PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

going to be interesting to see what games can be driven at 4k on a 4.2tf gpu

Yup,
I guess it's not impossible. When using the same textures, games don't need a huge CPU boost or streaming bandwidth, but how a 2.3x GPU boost will apparently produce an image 4x the resolution on PS4 games withouth developers sacrificing other forms of visual fidelity is a bit confounding.

I'm assuming most of these games are somewhere between 1440p and 4k, with upscaling.

Also assuming this thing basically has a downclocked RX480 inside with the same poor, but slightly overclocked CPU, this this is a solid piece of hardware, but far from a 4K beast.

No last minute spec bumps? I'm positively flabbergasted.

Agreed, but considering it's releasing this Holiday, the meager specs make sense. I'm surprised Sony will apparently be so willing give up it's power lead though. I imagine their modus operandi was profit before power for the Pro. That conference didn't remind me of the same Sony from PS4 launch.

310 watts - isn't that more than the PS3 fat? I get that the PS3 Fat had a 90nm GPU and CPU, but I wonder how toasty and audible the PS4 Pro gets.

It can't be any louder than my current PS4. If it is, I'll be getting the Police knocking on my door with noise complaints.

It's supposedly Temporal 4K

Take that as you will as we had this topic on GAF already

That being said as someone who has a 4K TV I'm gonna pass. My TV upscales content really well, and the difference isn't worth $400 to me.

Rather spend my tech allowance else where honestly.

Dr. Durante, it seems you were right about the 60 fps dream. But the Battlefield guy did talk about improving resolution in Battlefield 1 at launch. it runs at 900p 60 fps on OG PS4. Can they hit 1080p 60 fps on this Neo with this slightly improved Jaguar?

It's sad that there was no mention of 60 fps in this conference. No patch for Uncharted 4 to run at 60 fps, no talk about Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3 running at 60 fps.

Is there any hope for 60 fps or should i just go on meds again?

PC is waiting to take you in its loving, smooth, embrace.

Og is ss1 trunks ps4 pro is ss2 trunks. Not as powerful as ss2 Gohan but the potential is there.

I´d say: OG is Trunks when killed Frieza. Pro is like SS Ascended that kicked the ass of 2nd Form Cell. I mean stronger, but on the same league (generation). SS 2 would be like a new generation, because is a completely newer state.

Sooo... PS4 Pro 2 out next year?

I'm guessing next year about when Scorpio launches, better floops to keep being best machine, release winter 2018/2019 or spring 19. That I could buy, if I have a 4K tv by then. Not ps4pro for now.

Oh btw, what's the power of current ps4 GPU compared to Pro?

No RAM increase from OG PS4?

Actually it doesn't even list the 512 MB of DDR3 in the OG PS4 for the low-power processor but we can assume that's back.

Since when do people care about the power consumption? It is a lot for a console, yes, but the consumer won't care in the end.

Yeah, the power consumption is fine. Non-issue.

Seems like kind of a waste. The spec bump isn't that huge, and no 4k blu.

More than doubling the output on the GPU with an overclocked CPU with double the size of the HDD is pretty much the value that the 100 dollar price differential gets you. The Slim is 299 and the Pro is 399.

It's really only a waste if the performance delta didn't equal the cost delta between the two. And I think it does.

Personally, since money isn't really an issue for me. I would have rather had a 5TF machine, with a better CPU at 499. But I don't represent the general consumer at that particular price range.

I'll get the Pro for sure. I'll probably donate my OG PS4 to charity or something.

You know those jets that sometimes fly by and get really loud af? That's my ps4 right now.

If ps4 pro is louder than the current one we're going to have those jets flying by like right on top of our rooftops lol.

Specs are in-line with my expectations (Dare I ask what the the insiders have to say?).

I don't know why they list the 310W as maximum power consumption? It is the rated output !

Really annoys me. PS4 had a 250W PSU and used 150W at launch.
Oh good point DF it is.

Depends what you're in to.

The Pro has 4 times the juice as the Xbox One S for 100 bucks more.

No competition whatsoever from my point if view.

This is the end equation. The Xbox One S might sell to the handful of people invested in physical 4K Blu-Ray, but on paper it doesn't even hold a candle to the value proposition of the PS4 Pro.

So it's not 4k.

So does it downsample to 1080p with better framerate and graphics

It sounds around the power level of a RX 470, so probably not any proper next-gen games that are demanding, unless settings are lowered compared to the 1080p PS4 original. I'm interested in the prospect of "temporal 4k" though, or w/e it is people are talking about in regards to scaling up the resolution.

Doesn't look like it.

That is a picture of the slim.

But no power supply is internal.

And I remember someone here expecting Sony to deliver native 4K gaming for $400 lol.

Price is great for what it is and I'm all behind it.
