Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

I just watched Brotherhood 1-3 and it turns out that it's very helpful in explaining several things which are completely taken for granted that the player knows about in those 50 minutes we've seen of FFXV proper.

They are really pulling a Halo here, breaking out various bits of background story from the game and putting it in these shorts. I think it's safe to guess that there's a lot of important stuff in Kingsglaive which is also left completely out of FFXV but you better know about it too or the story won't make sense to you.

In unrelated news, I greatly prefer the JP voice work just from hearing the main four in Brotherhood alone.

Also, it's hilarious that Insomnia is depicted in Brotherhood 2 as literally Japan with some really high walls around it. They apparently had absolutely no interest in making Insomnia look like a fictional city in a fictional world, I mean it's a 12-minutes short so fuck it, let's just draw the school and the city like it's Japan.

Well Insomnia has always been described like that. It isn't until recently they made it to seem more fictional which is represented in KG. The new episode sort of shows that too but there are still some places that look straight out Japan.

Nomura always wanted all of the locations to vaguely resemble modern world locations while having a fictional presence around them, from the beginning of Versus's conception. Insomnia in particular was supposed to be based on Shinjuku in Japan.

Hence the term 'a fantasy based on reality'

Yup. That's why Altissia is based off of Venice and Lestallum is based off Havana, Cuba. Also apparently Niflhiem is supposed to be a medieval town that uses machinery. Or that's what we thought. I seriously doubt we'll see Niflhiem.

The most important thing from eps 1-4 is that Gladiolus is best boy.

There's nothing lazy about it. It's a conscious decision.

"A fantasy based on reality"

Insomnia is intentionally a fantasy Tokyo. It has a Shinjuku-style ward and everything. Not by accident or just because it's "what they know", but because they wanted to inject some unusually real-world settings into a fantasy world. It's the same level oddity as putting an Americana truck stop in a fantasy world.

Even going back to Versus videos, this was the case. The 2011 video (I think it was) showed the transition from a bizarre outside fantasy world into what is basically 1:1 a Japanese city. They're aware of how odd and uncanny it is.

(to be fair to your point, it might have been easy for the animators of Brotherhood to take directions to just not change a thing from the usual contemporary anime setting)

Oh I didn't see you beat me to the point. Anyway, it's worth elaborating on, lest people not get the memo.

Yeah, people who have been keeping up with the dev of this game since the beginning would be pretty well aware of the real world influences in cities in the game, but I don't blame people for thinking it was lazy or something. I personally like it though (although I didn't really like the straight up japan school and some of the rural roads)

Don't worry y'all, I've got this:

Final Fantasy XV |OT| The Plague of Cars

Final Fantasy XV |OT| The Plague of Image Quality

I think it'd be cool if this world also had a fantasy New York or Paris or something. Anyhoo....

I don't have bittorrent installed so can someone upload the gamersyde file onto mega or something?

Just download from the SE press site.

go to video tab
http://press.na.square-enix.com/products/p251/final-fantasy-xv

Some captures from that vid.

It's in English.

Thanks!

I am still going to download it. I want to watch it without my crappy wifi connection on my laptop interfering. I'm finally off for a few days so I will dedicate some time to this.

I feel so sorry for SE for how the Luminous Engine turned out. It seems that they still aren't fully capable of utilizing it.

Me as well. I hope they haven't invested too much money into this.... :(

Does anyone think the Uncharted-esque sequence form the 2013 trailer is still in the game?

I have my doubts. I think I remember reading it was a target render (and you can tell, since the little gameplay footage in that trailer has Alpha framerate). I was hoping it was gonna be some super bombastic scripted/linear opening for the game before it settles into the more low-key open road trip, but now that we've seen the first 50 minutes it's obvious that's not the case.

It also looks like the sequence takes place in Altissia, which we don't start the game in. And since the city gets basically demolished in the sequence, I doubt it happens in the actual game due to it being locked out of the endgame.

Someone said that's what we'll get in a trailer tomorrow.

That was all CG and the game's mechanics don't support climbing of that kind. That scene did take place in Altissia during the Leviathan battle, and we've seen a couple of small, few-second moments of it in trailers throughout. Basically, Don't expect the 2013 trailer stuff in the game.

It was never in the game though. That entire trailer was a concept video bullshot. Nothing was in-engine, nothing was implemented as gameplay. It was just rendered to look like that.

Visual Works also held a presentation on how they rendered that trailer AFAIK.

Atleast we are getting some of the Leviathan stuff and the recent leak
talks about some auto climbing segment
so looks like they are trying to fulfill the gameplay seen in the trailer.

I hope they at least try to get the 2013 trailer stuff in there, even if it's just purely scripted and one-off mechanics.

It was funny how the events of the 2006 reveal trailer for FFXIII, which was clearly intended to demonstrate combat, was in the game....... as a non-interactive cutscene.

At least they fixed their TAA a bit to get rid of that horrid dithering on vegetation from Uncovered.

