Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

Who at Nintendo is coming up with the names of these systems? Switch. SWITCH? Fucking Nintendo GO would have been a better choice.

That said the system looks sleek, I love the Devs/Pub support (if they actually support it this time) and the portable multi-player aspect looks especially intriguing.

Anything over $299 though and this system will bomb. Price point is huge. In fact $250 entry cost would be PERFECT, and I can't imagine this costs a lot to manufacture.

Post trailer Hype level = 7/10

I was mostly impressed by the controllers acting wireless in tablet mode but overall it's not that appealing to me but more appealing that I expected.

And that name, they want you to switch from other brands :D

This!

This is the thing I've wanted since I was a kid an purchased a battery and clip on screen for my PSone.

I'll be playing Skyrim and Zelda nonstop at work.

I love the idea of being able to play Nintendo games with that visual quality on a handheld. This will be amazing for when my wife is using the main TV. To he honest I don't really care all that much about the big screen / dock for this.

Now just announce achievements Nintendo

It's like the name is telling us something.

Ok, I'm impressed. I think hype fatigue made me cynical because I wasn't expecting to like this. No price yet, right?

I cant believe how hyped i am after a 3min trailer. I was already getting one, but now im 200% in on this Nintendo Switch. I dig the name too. Sorry WiiU, you have been a good friend, but time to move on.

im not getting rid of my WiiU
If I can get Bayo 1/2, Xenoblade X, Mario 3D World, and Pikmin 3 ports/remasters, I'd sell my Wii U today.

These promises from third parties from support are great and all...until you remember this:

In other words....riiiiiight, sure thing guys. I'll be sure to appreciate your six months of software support before you abandon the hardware completely. I'm looking at you EA.

I think this will frankly be a repeat of the Wii U in regards to success in the market. Sony and Microsoft fans are comfortable with their hardware, mobile gamers are satisfied playing their mobile games which means that Nintendo is selling to the same customer base all over again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm purchasing the damn thing because Nintendo's software is basically all I play anymore, but man oh man if I don't miss the Wii U and 3DS already. Sigh.

Nintendo is swearing that this will be a lot easier to develop for and port to, looking at the specs and features I believe them. The Wii U wasn't worth porting to because of the difficulty of doing so. If it's quick and easy, the ports will come.

With Skyrim Remastered (who are we kidding, it's definitely not the 360 version) and Epic amongst the supporting studios, we might be able to receive ports from PS4/XOne relatively easy. That'd be pretty damn amazing, even if the ports all ran at 720p.

I'd see myself buying Doom again for portability or GTAV or whatever comes out in the next few years.

With Epic on board, I hope that Nintendo has solid online infrastructure in place too. They must be able to get F2P games on board, they are a huge part of gaming atm.

That looked awesome. Can't wait.

Hoping (probably in vain) for Nvidia Gamestream compatibility. That would be so perfect.
I really doubt it'll have GameStream support, but boy would it be amazing and would really make PC + Switch a god-tier combo.

Someone could always hack it to support it years from now.

I'm actually really digging this but I'm confused - are these games backwards compatible digital upgrades, new games, etc? Because now that it's clear this is a new system (Yay for no Wii 2.0) now we're unsure of if these are new games or not (Yay, another point of confusion).

I have a lot of digital Wii U games and would like to upgrade.
They looked like "remastered" ports

What's wrong with Switch? Easy. Unique. Coveys the message. Go would tell me you play it on the go. Not at home.

I love it. Just hope the bezzel could be smaller. Hope there's another color other than the one they've shown at launch.

Nintendo will happily take more of your money by forcing you to "re-buy" those games. We all know what's going to happen in terms of digital games/virtual console in this regard.

Brace yourself for having to pay. Even if it is a digital upgrade - and as there's new content, there's like a 1% chance of that - they'll still make you pay. Just assume they're something you'll have to buy again.

One of the things I'm most excited for is that it looks that you can use one of the micro controllers in each hand, like a wiimote + nunchuk.

Why is thus not BC with wii u games again? Disc version I get but it's practically a dang wii u

By this time next year, it'll be 7 months old and we'll have the "where did all the 3rd party support go?" threads

I like the look of it though and being able to play fire emblem on a God damn TV again means I'm in
Architecture being significantly different probably throws a wrench into BC ideas.

I completely agree with Gerstmann. I have no interest in mobility. I see the appeal for others, but I will never play with it detached. On one hand then, those crappy detachable controllers don't matter. On the other, the pro controller finally has the reversed analog stick, so that's good. I don't need the tablet portion -at all-.

Gryo is a pretty normal feature at this point (PS3/PS4/Vita do it too) so I'm guessing it'll have that, though it's not a gimmick anyone's going to center their games around.

I would guess that the deal with the touchscreen is that devs are allowed to use it as an alternative input method but are forbidden from making a game require its use (because obviously that's going to break the game for TV play.)
It has two IMUs -- one in each of the controllers obviously. The only thing left guessing is whether it still a touch screen.

I'd like that to be true, but I doubt it. Either way I'm due for a new Pro controller.
I'll buy a new Pro controller if only because I hate the layout on the Wii U controller, but... why wouldn't it work? Just to push people buying new ones?

Not sure if it was mentioned here, but it seems that Nintendo might be targeting an older more hardcore demographic with Switch judging by the trailer, which they haven't done for at least a decade now.

That means they're competitive with Sony and MS in their market, which is awesome.

Was wondering how you'd be able to do 3DS or Wii U Virtual Console and ports and things like that, and wondering if Nintendo now finally fully completely dropped the dream of games like Four Swords Adventures and Crystal Chronicles.

...but... but what if in order to play 3DS or Wii U games on Switch (hopefully not) or to play games like Four Swords Adventures (more likely, if they make any)... you'd need one Switch to be the main console hooked up to the TV, and then multiple other Switchs in handheld mode linked to it.

What if games that require a touch screen require a second Switch in order to play on the TV? Is that possible?
