Considering selling largely unused PC in favor of PS4 Pro, want advice on sale method

I personally don't miss it at all..
having made a choice between what works best for me
 
Don't blame the OP, I played overwatch on PC thought it was amazing so upgraded my processor etc and got a GTX1070 but then they had a free overwatch weekend on XB1, I doubled dipped and haven't gone back to my PC, the games seem better on console, more people playing medics etc.

I have a 4K to but am gonna wait for Scorpio rather than PS4pro due to my library & backwards comparability, the current consoles are fine for another year imo
 
Wow gaf, so many say how much more power his rig has....

But his friends play PS4 and he doesn't game on the PC so what's the point?
 
I love how people look at the specs, deem them as (more) powerful and go "keep it, it's more powerful"

He's not using that power.

He already has a PS4. If he's getting a Pro, he should be getting rid of his Ps4 rather than his PC.having PC around means he's open to 2 entirely different library
 
I dont know OP, its been the opposite for me. Gaming since the 2nd generation when I was stil wetting my bed, I got into PC last year and its been revealation. Its not even so much about any power differences between top line PCs and consoles, as by 2016 standards I'm on a moderate 750ti. But still, its the free online gameplay, after a decade of being mindbended into thinking paying $50 a year for it on top of my ISP fess was perfectly fine. Its the competing storefronts GOG, GMG, Steam driving prices down to LOL are you kidding me no-brainer level. Its the idea of being able to carry all my purchases to my next PC in 5-10 years, without worrying about compatibility like closed-box consoles. The emulators, the various controllers from different companies, its like the ultimate one-stop shop for the majority of my games now, save for the odd Playstation exclusive and those damn Nintendo exclusives that have me hooked.

But sell my PC for a gaming console? Now.?! Not on your life. Im about to put it under my compenent shelf and pair it with a 4k TV this christmas, and upgrade my GPU to a 1070, where it will be the center of my entertainment setup.
 
I sold my PC 3 years ago and have not regretted it once. I loved playing multiplayer fps games on it, but when we moved I just realized I didn't want to build a "pc Corner" again. It was time to move on for me. I also had some kind of ocd where I was constantly tweaking settings to get the best performance. I spent so much time on it (yeah it was fun too) I had a hard time enjoying a game for what it really was, and focusing more on technical aspects.

I even play BF1 now multiplayer. Yeah, I suck a lot more now when I was pretty good at pc, but who cares...All other games except strategy plays great.

My point of the story. If there are other things about PC you feel hesitant about, go ahead and try.

Every now and then I feel the urge to get that real raw power that a pc can bring again, but I just enjoy lying in my couch gaming. It is much more enjoyable for me now. And I have my work laptop for work related things. For me it was a relief to get rid of that thing.

I've considered the same thing, but for me it's been frustration pushing me in that direction.

Since the Windows 10 Anniversary update I've had to disconnect my internal Bluetooth module on my PC and my old printer as they were causing blue screens a few times a day. Running those issues down has been a source of frustration and they've taken time away from gaming to resolve them.

My GTX 1070 fried on me a week ago so I'm currently in limbo while I await an RMA. I don't anticipate having the replacement card for at least another week.

I'm impatient and don't like waiting for PC releases on games like RDR 2 and FF XV. I think they will both come to PC and they will both be superior, but I don't like buying the same game twice and I don't like the long waits.

I have considered tearing it all down, selling the PC parts, selling the PS4, and just having the Pro. I have a MacBook Air that I use for everything but gaming and a lot of the fun indie ports actually run on it anyway. I'm still hesitant though.
 
I would advice against it. Especially when you already have a PS4, this would be an awful idea. You are replacing your PS4 with PRO to get slight power increase. And then get rid of the machine that is the most powerful of the three. I really see no advantages in what you are doing. You are making two mistakes.

Indeed, I have no idea why this pops up once again. Me and most of my friends have their PC hooked up to a TV. For games, movies, music and so on. And my setup is such that when needed I sit on a chair playing with MKB, with controller I go to the couch and put my feet up. It's a long time that consoles had the advantage of ease of use, just pop in the game and start playing. Doesn't really work that way anymore. Updating drivers on PC happens with just few easy clicks. People really don't need to be rocket scientists to use one. And there's no need to tinker with graphic options either, if someone doesn't enjoy it. Games themselves or Nvidia client will recognize your hardware and set the options accordingly. I would simply hate to browse GAF on mobile too, rather do it on PC.

If anything, fix the problem why you aren't using your PC. I bet it would be the easiest thing to fix. And do you really play more PS4 exclusives than multiplatform games?
 
I was thinking the same thing and if it wasn't for strategy games the PC would be sold already. If you really don't need to play any PC only games then just go for it. But like people have said sell your ps4 then get a pro if you do still use your PC, even if its for only one game that you can't get on console and you see yourself always wanting to play it. That's the only regret I would have with selling mine is the strategy games I like I wouldn't be able to play.

It always amounts to personal preference. Ps4 pro isn't going to deliver on PC quality so there's that but if PC offers no game of interest and your more ps4 exclusives then it's a valid move.
 
Just go for it. If you're not using your PC that much, why not? You can sell your PC and get a PS4 Pro and a slim laptop or something.

And if you already have a PS4 just sell it as well.

Checking benchmarks I see a 970 runs this at 73 avg FPS:

Is that really "murdering" it? I don't see it. Also the 970 drops to 50 average when running at 1440p.

Obviously one is more powerful than the other, but I don't see OP's PC murdering a $400 PS4 Pro.
 