If that was the PC build, looks like the actual assets aren't in high quality anyways. I am talking about the rocks in the desert. So the game might be inconsistent in term of the asset quality. Which can be the case since they outsourced it to like dozen studios.

I agree about the TAA bit, it looks better here although the PS4 version looks rather soft and not something that is native 1080p. This looks like a pipe dream now.

I don't expect the LOD to improve but they should bump the graphics up a notch. Make it medium instead of the low preset that they are using now for PS4 and Xbox One. Hopefully that is not much to ask here.

The lighting downgrade in FFXV never stops being funny.
I don't think it is a downgrade per se. The dynamic lighting + weather just makes the lighting look like a downgrade.

Like when they arrive in Lestallum, the graphics look like a far cry from the Jump Festa trailer. They look like it is running on low but the overcast weather also makes everything grim dark. The AF, AA and texture quality was total shit but I firmly believe that part of the reason why it looked so bad was also due to the weather + difference in Lighting.

This. The lighting system is actually quite gorgeous. But it obviously depends on the time of day and weather.

Pretty sure they took out some key tech of the Global Illumination for the console versions.

I would, however, like to see a proper comparison between the pre-downgrade image and the gameplay video taken at the same time of day. Midday will almost always look flat in lighting. People seem to forget that.

That happened during Platinum demo but it still looked gorgeous with its lighting so I doubt this is the case here. Infact as Duckroll mentions the lighting downgrade in the image comparison posted by benzy, the 'sunny' lighting that illuminated the hair was very much present in the Platinum demo.

It can be seen in the very first room when the weather is clear and sun is out in full force. In that way, there is no downgrade for it, just not a favorable 1:1 comparison so far.

I'd believe it if someone says the bad IQ is due to bad Youtube compression.

But this is supposed to be taken from that uncompressed 8gb video, right? The icons are sharp, but the IQ is not.

There's still plenty of compression / artifacts there, video might be 8GB but it's still fucked.

Not saying that it causes the bad IQ, but it plays a part.

Still holding onto hope these extra 2-3 months can bring back some of that lighting and material work from the WoW trailer.

Currently it's definitely not up to par going by that ps4 Lestallum screenshot. Also curious what improvements they'll have for Neo now that they're for sure required to support it.

By "in the game" I mean on a conceptual level there would be a sequence like that.

I know it was a render. Like I said, there's the obvious telltale moment when the low-framerate gameplay starts playing vs the ultra smooth "gameplay" from the Uncharted sequence. I was just wondering if there was still any reason to believe if that sequence was still planned to be in the game.

This has spoilers regarding an upcoming video and the game in general but according to this GAFFER, we are getting something similar to E3 2013.

I'm getting word about what we are getting tomorrow from someone at GC.

Huge spoilers if real. They claim to have told me,
We ARE getting a 10 minute look at Leviathan on PS4, the actual fight will take about 1 hour, 6 phases, (every summon fight is like this) or so but we aren't seeing the whole thing. The climbing is in (however it is automated) and water typhoon is still in, Altissia gets destroyed. He said that Shiva is obtained before Leviathan, she freezes the water against Levithan. But obviously expect the graphical downgrade from E3 2013.

There's a Leviathan segment with a huge tidal wave in the game. Dunno how close it'll play out to the E3 pre-render though.

Can't wait to see its downgraded look on PS4 :P

This GIF is from the Reclaim Your Throne trailer, which is... lets see.... different than what we are seeing from the Master version.

Looks like I may be able to preview this on Monday (Australian time), not sure if there'll be an NDA or what build I'll be playing but... Any questions y'all want me to answer? No guarantees on good/new answers though.

PM me.

Are you conducting an interview ?
If so could you ask them what happen to the meele moves?
Can we still, kick, throw, slam enemies into cars or walls?
If you are not conducting an interview, Could you please check to see if the skill tree menu mentions anything related to meele moves. Ty.

Yes please, ask them
-to what degree we can customize Noctis and the party playstyles: up until now we've seen them fighting always in the same way, with little variation in classoc RPG roles, and it feels like most of the players will end up playing the same
-if classic FF spells like Haste, Protect, but also debuffs are in
-if all the Royal Weapons are tied to the main story or if some are extra content, hidden in some really hard place to reach

What will be the OT title, anyway?

I kinda feel like using one of Versus' catchphrases would only make people salty and lead to off topic discussion. Maybe go with Reclaim Your Throne?

Final Fantasy XV |OT| Stand by Me
Final Fantasy XV |OT| A Hajime Tabata Game based on a Tetsuya Nomura Game

Maybe ask them if they are going to update the visuals due to the 2 months extra time and if the gamescom build included the day 1 patch

The ign video interview answers the first question (ie: its mostly bug fixes, graphical bug fixes and polish)

as for the second question, no the gamescom build does not have the day 1 patch(can we call it day 0 patch now?).

If it did, they wouldn't need a delay to work on the patch...
