Anything the passive cooled protoypes can do this can do better, far far better.

i'm late to this but 80c is still hot for such a device, on my windows 10 tablet I can change the bios settings to adust when and how the chip is throttled and i'm use to a hot tablet when it's watching videos, I kind of worry about such a hot handheald. My tablet also heats up more if it's sucking juice from the mains so playing with this thing plugged in might push it.

I agree-it would have been "neat" to have a sub $400 pocket sized computer that plays PC games, emulators, streams, etc back in 2001. Ill go even further to say that it could have been "spiffy".

So-I ended up buying mine from Geekbuying.com. Wonder when I can reasonably expect it.

Yeah, if only there were something I can get right now that can play PC games like KOTOR or GTA San Andreas, emulators, and streams. Oh wait, my Android phone can do that, with the added benefit that it can play mobile games.

So its probably not for you. The primary audience this is aimed at is in Asia. There's an interesting niche that is asking for a highly portable pc. This is the perfect device to satisfy it, the fact that a lot of people on GAF are clamouring for it is more of a side effect.

And your Android phone plays some PC ports (which are few and far between), the GPD potentially has access to the steam library. It's a pretty big difference.

Anyway, I'm tempted to buy from GeekBuying. Interested to see if I can get Witcher 3 running as "well" as it does on Surface 3 (in theory it should be better)

Your Android phone can't 'play PC games like KOTOR or GTA San Andreas'. It can play those two specific games plus a couple other ones that may have been specifically ported to Android. And it can't play them very well. The benefit of playing mobile games really? as opposed to being "limited" to the Steam library you mean?

Its a palmtop pc more powerful than any computer from 2001 for less than $400 that can play most games from ps3 era on back and it could have been neat in 2001?

That's internal cpu temp, IIRC they mentioned elsewhere that the body/part of the body was right around 42C when CPU temp was at 80C.
Still hot but we are talking about a device the size of a 3ds xl with a 1.6ghz clock speed running with turboboost at 1.81ghz for half an hour.
Never looked into it but I'm assuming you can disable turboboost if you don't want the extra speed and heat.

If im not mistaken that was for the Prototype without the copper heatsink and the fan so it should be alot cooler for the final version, review units I believe are being sent out soon to English speakers so we should have more accurate tests soon.
Edit: Nvm supposedly at least according to translate it is the fan version.

Don't think it will run well but take a look at LowSpecGamer (Youtuber) if you want to go deep into fiddling with a game you can get some stuff working decently well on low spec stuff.

Yet your phone can't play a single windows game. You can play the two or three ports of old ass PC games, congrats!

This guy has both and does a side by side comparison of the passive and actively cooled version and the differences.
He alternates between somewhat broken English and Cantonese in describing things.
Couple bits, the fan switch has 3 settings as we know but I don't think it was confirmed until now but the three are high, low and off.
No software control although I'm not gonna hold that against them seeing how it was a last minute major design change.
It might be independent of the rest of the system and have its own connection to the battery supply regardless of the system being on or off but that is entirely my speculation at this point.
Considering how small the fan is and they've said its not loud I can't really see many situations where you'd need a low setting for even less sound but if you do well its got it.

You can see the size difference between the two although it isn't huge.
He does do multiple go arounds on each of the palmtops so you can see the shoulder buttons and ports, the speaker and fan holes and the differences between the two and so on.

I think this guy uploads his stuff on Youko first and then later posts them onto his youtube channel.
Might be worth following to see what all he posts cause Youko hates me and youtube videos are so much easier to watch for me at least.
I think he had a video of the original Doom 1 or 2 that I assume he'll upload soon.
You can see him switching between using the joystick as a controller and then mouse by switching over, a bit awkward but kinda neat to see to me at least.

Can't imagine the fan drains the battery to a significant level, but toggling it off for flights when I want to play less taxing software is nice.

Agreed on all points; I am glad that they upped the mAh of the battery to accommodate the fan (and then some, probably).

Cpu utilization sat around 75-80% in battle, CPU temp hovered around 55-60C and framerate was stable around 25 fps.
Considering the minimum system requirements thats playing better than I anticipated TBH.

Really like how this guy does it, he has screen capture from the Win itself and in the bottom left he has another video running showing a recording of him playing on it synced with the main video and he has framerate, cpu temp and utilization all up on the screen.

I saw this a couple hours ago. Honestly, the CPU at 75-80% and ~55-60C with the way the game was playing was surprisingly good. This isn't a game I could see myself playing on this device, but the results of the active cooling system so far are very promising.

Not bad not bad not expecting to run AAA games from the last 4 years or so but its nice to see what its capable of, going to be fun tweaking and messing around with game settings.

Definitely have a problem when it comes to handhelds, in the last 4 or so years I have owned a Vita, N3DSXL, GPD XD, And now the GPD WIn, all had Homebrew and emulators on every device...Will tie me over till a possible GPD Win 2 haha.
 
These guys should make gaming laptops. For $499, that's damn good what they're able to do. The GPD WIN is basically a mini laptop anyway. Imagine what they can do with a $699 or $799 device that's focused on 720p first. Real gaming laptops are $1000+.

Highly doubt they would do well the Chinese market is flooded with average to decent laptops/tablets already.

*shrug* I understand the stigma with IndieGogo but the creators will get their money, IndieGogo users will get shipped to first, and GPD has literally been logging into the campaign every single day and responding to backer's comments. I'm not worried about it for this particular project.
 
Well, I recently picked up an HP Stream from WalMart for $150 and it plays about a 1/5 of my Steam Library pretty well, and was even able to sorta play Overwatch (at 15fps). Makes me think that this thing may actually be doable, just gotta keep your expectations in check.
 
Well latest batch of 100 devices on IGG have sold out yesterday and judging by comments made on baidu today GPD isn't going to offer any more through it.
I think they opened up and sold 3 additional batches of 100 devices after the campaign ended.
So unless something changes anyone late to the party will have to order from one of the 8 or so third party sellers now.
Just over a Week until Chinese JD backers get their devices and I think some Western testers will get test units around the same time and I know they'll be doing some serious benchmarks and tests.
 
Man, saw the bump and thought it was an update about the ship date. I am looking forward to screwing around with it.

I am hoping the Vega+ handheld ships around the same time

capacity is 20G reset the PC version of Final Fantasy 10 HD, very smooth almost no Caton. But have Tucao, the charging battery when it is too hot, sometimes unexplained fever will stand down fast. But basically have been very satisfied, ff10 on pc before playing a long really do not want to change again on psv, the effect is like running gpd.

Not too surprised, PS2 emulation is still quirky and one game could run amazing and then another awful on the same device.
For those of you who intend to emulate you'll probably need to play around with settings to see if you can get stuff running well.

I remember emulating PS2 on my brothers crappy laptop a long time ago just fine

But it does vary wildly based on the game and the settings

Hopefully it can be done
 
First games I'm trying on PCSX2 are Shinobi, Super Dragon Ball Z, and Gungrave. On my older laptop, those ran fairly well compared with most others. Not expecting a portable PS2 or Gamecube/Wii but certain games should run well.

I think these are old videos. Maybe not even on x7 8700. And so, not even the fan version x7 8750, which offer a lot more performances.
 
Ah the RE6 video is a month old, I misread the date as being new.
WoW video is new at least and the MHOL video was posted on Tieba today as well.