I thought a lot about buying a PC and I can afford it but I decided against it for the following reasons:

PS4 Pro is coming.

My PS4 friends list is not coming to PC.

PS4 remote play is pretty cool too, and I use it frequently.

Ease of use of of PS4 Pro vs. building a PC and fixing it etc.

Lots of Cheaters, Glitchers, and exploiters on PC in multiplayer games (like in the Division)

All the games I enjoy playing are either console exclusive or Multiplatform on PS4.

Destiny 2 is reportedly going to continue to have extras on Playstation.

Yeah i am, i'm basing what i wrote out of the prices here for the new AAA titles. Clearly as i stated, i can be wrong. No, wait, i'm sure i am wrong.

But for the sake of my line of thinking, it's right to take in account how much would cost here, that's all.

Do it OP If you are really interested in PS4 exclusives. I think Pro gives the players enough reasons tech wise, to make the jump
 
PC gaming has never been better and Sony exclusives don't attract me enough so far to justify a PS4. MotorStorm and WipeOut would have changed that.

yeah this is what I'm doing now. Used PC last gen for most singeplayer-focused multiplats, now it's just become my visual novel machine. Pretty much everything that I find worth the time these days is Playstation exclusive, only multiplats I have on PS4 are COD IW, Witcher 3, and Dark Souls 3.

If I could get Windows 10 working stably on my Mac I would've sold off my PC a while ago.

I feel posts like this are kinda unreasonable for people outside of the enthusiast world.

I think one platform is more than enough to game on these days if you have anything close to a busy schedule.

Owning a bunch of platforms is overrated imho.
 
Sell your PS4 and get PS4Pro. Get multiplayer games you plan to play with friends and exclusives on console. Keep your PC for everything else.

Exactly, if the thread was about selling PC then getting Nintendo Switch or even getting PS4/PRO without already owning PS4 . I would be more likely to say, sure go for it! But what OP is talking about defies all logic.

That's true, but it is not as plug and play as a console is. Used to be quite a lot of configuring to get different games running right, especially for multiple controllers. Things might have changed. Anyway, it's not my primary reason.

Very dumb in my opinion especially if you use your PC for more than just gaming. I'd be severely screwed without a PC.

You dont need any configuration anymore. Just click on the game you in the steam library and click "play game". Controller is just a matter of plugging in to the usb slot.

Honestly, at this point in time a lot of people don't need a PC or laptop in their life anymore, since everyone has a tablet which does everything they used their PC for (browsing the internet, listening to YouTube or visiting social media). Hell, my own brother who used to play hardcore WoW with me back in the day doesn't own a PC anymore.

If you are in that category, and you like gaming with your mates on PS4, I'd say go for it.

If you still need a PC for other stuff, then hell no. Keep it.
 
For those asking why I built the computer in the first place:

I originally bought the 970 during the Witcher 3/Batman promotion, built the computer around the deal, and I have since used it for many games. It's only recently that it's slowed to a halt, and with Pro coming out, I don't see a lot of use in its future.

And PC gaming is NOT cheaper for me; I get new games for 20% off using Prime, and I sell them back (something I can't do on PC) for around 30 to 40 bucks when I'm done. I can essentially play new games for 10 to 20 bucks using this method.

Also to reiterate, if I sell this PC I'm definitely getting a Chromebook or laptop, which will actually be more suitable for me due to potential classes in the future.

Edit: I'm selling my current PS4 and putting those funds toward the Pro. Selling the computer would be entirely separate.
 
If your friends play on PS4 I would just play on PS4, unless you only play single player games. The social experience is a big part of gaming and for me at least, a lot more important than getting better framerate or graphics.

Sounds like you're making a reasonable decision by selling the PC. It's only going to decrease in value as it gathers more dust.

It's a dumb idea, but I'll take the set-up outside of the monitor depending on how much you want for it.
 
If you are okay with getting 30 cents on a dollar return, do it. Sell it now before it loses even more value.

Personally, I would wait on buying the Pro. You will get great deals next year when the Scorpio releases and there are no great games that will take advantage of the power anyway unless you use VR

Except the one he made in his OP, such as the multiplayer community with his friends. Hell, even if you don't have your friends using the PS4, multiplayer on consoles can have some advantages with some games that quickly die on the PC.

While certainly with the CPU the PC will easily win out in some games limited by it btw, it's not a given that this will be the case with all games as well as compared to a 970. HDR & even-if-its-not-native the 4K up rendering tecnique of the Pro in some games would def stress a 970 at resolutions above 1080p.

But hey i say go ahead and sell it. Rig deserve better owners

You dont need any configuration anymore. Just click on the game you in the steam library and click "play game". Controller is just a matter of plugging in to the usb slot.

Oh please. As a 90% PC gamer I know this is just not the case.
 
You gots to make the best decision for your situation. But man after building a PC recently after being a lifetime console gamer; I can never willingly walk back into the walled; pay gated garden of any console at this point.

Well if your computing needs don't go beyond internet browsing or some basic office work you can get away with having something like a Chromebook or a Mac or hell even a tablet.
For anything more advanced than that the PC is rapidly becoming the only viable choice, especially now that Apple is moving away from the high end professional computing market (how long has it been since they last updated the trashcan Mac Pro?)

...and many find it far superior actually. GAF really has trouble understanding home desktop PC's are a niche these days.

Regardless, as the OP has said repeatedly he's getting a laptop. He's not swearing off PC's, he's getting a variant that the vast majority is using as it makes more sense for his lifestyle.
