It pretty much confirmed what I already knew from Emily and Eurogamer so if rent much of a surprise, but it was nice to see the proof of concept. And I think Nintendo did that perfectly. I even saw myself in the scenario of using Switch on the plane, as I travel quite often and playing a full Zelda or Skyrim or NBA 2k or Mario on the plane really sound like the best way to spend that time.

What surprised me was the design. Finally Nintendo managed to design a cool and modern gadget. Very sleek. Given how bad the mock-ups were, the result is fantastic.

And last point is that this is powered by active cooled Pascal based Tegra which is damn cool for a console that is also mobile. I hope Nvidia will offer the much needed better support for developers who want to work with this.

Can't wait for this to release.

I have SO MANY QUESTIONS oh my...

Can the tablet stream to the tv? or does it NEED to be on the dock? If its the latter, then i guess not WiiU backwards compatible since tons of games uses BOTH tv and gamepad screen. (they had splatoon on the trailer being played on a single screen for instance)

Also the "dock" obviously houses tons of hardware...it being bigger than the "console" itself... is it really possible we get an upgraded version of what we're playing on the portable module as soon as we dock it?

Don't want to be a party pooper but I'm really worried at the video on 0:39. The framerate while the guy is playing BOTW on the park looks atrocious :( Like 10 fps or maybe less. Hope it was just the video and that the final product can run smoothly : /

Yeah, this is easily the biggest black mark on an otherwise excellent trailer. No idea how Nintendo allowed it to be shown in that state, and I can only hope that doesn't represent the performance of the final NX version.

stupid question: I can't tell if the portable system - with the pads included - is horizontally longer or not than the WiiU gamepad...

(Post got lost on end of previous page so let me try again...)

Is there anything stopping Nintendo from having a home console only version of the Nintendo Switch?
No, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them offer a home-only version later, but definitively not at launch. They know how multiple SKU/devices can confuse people, they won't try it.

Also, I can't see a large price advantage of ditching the portable part, so they may keep this till they offer a different GPU, PS4-Pro style.

If the traditional Switch releases at $350, but the home console only version releases at $250 I would be there day one.
Why a $100 difference to basically remove a cheap 720p 6" screen, a battery and some plastic?

I know this sounds kinda strange, but what is the possibility to get the nda leaked after the release of the console? I really would love to know, how tight this thing was, I mean look how many people were there and yet nothing, except "I heard this and this", leaked.

Also Nintendo switch is good name, short it would be NS which kinda sounds N(E)S, at least in german

Thing isn't out for another four months and it's already gotta be retro? Let it breathe, man.

Uhh that part is a slow motion gameplay mechanic lol

It dipped a tad but not 10 fps bad

Man it's been a few hours but I'm still super giddy about this. I cannot wait to hear more, and I am so excited to actually get one of my own come March of next year. Obliviously there are still a lot of unknowns, but as of right now the Nintendo Switch is definitely hitting and surpassing my expectations, super hyped!

Personally, I have no interest in gaming on the go. I'd be much more interested in this thing if the hybrid part was removed entirely and it was just a box with a port for game cards that played great looking Nintendo games on my big screen with the new Pro controller.

I think you also have to think of it as gaming that's not tied to your TV. Sometimes you want to play game in a different room or in your bed or on your front steps, etc. Or maybe someone else wants to use the TV. If they offered another "console-only" product, I think that could be detrimental as offering too many variations can sometimes cause confusion for the general customer.

So this thing is a new portable or a new console?

It's a new 720p portable (but too big to fit in pocket) console that has HDMI-out and socketable mini gamepads on the side. Instead if exoteric hw, this time they chose modern mobile hw.

Porting native gen8 games to few-watt ARM device will be hard, but crossgen or vusually highly modular games could land on it (like Skyrim or NBA2K...).

Awesome. Please have a fuckin good OS. People get into iOS versus android debates but both are amazing compared to things like Vita or Nintendo 3ds OS.

With a family and limited tv time this actuall would get the spot

I know im in the minority but I would have liked to see some unique gameplay experiences using gyro, touchscreen, AR and Motion

For example Nintendogs
Play at home on the TV screen. Play catch using the detachable motion controllers with the dog etc.

Udock the system then take the dog out for a walk. Use the AR features on a camera to see your dog interact outside.

I would have liked to see Brain Age return with touchscreen controls and mic. No controller needed just the tablet.

I would have liked to see Mario Kart using gyro on the tablet.

I would have liked to see Just Dance using the Joy Cons

Kirby Canvas Curse using touchscreen as well

Some vertical gameplay with only one Joy Con attached for games like Tetris and Ikaruga.

Touchscreen on Mario Maker

Pointer controls on Pikmin on the TV or touchscreen on the tablet

Not every game should have to be played the same Docked or undocked. It shoukdnt be a negative some games can take advantage of extra features and not be limited due to having everything consistent.

Why does it?

The hardware is on the handheld portion. I think any difference in performance and power comes from the different power states. i.e downclocked while on the go to increase battery life, and full performance while docked.

I'd be very surprised if there is Nvidia hardware along the lines of an imporved soc etc on the dock itself.

I don't think many people realise the implications of having soc's on the handheld and the dock, it would bump the price up crazily.

I have to say it's somewhat disappointing that the mini wiimotes on each side don't have pointers. Eliminates the possibility of Wii games on the virtual console, or games that use pointer control schemes as an option. I still want my improved wiimote control scheme dammit.

Going over some blogs and Twitter accounts, impressions are really, really mixed for this thing. Based on who you are, it's either heralding in a return to form for Nintendo or it's a more powerful Wii U and a less portable 3DS all-in-one destined to fail.
Well, DS and Wii impressions were almost universally bad, no?

I'm pretty disappointed with this announcement. I believe the Nintendo Switch is a big misstep by Nintendo. The portability of the console is being made as the selling point. That is not really what people want. There is already a big market with mobile games with cellphones and games are pretty easy to play on them.

In hindsight Nintendo was going in the right direction with the Wii and motion control. With VR and AR becoming a big way to enjoy interactive entertainment, and it feels like that is a missed opportunity to grow the market and change the way games are done. They were almost halfway there already with Wii and Wii U.

Nintendo is not really listening to developers, but then again what else is new.

Looks interesting. I'm curious how quickly the system will wear if your are constantly sliding the controls off and on the thing.

Graphics don't seem like much of a step up, but that was to be expected with the portable approach.

As per usual I'll buy it for the Nintendo games and the hand full of worthwhile exclusives. And also just for novelty sake.

I doubt it. It's just a break out box for the portable.

Love the design and concept.
If this sweetie gets Monster Hunter and Pokémon... OH BOY! I might consider picking up this instead of PS4 Pro, and I've been a Sony client since forever.

SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT, NINTENDO

Yea, despite all the unanswered questions, I already know that outside of PC, this will be what brings me into nexgen day 1. Sony and PS4 can wait.

So? Wii was laughed at and anyways I see more positive over negative.

With Skyrim Remastered (who are we kidding, it's definitely not the 360 version) and Epic amongst the supporting studios, we might be able to receive ports from PS4/XOne relatively easy. That'd be pretty damn amazing, even if the ports all ran at 720p.

I'd see myself buying Doom again for portability or GTAV or whatever comes out in the next few years.

With Epic on board, I hope that Nintendo has solid online infrastructure in place too. They must be able to get F2P games on board, they are a huge part of gaming atm.

Doom on the go? yeah I'd double dip for that.
