PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

I´d say: OG is Trunks when killed Frieza. Pro is like SS Ascended that kicked the ass of 2nd Form Cell. I mean stronger, but on the same league (generation). SS 2 would be like a new generation, because is a completely newer state.

Yeah, this is exactly what I meant! XD good show good show.

Come on GAF the 310W is not what it will use! My PC has a 550W PSU and it is using ~25W right now.

Sony always have a big overhead on their PSUs even compared to Microsoft.

Looks like they went for the minimal upgrade option to still call this a new iteration of PS4 and not a revision.

Dr. Durante, it seems you were right about the 60 fps dream. But the Battlefield guy did talk about improving resolution in Battlefield 1 at launch. it runs at 900p 60 fps on OG PS4. Can they hit 1080p 60 fps on this Neo with this slightly improved Jaguar?
Resolution increases are completely independent of CPU performance, so sure, absolutely.

But not because of the slightly improved Jaguar, but because of the significantly improved GPU.

It sounds around the power level of a RX 470, so probably not any proper next-gen games that are demanding, unless settings are lowered compared to the 1080p PS4 original. I'm interested in the prospect of "temporal 4k" though, or w/e it is people are talking about in regards to scaling up the resolution.

Reference RX 470 is 4.9 TFLOPS, though. So, this is not even that.

Why aren't they getting shit for misleading?

The missing pixels are FILLED IN so it's OK!
To be fair iirc they never said games are rendered in 4K

Edit -

Thanks martino

Well, it is only $399.99 so that's good. The 1TB base PS4 is usually $50 more than the the 500GB model right? Soo all the upgrades kinda equate to only $50 more. Tryin to be positive here.

its really looking like sony is using this as a ps4 while MS is looking more into next gen with their box.

I guess we shouldn't look into this being much more than a sligthly souped up ps4 and that is what sony aimed for it while MS was aiming in a whole different way.

This was sonys idea, soup up the ps4 but have it be ps4. I think the case is closed on that and we will have to wait for scorpio and ps5 to get new hardware advances.

And I remember someone here expecting Sony to deliver native 4K gaming for $400 lol.

Price is great for what it is and I'm all behind it.

Yeah, I think once the outrage dies down that people are going to be seeing this device for what it is instead of acting like we're all UHD connoisseurs that only buy physical discs.

399$ is the perfect price for this thing. Glad they were able to nail that.

So the only native, non compressed 4k content on this thing will be the menu?

They should really have positioned it as a premium playstation vr edition.

This sounds more like a stop gap for the next generation cycle, and so do Scorpio now that I think of it. I think I'll wait until then.

I thought this was always the case. The Neo was always meant to be a "supped up" PS4 while the Scorpio is a truer next gen leap.

So maybe it's my own ignorance...or maybe I just don't care as much as I once did... but I'm not sure the incentive is there for me to buy this. I have a PS4, I have a decent, though not god tier TV and I typically don't have issues with the performance of most games on the hardware. Could it be better? Sure, but nothing I've bought for my system has been unplayable.

I dunno, I'm very cool on this whole iterative hardware thing we're getting into with consoles. While I bought my ps4 day one, I think I'll wait to see how these specs are actually utilized before I decide to double down on ps4 hardware.

But you guys still want games on discs.

Movies? Eh let's stream that shit.

What is it?

How is this upto 310 Watts? Based on the revealed spec it should max out at no more than 200 Watts so what is drawing the extra power?

An 8GB rx480 @1266MHz consumes 150watts and the jaguar CPU + HDD + wifi + other stuff is all very low power so what is pulling the extra 100 or so Watts?

Reference RX 470 is 4.9 TFLOPS, though. So, this is not even that.

The Pro does have the extra shaders to work with too, for whatever that is worth. I know performance between the 480 / 470 isn't usually all that big, but I think they scale more with clock speed, so maybe this underclocked GPU would be below the 470.

You can have a $200 UHD dedicated player if you're interested in movies. Will read UHD blu-rays way better that than the Xbox One S...

No you cant. The cheapest standalone 4k UHD player is on sale this week at Best Buy for $319.99. It is normally $399.99, it is the Samsung UHD player. And WTF are you talking about a standalone reading the UHD disk better than the "S"??? I have the Samsung UHD player and the "S" and quality of playback is exactly the same. It just seems you are talking out of your ass man. If you want to say something like this, at least get your facts straight so you don't look like an ass.

I think some of us were thinking they would change the components and parts after the scorpio leaks an annoucements.

Seems they were just too far along but if it was MS in the reverse they would have scrapped it and did it imo

Would have pushed them into march and they had too many plans and seems they wanted that extra cod push

MS announcement of the Scorpio was pretty brilliant in hindsight. Really messed up the expectations of the PS4 Pro.
