PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

The 970 will have greater real-world performance(the 970 has similar performance to the 480 at 5.5 TF, so a 20% downclock on that in the ps4k is much worse). The I5 is much much better.

Oh lordy, seeing devs trying to eek out 4k gaming on that GPU (my current GPU) is going to be funny.

I see a lot of people believing they have to have a 4K TV to use this. That seems silly. Why couldn't you use a 1080p TV and still benefit from the performance increase? Surely this thing can output at 1080p and it's not forced to always do 4K output.

The reveal made it sound that way tbh.

I get the front now, it's a heater guys.

You may be confusing the PS4 Pro reveal with the Scorpio reveal.

They made sure to mention a bunch of times during the conference and in the post livestream that you do not need a 4KTV to take advantage of the Pro.

Kinda wonder if part of the real delay of FFXV was to make a Pro patch now...kinda doubt it (since dev lead didn't even know Scorpio & Neo existed) but still.

Speaking to friends who don't consider themselves big gamers, scorpio sounds like a much more attractive proposition even if it's a year away. In the mean time they may ever switch to xbox one s just to get their libraries ready for next year.

When talking PSU, then it has to compared to the PSU.
PS3 first gen was 400 W PSU.

I'm sure that it's 14nmFF or 16nmFF and that the power consumption figure is just the rating of the PSU. I don't know the figures for Sony, but I know that Wii U consumes under 40W despite having a 75W PSU, and the same ls likely happening here.

It's kind of surprising that they aren't explicit that it's the PSU. Google sensei states that OG PS4's PSU has a max rating of 250W (with system drawing between 110-120W during gameplay). If the fab is indeed 16/14nm and efficiency ratings (~48%) are constant then that looks like a significant change in Flops to wattage ratio (28.22GFlops/W against 15.33Gflops/W).

That said, is it possible to see such a significant gain for next gen without smaller fab?

Its 400 dollars .... lol
Do you expect a high end PC? If so just build youself a gaming PC or wait for scorpio which will prob be 600$+
Everyperson who is like oh who cares or I dont care then hey dont buy the system buid youself a gaming PC and BAM you have the best of the best OH and you should replace you graphic card once a year which will cost you 500 and up. GOOD LUCK!

Being a 4K PC gamer, I'm really impressed by the image quality of the Pro's 4K trailers on YouTube, what's going on here then? It looks like some really awesome upscaling going on here, can't be native? Good stuff.

Imagine how bad it would have been had they named it PS4K like many thought they were going to do..

I haven't been following the Scorpio speculation very closely, but since everyone's main gripe seems to be with the under powered CPU in the Pro, do we know what Scorpio is going to have in it CPU-wise?

The Xbox One S is a 1.4TF console.

The PlayStation 4 Pro is a 4.2TF console.

I think you should reconsider your math.

UHD BD adds 5 TFLOPs.

But no, just ignore trolls. At any hardware announcement some folk just go all out nutty. Not even just I have a different opinion, but outright I'm going to post something silly.

I think it really is made for 4k TV owners. The visual improvements seem focused on the 4k output with some other visual refinements over the standard PS4 at a more consistent framerate.

Uh, they had 4 bullet points for Pro and one was better 1080p gaming. Corny talked about upgraded visuals on stage for 1080p.

Why would I be confusing it with the Scorpio reveal? I did not watch the post show but the conference mentioned 4K and HDR so many times most people would assume you need one to use it (I know you don't just saying why people might think that).

I think you mean upsampling, and yes, sure it is.
Most 4k modes are unlikely to be simple upscale based. And while other methods are of course still possible on PC, they're less likely to get used for the same long lists of reasons you don't usually get variable resolutions and other shortcuts in PC titles.

I'd imagine the very minor CPU overclock
While it's not a flat-doubling - the "minor" upclock is enough to go from 60hz applications to 90.

Lack of additional ram makes this thing look like a "stop-gap" more than "future proof".
I'll personally won't be buying the PS 4 S or 4.5 whatever they want to call it. I can hold out until the next upgrade.

True. Seems like the Xbox S is almost as powerful and does more media wise than the new Pro. That's pretty crazy!

TIL that 1/3 as powerful is "almost" as powerful..

PS4 Pro is 3 times as powerful and offers everything the S with 1 TB offers minus a UHD bluray player for only $50 more.. pretty impressive really.

It's called PlayStation Pro, and you sound mad, are you mad?

As long as this can run games at 1080p/60fps I'm happy but will wait to buy one until I start seeing differences.

It was always a stop gap from the very beginning. Ever since House announced it, it was not a new gen.

Considering the cheapest UHD BluRay player on the market costs $300, it's kind of a big deal, yah.

I thought this was common knowledge that it was a stop gap console since it leaked last year

Optical is now a "Pro feature". Oh dear...

Seems my PC with a stock RX480 (5,5 tflops) and an i7 should outdo it easily. And I still don't render games at anything higher than 1440p. (which is probably about what they upscale to 4K from with the PS4P)

I have to say I'd be interested in seeing their upscaling tech, or equivalent, be made available on PC as well with the multiplatform games that support the PS4P.

The original PS4 is still more powerful than the Xbox S, if you have no idea of what you're talking about stop spreading false statements.
