I sometimes don't understand the negativity on stuff like this. When there's all this anxiety in the air and thirst for any information, people look to analysts (you can use air quotes there if you prefer) to shed some light... any light at all. And if they don't know anything definitively, you get educated speculation. That's all they can do. I'm seeing a sentiment of hostility in here and in the other thread that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. There's almost a sense of "hey asshole, if you can't tell me a date when this thing is going to be announced then just admit that you know nothing and shut the fuck up!"

The thing about this though is that it makes it clear that analyst opinions aren't useful for people familiar with a business. It isn't for us.

That's probably true sometimes. Other times it may be clear that they know more than they're letting on and you may be able to glean information by reading between the lines. Even if you assume that they don't really know anything I still don't see any reason for animosity -- to act as though they're wasting our precious time with mere speculation we can arrive at ourselves. I mean, I might be a little angry if the copy of the Wall Street Journal on the newstand teased hot NX scoops and I bought it only to find it's the same boring speculation I've read a 100 times before. But incredulous reactions to innocuous tweets don't strike me as entirely appropriate.

I don't understand it either. It's pathetic.

Lets hope that the French site is correct with there prediction as they did with the ps4pro reveal.

Sony has confirmed the rumours themselves, with an event taking place in New York on September 7th.

As reported yesterday, a French website, Gameblog.fr, was reporting that a reveal event for the PlayStation Neo would be happening in New York on September 7th. They stated the reasoning for the date was that a Nintendo event would be revealing their upcoming NX console on September 12th, and they would want to be beat them to the punch.

This has now been confirmed by Sony themselves, with invitations sent out to a “Future of PlayStation” event, which will be taking place in the PlayStation Theater in New York on September 7th. The event was announced as members of the press received invitations to attend a “PlayStation Meeting” next month.

If this report has turned out to be true, then we can only hope that the reveal for the Nintendo NX on September 12th will also be confirmed.

I don't think it's surprising that people might react to analysts as if they're some personal slight, because that's kind of the whole console speculation game. We're dealing with consumer electronics. We're not entitled to information coming out on any particular schedule, and in fact, the main reason we're upset about the NX taking too long is that we've created the expectation of information and hunting out information ourselves. The reaction to analysts is pretty much the same phenomenon.

They said the week of the 12th, not the 12th specifically.

In any case, given TGS, next week probably isn't happening if we don't get a date today or tomorrow.

Strange to think that this thing will be in shops and homes in less than half a year, and there's barely anything official about it yet. I'd love to see just how airtight those NDAs are in regards to consequences.

September 12th is so near!

Lately, each time gameblog has talk about nx in videos, they didn't mentionned any supposed reveal date, quite the contrary as they're lost too on the matter.

So either later today or tomorrow for an announcement are the last chances of having this thing to be revealed this month....PLEASE BE TRUE! I cannot wait any longer, seriously :(

Besides, Miyamoto appeared on the Apple Event yesterday... it could make sense a reveal next week now that Miyamoto is currently on the US!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Well, it was Nico who mentioned it a while ago, who isn't properly part of the Gameblog.fr staff, correct?

Same boat. The apple Mario thing yesterday was a slight reprieve.

Hm, why would that be the last chance for this month? There are still plenty of days after TGS.

Miyamoto doesn't have to be in the US for the NX reveal. What I think could be happening is interviews that get released post NX announcement.

No, I'm talking about september 12 that's getting brought back, since that line in their ps event news, they don't brag about it like always when they think they have info.

It would be good if developers could start talk about their upcoming software on TGS, sure they can do it after but that doesn't make much sense

Definitely true. My point was more that if it's not before TGS anyway, the next opportunity is after TGS but still in September, rather than jumping directly to October.

Ah, right. You already said it was more a prediction than an actual "leak" back when I made the recollection post of hints / stuff on the reveal date.

I'm not defending the animosity as much as I'm explaining why it exists. At any rate, it's clear that the analysts don't know anything at this time, and they seemingly never do when it comes to Nintendo.

Perhaps, but at the same time September is the end of the quarter and they might prefer to announce it at the beginning of the quarter if they're not going to make TGS anyway.

Gonna visit friends in another state from the 13th to the 18th. They're big Nintendo fans so it'd be amazing if Nintendo confirmed a NX Direct/Press Conference will happen within those days.

Looking less and less likely with each passing day, but hope dies last! Crossing fingers for a reveal today, and if not...

...Well...the first Smash Bros Direct was announced on a Friday...

Sir you perfectly described what I do every day.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. Any reason they might prefer to do that?

Maybe to start the new quarter with hype and publicity. Though, I think that wanting a month between the 3DS direct and an NX announcement. Personally, I think that either a direct will happen this coming Wednesday or an event will happen on October 4th.

Gotcha, thanks. Well, we shall see soon enough!

September 12 would be a great day, because that is a my birthday.

crushing disappointments are doubly bittersweet on birthdays

If a reveal is September 12th wouldn't they have to announce that tonight? Maybe some of us want to make sure we're not at work to watch their presentation?

Wednesday is the latest they can do a reveal for next week.

So people are already talking delay in here if it moves to October?

You do realize there isn't a huge difference between late September and October, right? 5 months is still plenty of time to market.

I don't see the 12th (Monday) being realistic, unless they literally announce it's happening today.

Right now I think post-TGS makes the most sense. A press conference just makes sense for a big new hardware announcement like this, and that requires proper advance warning for the press. It's possible they could just spring an out of nowhere Direct but I really don't see that happening this time.

Maybe we'd get a Direct simultaneously with a Press Conference (which we don't see) but there would still be a Press Conference.

People want it to be Pre-TGS because that allows devs to announce games for it there, but devs can announce games for it whenever they want. Including a Nintendo-specific announcement event where they wheel out each dev on stage to talk about what they're bringing to the system.

3DS Direct was announced only a day and a half in advance, wasn't it?

Afaik, two weeks of notice is common for Nintendo when speaking to members of the press. It's entirely possible the reveal makes it for September.

It's also possible there is no press event and it's just a direct and we will get an announcement two days or so before the actual direct and then press will fly down for impressions.

It was exactly 48 hours in advance.

Yeah, there's too many scenarios which can play out.

You do realize there isn't a huge difference between late September and October, right? 5 months is still plenty of time to market.

Xbox One was revealed on May 21, 2013 and released on November 22, 2013. Six months and one day.

Xbox 360 was revealed on May 12, 2005. It was released on November 22, 2005. Six months and 10 days later.

Nintendo DS was revealed on May 11, 2004. It was released on November 21, 2004. Seven months and 10 days later.

This is hardly unprecedented. Albeit, a little backward in terms of timing. It's usually spring reveal, fall release not fall reveal, spring release.

Right, and one month won't make a huge difference in 2016-2017 when the Internet is available to transmit information and advertising instantly.

First report was they were planning a September reveal, and second report was it was ahead of schedule. It was also delayed from this spring if early accounts are to be believed.
