Considering selling largely unused PC in favor of PS4 Pro, want advice on sale method

Well if your computing needs don't go beyond internet browsing or some basic office work you can get away with having something like a Chromebook or a Mac or hell even a tablet.
For anything more advanced than that the PC is rapidly becoming the only viable choice, especially now that Apple is moving away from the high end professional computing market (how long has it been since they last updated the trashcan Mac Pro?)

I disagree. I find software development on Windows to be a loathsome proposition, but even if you prefer .Net saying that PC is the only viable choice is hyperbole.

You've answered you're own questions.
You don't need a PC. The laptop/notebook covers your workshop/study needs.
You've clearly expressed that the PS4 Pro will cover your gaming needs and selling the PS4 to help fund it is perfectly sensible in that regard.

Of course the people who sit in their dungeons for hours a day switching options on and off just so they can masturbate over the 5fps increase they get are going to call you crazy.
Why wouldn't they?

I've changed my mind, you're the crazy one. Or just a troll.

Some details:

I currently own a regular PS4. I am buying a Pro either way, this isn't to fund its purchase, but instead get rid of a redundant device. The group I game with is straight PS4, so that's a big deal.

My rig:

GTX 970
Core i5-4670k
16 gigs of ram at 2400
Benq 24 inch G-Sync Monitor (not the greatest panel, but I can't lie... g-sync is badass)

That's already better than PS4 Pro, graphically, granted without the checkerboard rendering. But you probably weren't gaming at 4K anyways.

I'd just keep the PC and keep the regular PS4, or sell the PS4 and upgrade for not a whole lot of money.

Do you have some bottled up angst you'd like to get out? This is pretty harsh.

Not crazy, looking at those Titanfall 2 PS4 Pro shots, consoles are now, with the exception of very expensive PC's, at least on par graphically.

Combined with SATA3 on the Pro, load times can be up there too, hopefully.

So now it really comes down to control scheme for first person shooters, controller and couch VS desk and mouse. I'm taking the lazier option :p

Lol, a good gaming rig can run at 60 fps + the high end visuals.

PS4 Pro is a good machine but lets not go nuts.

The state of multiplayer communities on PC makes me lean Pro. My primary concern is to play BF1 at a locked 60 fps, so I was about ready to pull the trigger on a 480. The downside was having to double dip.

If the Pro version of BF1 can run at 60 fps without the sub 30 dips, I won't have much need for a GPU upgrade anyway. At least not until Star Citizen comes out.

I have a ps4 to play exclusives only, everything else on PC, I will say I've been recently disappointed with PC releasing terrible ports so can't really knock a person who wants to get rid of gaming PC and use say a chromebook.

Entirely accurate, you mean?
Amused. Not full of angst.

The PC zealots are busy telling him how utterly crazy he is for thinking he could get by without a PC despite him clearly stating the reasons why he can manage perfectly fine without one. They are acting like their comical stereotype.

People are entitled to their opinions, sure. But you're acting a bit childish assuming that all PC gamers are basement dwellers. Come on dude.

Honestly, I recommend you keep your pc and get the PS4 Pro if have the means to keep them both.
But really, you don't want to throw out a PC which can do more than just gaming.

So if we can't list any pros for the PC and can only have an echo chamber of agreement then what was the point of the thread? 8 pages of "sell it!"?

He's already indicated that he's fully aware of the pros of the PC and he's also indicated that they don't actually matter that much to him.
That's self awareness.
A whole bunch of 'but PC is for everything else in life' or 'but muh 60fps or you're crazy', when he's already indicated that these things don't apply just seems stupid.
But, have at it.

You are kind of correct here. He stated his position quite clearly and his reasoning. His decision makes perfect sense in the context of his own situation.
So I'm not sure why he needs affirmation form anyone else.

Yeah, let's insult people with different opinions. :")
You have a bright future here, good sir.

Is this a dumb idea?

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
I did the exact opposite. Not wanting to get incremental console upgrades, I sold my PS4 and build a high end PC

I think people underestimate how long high end PCs can last without upgrading. Unless you have OCD and need every game to run on Ultra settings, a high end PC can last years without needing to be upgraded.

Well (not that I'm bothered personally) should all the people that called him crazy be worried too?

No, because that's a play on the thread title.
OP said "This sounds crazy" and also asked people's opinion about his idea.

You just come here, trying to cut any discussion, insulting people. I mean, what's even your point ? You just come off your high horses, like an angry person.

So you're saying I shouldn't be sitting in my dungeon masturbating because I got a 5fps increase after tweaking all morning.

What else should I be doing?

Do it. I sold my high end a year ago.
Never looked back. PC made be obsessed, I barely was able to enjoy games.
All I cared about was how can I make the game run the best, with the best possible graphics.
I spent hours in the menu every-time. And let's not forget all the bad ports, pretty much every single triple A game. And all the errors and nonsense. Then I go to PC game forums and thousands upon thousand of posts about people having problems with the game. Not worth it. (Go check the PC performance threads on here, every time a game comes out. So sad). On my ps4, I put the disk in, update and play. If there is a problem (extremely rare), it's the developer's fault, no tinkering around needed, so beautiful.

