Final Fantasy XV TGS 2016 Trailer

Here's a thing, based on everything they've shown us, can you possibly see her ever getting into conflict or disagreeing with Noctis on anything? That's the difference, we've seen the guys get conflicted multiple times but she seems borderline obsessed with the dude.
We haven't seen Noctis & Luna together (other than the scene with both of them as children), so it's hard to really say what their chemistry/behaviour will be like when they are together. I'm not sure if Luna is obsessed with Noctis as much as she's obsessed with them both filling their roles as the Oracle & "True King" who battle the darkness that is seemingly going to devour the world if things keep progressing like they've been progressing.

I don't think anyone here is explicitly saying this. The problem with Luna is she's a generic princess whose purpose is to further the main male character Noctis and right now it doesn't look like there's much beyond that. On top of that, all of the external claims of "strong female character" have really backfired with what we saw in Kingsglaive so it's not hard to see why people are questioning it.
And we also haven't seen her interact with Noctis at all. It's just speeches or private conversations about the king, the king and the king. It's as if she has been brainwashed her entire life to only care about Noctis/ the future king's mission, and It's hard to imagine both having a natural conversation once they finally meet face-to-face (especially when her dialogue has been highly idealized and artificial).

Whoever keeps cutting the XV trailers is doing a terrible job.

Actually the trailer did a really good job outlining the basic plot, showing primary characters and gameplay, not everyone is like you who knows everything about this game already.

Do you think if you repeat something often enough, it becomes true?

I'm not sure what that means, but i know that Versus didn't come out for almost a decade, and Tabata was brought in to salvage whatever was left.
Now Tabata will get shat on if the game doesn't live up to some standards, but apparently Nomura is the genius that just wasn't given enough rope to work with? Cult of personality for Nomura is what i'd call it.

As soon as I find this in game, I'm buying it. That looks fresh.

You need to buy something from that site to get the download code. Ranging from 35 dollar handkerchiefs to 2 thousand dollar watches!

The reason I don't buy that the field segments is base PS4 pootage is because the improvements look far too substantial. So many elements look better and it seems unrealistic to see so much change in just a month....

Hmm. Never had a game tossing me between "never I'm going to play this" to "f yeah, this game is the best" like FFXV.

You two are no less picking and choosing your own favored narrative. Do remember that the first time Luna was presented, she was a sitting pretty girl, and it wasn't until backlash that we suddenly have unrealistic gun-pushing scene (as if all the soldiers would lower all their guns just because she pushed one out of her face!) and Leviathan.

Oh, it's so great for a female character to be so determined to help the main male character, you know, other than perhaps standing up against Leviathan for reasons unrelated to super special Noctis.

In the context of the scene, the focus is on Ardyn, without you seeing Luna's face. What that means is Luna took a slap to serve to make Ardyn look more evil. What year is it, that writing scenes with female characters as props to characterize male characters could be excused?

You say that female characters that go around kicking butt are not unique, but name one heroine that doesn't have a shitty male-oriented visual design and isn't plagued by some obligatory romantic subplot? The west is making progress on this front, with their Mirror's Edges and Horizon Zero Dawns. When we ask for better female characters, we are not merely asking for physicality, we are asking for a female character that isn't just a tool being pushed around by all the other male characters. Luna by all means does not fit the bill nor can you excuse that by saying "check out this one scene with Leviathan". As a male you can be satisfied by a crappy little bit of lip service; as a female I am no longer going to tolerate it.

THANK YOU.

It's telling that all the others telling people to back up off Luna haven't touched your post. They got their "articulation" and are no where to be seen.

No idea if it's Pro footage or not, but game development doesn't result in linear improvements. In some cases 80% of the work can look 20% finished to an audience, while the remaining 20% of work propels it visually.

I get that, but they have to portray her as human too. Like, we know that Noctis really hates vegetables and sleeps a lot, and likes fishing, and a whole lot of other miscellaneous information.

People just want another Lightning.
There's a really large spectrum between Lightning and Luna...

That was the impression I got from Kingsglaive as well, she seems to only really care about fulfilling her "destiny" or whatever

There was no "salvaging" going on. SQEX made the decision to move Versus/XV to the current gen because the project had been delayed due to FFXIII & XIV shenanigans for so long and because they felt they could achive more of what they wanted to achieve with FFXV on PS4 level hardware instead of rushing out a PS3 game 8-9 years into the generation that would have severely impacted what they could do, technically, with the game. They used the move to PS4Bone to reassess what they wanted to do with the project, at which point it was somewhat rebooted and it turned from a potential multi-game Versus Saga directed by Nomura into a single game (+ some accompanying pieces) Final Fantasy XV directed by Tabata.

Nomura was removed from the project because he had already spent a better part of 10 years on the project and he had more important things to focus on (like finally getting around to starting up KHIII's development + surprisingly being put to direct FFVII Remake). If Versus XIII was in such a bad shape because Nomura can't do anything that Nomura needed to be forcibly removed and someone else taken in to "save" the project, why on Earth would SQEX then put Nomura in charge of what is probably one of their most important projects EVER, FFVII Remake? Nah, it was just business politics. Nomura is one of the single most important people working at SQEX nowadays. It just didn't make sense to SQEX to tie Nomura to FFXV for a further 3-4 years when they moved to this generation.

