is okay-ish but it looks like there very little upgrades

-VA isn't as bad as some of you make it, i just can't stand Cidney

-I get that the beginning of the game is made to let you sink into the open world and it's mechanics, but i really hope it stops being so formulaic ("go to character X to get a random quest about Y in order to progress the story") and gets a bit tighter the more you progress through the story

-Wait we can't customize the weapons by ourselves? Bummer

-So many enemies in the early hours makes me fear they'll only reharsh those models for the later part of the game

-Really hope there is more variation in terms of sidequest activities other than go there and kill X/collect Y, or at least give us some interesting context

-Iris is such a Nomura character lol

I don't get it this dude looks hard af
Barret and the rest of VIIs cast has had the benefit of years of iteration and hindsight to really craft their designs.
But now that I'm typing this I realize so has XVs cast hyuckhyuck

Phew. That was really decent actually. Certainly still concerned about the performance and battle system. Performance and IQ in particular though I don't think they'll get to a great spot, even with the 2 extra months. The "feel" and story are looking super promising however.

VA is a bit caricature in places for some of the characters, Noctis is a huge improvement though. Menu system is also super nice. The music, as always, is god tier.

In summary: Cautiously optimistic (but more hope now) :)

Can't wait to use this sword

I've seen this picture so many times over the years.

Every time, it's a thumbnail, and I think the arrow was pasted on to draw attention to that thing on the floor and I peer in for a closer look.

It just happened again.

For me that's a bit of the problem. I want outlandish in FF. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Never said Cloud was realistic, he looks like an anime character. Looks really great in Smash and 7R though.

These guys look like Korean pop stars. They cross that line of realism where they don't look like cartoon characters anymore and just look like really weird and garish humans.

FF has always gone in cycles, especially since the transition to 3D. 7 was a mix of grounded and fantasy, then we had 8 which doubled down on the more down to earth designs, then 9 went in the complete opposite, and 10 went back to a mix, then 12 went for a more grounded look, and then 13 went in the opposite direction again.

I really don't like the one liners during combat.

"What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger!"

It's just a bit cringey to me. Very unoriginal too

I still have several... well, concerns about this game but I'd be lying if I said that footage didn't look better than I expected. It's remarkable how much of an impact something as minor as new combat music made on me, but I really liked the new song. And I appreciated the block/parry prompts, I hope there's an option to keep those visible beyond the tutorial considering there will inevitably be enemies attacking from off-screen. I'll bite my tongue on the rest, though... don't see a reason to dogpile

I highlighted the three regions on the world map. There's still plenty of places to see.

EDIT: fixed the Leide western border.

I see a city in the Duscae area.....but it wasn't in the actual demo.....how big is Duscae compared to the play area we got? Because Duscae was already a pretty big fucking area. You think you could map the demo area in that bigger section?

edit: nvm you added it in a post while I was posting!

HOLY FUCK THIS MAP IS HUGE!!!!!

Actually on this note I think VIII's designs are pretty horrid too. Similar vibe to this game, although definitely much older which you can tell from the designs alone.

Prepare yourself for the FFVII remake, then! It will be more of the same thing.

This video is kinda selling me the game! I see some lacking parts with the VA but I think I'll enjoy the game overall. Now Imma wait patiently for Neo announcement.

Loving the Ascension UI, seems very similar to Skyrim's perk system

Oh shit, is this a sphere grid but just for major ability upgrades? Like you'll get your stat ups and whatnot with level ups, but to unlock major upgrades/new abilities, you use this?

Cause damm sounds fucking great

I thought 12 was the opposite of grounded. Vossler looked like a fucking Nokia mobile phone! Even the Judges (who looked badass) were more about Rule of Cool than realistic. 13 had more grounded designs IMO.

Certain weapons have different properties btw.

And Ashe's skirt.

Totally what Royalty would wear.

Did we even know about the Ascension system and the "Astrosphere"? Didn't old FF's used to make a thing out of their progression systems before launch, like the Sphere Grid or Crystarium?

I thought all the silence on it meant we had streamlined character development with only gear affecting stats and Phantom Weapons granting new abilities.

It looks better than The Witcher 3. So you are wrong.

Nothing silly about it. The Witcher 3 looks good, but it doesn't get close to this. Character models and lighting alone puts it above TW3.

It seems pretty standard for 15 years ago, maybe.

By modern day VO standards, it's awful. Like, I'm not sure I can deal with playing through a 50 hour game with VO this bad.

Yeah it's pretty substandard for a AAA game. You know shit is fucked when budget idea factory and tales games have better VA.

I think it looks pretty great and fun to play. I'm not really all that concerned about any technical issues or graphics problems like a lot here seem to be. I'm not super picky and graphics don't really concern me. In any case, I think it looks nice for an open world game (comparable to a lot of other console open world games out). Sucks about the delay, but if they want to polish it some more, that's cool too.

Wait Famitsu said it took them 25 hours to do all of the 3 chapters? So this video is cut down by a lot?

Also wtf Noctis can wear a hat?!?!

It seens they did a lot of side-quests. The main game has ~50 hours not counting the side stuff.

The designs are fantastical to a certian degree but I feel like they definitely are on the more realistic scale. You just gotta remember they were going for a medieval middle Eastern design aesthetic.

Well, Cloud looks exactly like what you described, so... Don't know what you are talking about. :/

Cloud looks like a fantasy character, you're getting too hung up on the level of detail.

His outfit and hair are unrealistic but rendered with a high level of detail to make them believable. His features are exaggerated but not so much so that it loses its sense of realism.

FFXV has four bros that look like pop stars wearing designer clothes doing exaggerated fancy flips and cartwheels for no reason before they hop back into their Audi R8 - it just looks ridiculous. FF VII on the other hand offers a world and character designs that are cohesive with each other and falls more comfortably into its fantasy aesthetic.

edit - oh except vincent who looks like a cheesy doofus

It works because of the low-poly design.

Well that's thing. Character design exaggerations were made to give character models identity and personality. Cloud was originally supposed to have slicked back black hair in a pony tail but it looked like shit so Nomura gave him some weird ass spikey blonde hair and it worked.

Isn't the whole point of the delay to make sure that the low framerate and IQ issues are settled from the get go? Not sure why people are so focused on it.

Nah. The issue was they tried to bring a design that was intended for a time and tech into something more realistic without making any changes. It works great as PS1 model.

I do wonder why Vincent was the only character who kept his original design.
