Pence did what the GOP has to do now to survive- dodge, deflect, admonish any use of facts or evidence and instead play to people's emotions. That's all Pence did tonight, and he was unwilling to take seriously a number of very serious statements that Trump has made, including a suggestion that it would be a good thing if there were more nukes in more countries and not even minding if they used them on each other.
A lot of people miss this.

Take his insane late-night rant. How are you "unbiased" toward reporting on it? Do you start "reporting" on the fact that Clinton was sleeping at the time and giving that riveting observation exactly equal air time?

The more I think about it the more I think Clinton/Kaine came out ahead, but Pence definitely held his own and probably won the debate in a traditional sense. I think Kaine did a great job proving Trump was indefensible, which is what the Clinton campaign wanted, but Pence did well enough holding his own that he came off as the top tier Conservative Candidate for 2020 or 2024.
The liberal in me sees Pence is reprehensible, but I have to admit his composure was a strange contrast to Kaine's enthusiasm. It's funny, basically the exact opposite of Trump/Clinton, where the Democrat was generally waiting their turn and polished, but the Republican was shouting over and interrupting. It's like they flipped roles entirely for the VP debate. I still think increasingly that Kaine succeeded in every way he wanted to by focusing his attacks on Trump, and Pence's affiliation and support of Trump. It should hurt the GOP this cycle, but Pence did a great job holding his own and seeming like a well polished traditional Conservative Republican.

This shit boggles me. Pence is so extreme to the right that I wouldn't even expect Trump to embrace all of his policy positions.
Unless you're completely blind to substance, why would anyone think Pence is somehow more palatable?
Listening to people say Pence won handily because of style, calmness, not rebutting. I think had Kaine just stood there with a smile on his face for 90 minutes and said nothing he would have won them over. What matters in politics these days I guess. Who needs substance like policies and facts?
I wouldn't hold my breath.
Trump had a terrible week. Pivoting the narrative and making it a horse race again is good for bussiness.
They'll ignore the fact checking and substance for style.

In terms of No LGBT Rights - I don't agree with his stance on same sex marriage. But I haven't ever agreed with 100% of a politicians policies. I doubt that I am in the minority.
Its the same way that I think Hillary's stance on raising the national minimum wage is a bad idea but I will still be voting for her.

Sanity is leaning against Trump. Even FOX news has trouble defending Trump sometimes. I would agree that CNN isn't that great, but saying that they are biased because they fact check is a stretch.
Looked, seemed, felt like.
The real travesty is how these things can hold more weight for a lot of people than facts and substance.

Kaine reminded me of when I would get an essay prompt I was way over prepared for. Just an explosion of ideas from the offing without much consideration for structure or sequence. That's what hurt him. He clearly had a mastery of the substance. Ah well what can you do. It's a good thing no one gives a fuck about this. And good thing queen is controlled as hell.

All I'm pointing out is this: Candidate A is saying more lies, more often than Candidate B. By sheer proportion of news-worthy statements, Candidate A is going to get more airtime. By sheer proportion of amount of lies, Candidate A's statements will get more scrutiny. If we for some bizarre reason ignore the proportion and instead focus entirely on giving exactly equal air time, you're actively suppressing coverage of Candidate A's statements. That's not in the least bit "unbiased".