Most online games on PC are filled with hackers, or dead on arrival, or die within months. infinite warfare right now is dead. Battlefront when it came out died quickly. Division was unplayable, due to hackers. F that.

I only care about 60 fps in a handful of games (fast arcade and fps). 30fps stable is 100% playable for me on consoles, even for some first person shooters. Destiny runs like a dream.
Modding is a pro of PC games. But I don't care anymore. It's a waste of time. By the time I finish a moddable game, there is another big game waiting for me to play, my backlog is huge, and there are always games coming out.

And I hate the PC elitists. with their "Build your rig" mentality. F off.

And my ass that PC gaming is cheaper. I have saved a ton of money by going the consoles route. Yes you pay for online buu it's cheap and you get a lot of free games that I would not have played otherwise.
I buy my games dirt cheap on black friday, and I have GCU from best buy I get a shit ton of discounts on new games. And when I'm done, my friend borrows it and I borrow his, and then I sell my games. You can't do that on Steam. Also PSN does a lot of giant sales. PC gaming is not cheaper in the longer run, another lie PC gamers want to believe to make themselves feel better.

This whole elitist mentality of some PC gamers pisses me off. The fact you pay a couple hundred dollars more than console gamers and you waste countless of hours tinkering around the options and configs does not make you elite or master by any means.I bet most of them drive crappy four cylinder cars.

You will love the PS4, it's like night and day compared to PS3. It's a system made for gaming, all the things they added to the OS, and the DVR. I also love trophies, and how they improved the ecosystem and the community.

You can downgrade your PC to get some money and still play xbox exclusives and that good AAA PC exclusive that comes out every two years(if any), or just sell it and later buy a cheap one . I just sold mine and might put together a cheapo one soon for CIV6 (if it doesnt come to consoles) and xbox games. But first, I'm waiting for the scorpio, to see whats what.

EDIT: Let's see how many ad hominem and strawman I get. So far I got plenty. Keep it coming. You have to justify your money and time somehow.

Good luck.

Well, I guess thanks for making a topic for discussion or something.

PC can be made simple, if you want.
PC can be made comfortable, if you want.
Console gaming isn't simple anymore with the Pro's multiple rendering modes, patches, mods, crashes, etc

But do what you will. Personally I think it's crazy. I couldn't live without all the things a PC does.

Honestly do whatever you want. I upgraded my PC instead of getting A Pro, but if console gaming is more your thing, I say go for it.

I went the other direction. With PS4 Pro, I largely abandoned PS4 and built my first gaming PC in nearly a decade. I don't have an HDR/4K tv, so it sounds like the upgraded system will be largely wasted on me anyway, and I still have my launch day PS4 for exclusives.

But truly, play where you want, do what you want.

I sold my 970 "rig" a few months and never looked back. PC gaming wasn't for me. All my friends are on consoles and that's what made me stick with them. I also grew tired of the elitist pricks on many sites, including GAF that made my desdain for PC gaming even more.

I've also wondered about those who say that any frame drop or Ambient occlusion in a game hurts their eyes and what type of model 10 girlfriend they have.

That does sound crazy indeed.
PC has so much more to offer, that I'd always go with a PC + console (just for the exclusives) combo.

Not sure why you'd want to sell your PC when you already have a PS4. Would have thought access to PC/Xbox Console exclusive games outweighs any slight graphical improvements on PS4 games which you can already play.

personally i can't even get an erection anymore unless i increase my framerate by at least 10hz
Yeah, I personally always go for the PC Master Race category on Pornhub.

You either did that in 2005 or never had a PC. Your post is full of hyperbole and cliches all around and contradictions on top of that.

As for tinkering, that all comes down to you. If you feel obsessed, the problem comes from you.

Bad ports ? All AAA releases ? There's only a handful titles that deserves to be called bad ports. Even Batman Arkham Knight, which had a lot of troubles, still would be considered a good console versions if it had the performances of the PC version. Most PC ports called bad ports are often identical to console versions.

Elitism ? That comes from any people. Then again how people's way of acting should come to your purchase decision ?

Games not being cheaper ? That's factually wrong but whatever.

Online filled with hackers ? As I said it was either 2005 or it never happened. That concern might be about either old games or ones with terrible online architecture. Last time I crossed a cheater was 4 years ago on GTA4.

I would just do whatever is in your best interest, OP. Only you yourself can make the decision. At least this thread provided some really funny replies.

I don't really understand the point of the thread either. People just like affirmation when making decisions sometimes, I guess.
However his position is fairly clear and has sound reasoning behind it. So it's clearly not what you could call 'crazy'.

He isn't asking for a list of what makes PC's better as he has demonstrated he knows that.

As soon as I became a dad, I stopped gaming on the PC. I prefer being able to put in a disc and not mess around with settings and hardware.

I have not seen any elitism from PC GAF in the past year and a half or more. In fact all references to this that I've come across have been mocking this supposed group of people that haven't actually presented themselves as such. You don't see PC gamers here patting each other on the back for not owning a console.
