this episode was so fucking random but cute.

I like it.

A lot of these summer episodes are great at referencing other media and playing on other tropes.

Episode reminded me of Scott Pilgrim. Loved it! I lol'ed at the wingman comment.

Yeah I totally got this vibe too.
Mystery Girl
totally had a Ramona-like aura about her.

Great ep. With more character development like this, maybe Pearl won't be worst gem after all!

Great ep and it's probably gonna grow on me even more on subsequent viewings. Loved the whole 80s, coming-of-age teenage movie vibe.

Every time I think I've got a handle on what Cartoon Network will allow the Crewniverse to do, they push it back further. How heavily will this one end up being altered for other markets do we reckon?

Lovely episode- so wonderful to see another side to Pearl, and her working her way towards chatting to the Mysterious Woman was very sweet. I hope she sticks around, and this turns into a long-running character arc.

There is literally nothing you can do besides not air the episode.

I'm pretty sure this is why Russia has been obliterated in-universe.

Pearl gets her groove back.
pretty much, yeah.

I see people keep commenting about how "OOC" Pearl is here when really it's been established through out the series that Pearl use to be a well known bad ass renegade. Hell, she even sings about it in Mr Greg (the episode where she makes it clear she's gonna take steps to move on and was finally able to have a 1 on 1 with Greg). She sings about how she feels duller now ... and now she's playing the part of "repressed nerd" which makes sense lol

She's trying to get those qualities back as she moves forward. Steven and Amy never saw that side to Pearl but it's been shown and talked about in the past.

One day they are going to pair a gem with a human male ala rosexgreg and the fandom is going to lose its collective shit.

Cute episode. Looking forward to see Pearl moving getting her confidence back.

Also, did anyone else feel like Pearl only went along to one up greg? I know they've started to patch things up, but it still seems like something she might do.

Nope.

She did it because Amy was making it seem like Pearl's Steven time was boring and she wanted to show both Amy and Steven that she's actually cool (or at least she use to be).

She said so in the episode O_o

Pearl has a surprisingly emotional line in this episode when she says "I was so ready!" after they run out of gas and start walking. She had been thinking about finally branching out and being a more open person for a while now, and that says a lot. She's the one who suggests that she and Steven go with Amethyst to the show. She wants to change, to stop being a dull sad sack, to grow, to move on, and she thought she finally had her chance with this rock show. And she blew it (or so she thought).

It's some really good development. She's very different from the complete wreck she was in Rose's Scabbard, but her character has progressed logically.

Man, remember when we expected this episode to be about some apocalyptic event instead of
Pearl trying to get laid? I hope we see Mystery Woman again, too; this has to be the start of a side-arc, right?

Petition to call mystery girl Punk Diamond

Request denied, if only to discourage "she's really a ____" type musings

We know her name starts with an S, but that's it. I figure, if she's to be referenced in future episodes, that they'll either give us her name in full quickly or tease it slowly over several episodes... as they tend to do with things.

Mystery Woman could be Pearl's version of Sex & the City's 'Mr. Big' where they don't reveal her name until the movie when it's casually shown on Pearl's cell phone.

Also yeah, girl needs a cell phone, Steven needs to hook his gem mom up now that she has someone to call.

This was definitely in my top 5 eps and may be my favorite Pearl centered episode.

Normally hate filler episodes and don't care for Pearl at all but this episode was super cute and Pearl was rad.

I hope she and the pink girl hook up. (but i guess they never have to because .... fans)

Also liked the SU creative team cameo at the party.

I like dorky Pearl
I like Pearl trying to grow on her own terms
This episode was fucking great. When Pearl popped her collar I said "I can't believe this is happening." Then pink hair walked in. Oh my days.

My sister watched with me during halftime of the Broncos Panthers game, and at the end she goes "Woah, they got lesbians on Cartoon Network now? That's cool"

Secret best line of the episode is revealed after a rewatch: "I just wanted to see your Krol."

more importantly, steven could call in some political favors with the mayor and get ids for the gems

Pearl not having an ID or a driver's license (but apparently looked into the legal process enough to actually try and get a driver's license at one point) as well as our first real appearance of cops (outside of DUMB POLICE in Cat Fingers) single-handedly made or broke hundreds of fan theories.

It was pretty damn funny hearing Pearl outright say she wasn't exactly a citizen.

I think I've let go of my theory that SU takes place in a post-post-apocalypse world, but I'm pretty set on the lack of real centralized power in America.

First the show is anti-traditional family, then pro-gay, now it's Immigration reform propaganda! Really glad it's going under the radar of all the reactionary organizations

I've considered it an alternative Earth where the Gem invasion has had a butterfly effect which changed a lot of superficial things, but where society isn't all that different. Empire City isn't much different from New York apart from the skyline.
