PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

I'd imagine the very minor CPU overclock won't allow for many 30 fps games to just jump to 60 fps in 1080p mode. I'd imagine they use the extra GPU power for effects or downsampling or some other AA option.

I really thought I was gonna be preordering this but between it being underwhelming on paper and the PSN hack nonsense there's a good chance I just grab a *1070 for the same money.

I will cry if we get another one of these.

The Xbone S looks better and better.

An actual 4k UHD Blu-ray player with low power consumption to boot.

Sony done messed this one up.
if you don't game then yeah an Xbox one s would make sense, if you do game then you would not go near a Xbox s.

So no native 4K gaming and no support for 4K blu rays? Why the hell even focus on 4K tv's so much?

I look forward to a new thread in a few hours saying how the HDR isn't really proper HDR but the same HDR we've had in stuff since the Lost Coast HL2 demo thing.

Because people keep coming up with the 60fps-patch-wishes I have to ask:

Can this machine even make games run on 1080p/60fps if they were previously running on 1080p/30fps without sacrificing graphical fidelity?

That will completely depend on the game. You cannot know how much headroom a game that is locked to 30fps on standard PS4 has.

Aside for the UHD drive which is a decent misstep... The Pro is a more powerful console and multiplat games will be a better experience on it compared to the S.

Even the standard or slim PS4 still has that advantage over the One S.

Wake me up when most xb1 games are 1080, sub 1080p is not in the race.

Xb1 S is a travesty and not much better than Xb1

When is scorpio out, we need a zen console from someone to do 60 FPS locked at 1080.

Apparently there's some notable tweaks besides the increase in gpu and cpu mentioned in the interviews that made 4K possible? Maybe i misunderstood but the guy did say that.

Well...the next year is going to be very interesting indeed. I said this on twitter but anyone else notice that they didn't talk about their specs during the Meeting? They knew that 4.2 < 6 TFLOPS wouldn't be good marketing. Smart on them.

Agreed, talking power wasn't something to lean, just talk about games and experiences. That is what matters.

Expected in terms of specs and lowered expectations. But..i'm still really surprised...they aren't going for 14/16nm, hence huge power output, and apparently the GPU only uses some of Polaris's architecture? And no support for 4KBR? Will it even support UHD discs??

I'm assuming they wanted it for 399...but that price differential between the slim and the pro is too small

Good lord that power consumption. I already have to deal with a jet engine launch PS4 as it is, I sincerely was hope this isnt as anywhere near as loud.

Depends what you're in to.

The Pro has 4 times the juice as the Xbox One S for 100 bucks more.

No competition whatsoever from my point if view.

802.11ac FINALLY! That and a confirmation of 60fps lock is good enough for me.

Where is that confirmation? Because I doubt two things:

- It's capable of native 4K in most games. I'm guessing it will render 1440p with better effects and upscale.

- 60 fps in games. They have been adamant on better visuales, not better performance, during the conference. The focus has been 4K when I doubt the specs can get that powerful (native 4K rendering).

I'm wondering, would it even be possible for a game to perform worse in 4K mode with more bells and whistles than a original PS4 game in just 1080p with less fx and worse shadows and shit?

310 watts - isn't that more than the PS3 fat? I get that the PS3 Fat had a 90nm GPU and CPU, but I wonder how toasty and audible the PS4 Pro gets.

No last minute spec bumps? I'm positively flabbergasted.

Dr. Durante, it seems you were right about the 60 fps dream. But the Battlefield guy did talk about improving resolution in Battlefield 1 at launch. it runs at 900p 60 fps on OG PS4. Can they hit 1080p 60 fps on this Neo with this slightly improved Jaguar?

It's sad that there was no mention of 60 fps in this conference. No patch for Uncharted 4 to run at 60 fps, no talk about Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3 running at 60 fps.

Is there any hope for 60 fps or should i just go on meds again?