Found this on twitter.

Gonna have Noctis wearing the fuck out of this.

If only we could have had that Yakuza style FF

I would hype how good FFXV looks here but I'm too busy to go and play Persona 5 right now.

At least there's another big game to wait after I finish it :p

I dont' think Nomura is incompetent, just like i don't think Ueda is incompetent, for having Last Guardian go on for so long, but i do think he likely bit off way more than he could chew, and when Tabata was brought in to wrap things up with X amount of money, and X amount of time, he didn't have the creative luxury that Nomura probably had at the start of Versus, and he was forced to cut and patch things back together.
Entering on someone else's project to close it off in a couple of years, with then the expectations from the company for it to be the biggest thing they've ever done, as well as all the die hard Nomura fans combing every minor change you make, it's not an enviable position to be in.
That's why i'm more willing to cut some slack to Tabata.
I'm not trying to throw Nomura under the bus either, but Versus never came out, and whether it was going to be good or not is just fan speculation and daydreaming, not unlike Jodorowsky's Dune being the best film never made, or Leone's Leningrad's being the greast epic of all time.

It's just unfair to compare the reality of a game dealing with time, budget and all that practical stuff, to the idealistic picture of a game you have in your head, based on a couple of trailers and some info on paper.

"only" 35$ is still waaaaaaay too much though

goddamnit square, WHY

Yeah I know how you feel lol. That handkerchief is more than half the game lol and shipping costs would probably bring it up to the actual full price of the game.

It's just square being square lol.

It's a bit sad for me when you realize that they timed Brotherhood perfectly to fall in line with the September release. But at least this delay is proving to be quite the game changer. It's going to be a very long 2 months.

Er yes I can, actually from trailer etc, Noctis seems like the one with weaker personality, his good trait is that he's kind and caring, but he's also depicted as lazy, whiny about his dad, not sure what to do, even gladiolus got sick oh noctis from this trailer.

On the other hand, while Luna cant fight at all in kingsglaive, she's shown to be more stronger personality, she didn't whine at all, she's prepared to
use the ring potentially killing herself, and she's cunning enough to trick that 1 kingsglaive to put the ring and killed himself
,I fully expect that when noctis and luna meet, Luna will be the one telling Noctis what to do, even when they're kids, Luna is the one teaching Noctis and telling him stuff.

Luna is going to be the fish out of water girl, her interactions with the group will be hilarious 😀
Think like Elizabeth in BI

Personal opinion so take as such. World desing looks awesome, but to me having to play with male characters only looks boring. Would've liked to se more character diversity. All of them look like the same but different age. Not liking it unfortunately. Huge fan of some FF entries btw.

There will be guest characters like Cor (older serious guy) and Iris (younger kawaii chick).

Tabata should take a look at Aqua.
That's how you make a strong female character.

Maybe it was just me completely uninterested and ignorant in the unnecessarily convoluted story-telling of the KH series, but I don't get the appeal of Aqua in the fandom. Yes she has great character design, decent voice work and acting, she is physically strong and fights, but what actually separates her from Lightning or even Lara Croft from Tomb Raider reboot?

The good voice work is debatable even....
All Aqua really does got me is remind me of other women from manga.

By now I think there might just be footage of different versions (base consoles, Pro, development environment PC) and different builds in the trailer. Some footage looks as bad as ever with terrible hair aliasing. For example the Galdin Quay part which everyone yesterday thought was Pro footage and was analysing next to the 50 minutes gameplay video, lol.

I really have to laugh at that by now. XD If that jagged mess and bad IQ is already is the Pro version...uh-oh...

However some scenes did look really pretty and clean. For example the cutscenes where Luna brushed away the soldiers' guns and the scene towards the very end of the trailer where Noctis grabs the sword. No jaggies anywhere and pretty lighting, even if not up to par with what we've seen months before.

The two scenes of running/chocobo riding in the lush Duscaen landscape also looked pretty...but I am not sure if it is really Pro footage. That too would be a disappointment imo. The only thing really pretty there is actually the grass and how colorful/saturated everything is. The grass density and LOD isn't even that great actually. Other open-world games do manage more on PS4 (The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn) and even Episode Duscae did.
Also, there is still hardly any anisotropic filtering. Just look at that wall to the right of Noctis:

At the very right edge of the image you can also see the shadows vanishing into a blurry mess not too far away.
Last but not least image quality doesn't look improved from what we saw of the base console versions in the recent gameplay videos. This is no 1080p with smooth antialiasing as some sources described the Pro version.
I don't know, with the promised optimization I totally think something like this should be possible on the regular PS4. For PS4 Pro settings on high to ultra this would look rather underwhelming.

Well this is the spoiliriest thing they've shown yet

Yeah, those spoilers are that much more true after this with
him being the end boss.
Unsuprising, but disappointing depending on how much else from the leaks are true because of that.
