Its OK to keep at 10-bit all the time. You will need to be in limited. The texture itself doesn't need to be 10-bit, so its OK to use on standard SDR content. It may give some improvement in darker areas of the image.
Cool thanks ill check them out if they're free on prime.
Edit: do I need to set the quality like Netflix? Seems to be maxing out at 1080.
Edit2: found it and tv told me hdr was enabled!
Started goliath for now. So HDR makes things a lot darker?Just watch man in the high castle
Absolutely beautiful
Make sure it says UHD in the upper left corner. I found out last night there are two listings of the show on Amazon prime.
Mine through the TV app actually notifies me when HDR video has started. It doesn't even matter if it starts off as a pixelated buffer the video still sends an HDR signal to the TV to change the settings to HDR. Your tv should be automatically set to movie and warm 2 when using apps and UHD automatically activates when it detects video.

I guess what I thought it was was wrong. All the demos at best buy made it seem like it was all about making colors more vibrant.

And yeah goliath doesn't do it as good as Man in the high castle.

Edit question: To enable HDR mode while in Gaming Mode, one must simply enable Game Mode (and not just enable HDR mode, because then Game Mode is greyed out) and with just Game Mode enabled it will auto-detect HDR content? Please tell me this is true.
On Man in the high castle it being off looks great. In goliath everything, including scenes in broad daylight look too dark.If you need to......try dynamic contrast in low.....that's as far as I would ever put that setting on

I wouldn't even do that. I've tinkered with this set for more than 3 months now. It's just something your eyes have to get used to. Any dynamic contrast setting is crushing blacks and whites, which defeats the purpose of HDR. I kept DC on medium for HDR for a month or so, but I'm a full no DC convert now.
I probably missed it, can someone post their movie/tv settings?
I haven't really even bothered with netflix on this thing

First post Or something else?
Easiest way to do it is movie mode, warm 2, color space auto set your backlight to 8ish, lower for dark room if you prefer, brightness 45 (default) smart LED low (preference thing, high is ok I guess, but I like low) and Dynamic Contrast to off, color space auto.
then, enable an hdr source, and once that is playing, do the same as above but keep backlight at 20. The TV will save this setting for HDR content.
Now, copy those same exact setting to game mode. The only caveat is, if you are playing a game in HDR, you have to manually set the backlight to 20. Takes 5 seconds.
BOOM, that's all you need to know.
Thanks guys
Oh and Maze to your point to copying the settings to a game, I agree with pretty much everything except I keep contrast high (90) and smart led on high in games
I keep contrast at 100 for everything as it seems this TV doesn't clip whites when doing so. I can see why you would want smart LED on high in games too, as where things being dark in movies is welcome, in games where you have to be able to see everything to interact with it, brightening up the scene can help in playability. I might even concede to dynamic contrast on low for certain games, though, you could get about the same effect just cranking the in game brightness slider a little.
Makes sense.
What does that setting apply to all sources mean?
And I just tested with Marco Polo, it auto adjusted![]()
Just ordered the 65" KS8000, y'all got me HYPED.
I know this is thread for the KS8000 but thanks to a Gaffer who put me on some dude at SlickDeals that was selling EPP accounts I managed to get a 65inch KS9000.
Any idea if the settings for the KS8000 may be used for the my KS9000?

Why do you need to manually set the backlight when playing HDR in game mode? Isn't it saved in the HDR settings?
Limited isn't an option when I switch to 10 bit though. The hdmi black level is frayed out.Its OK to keep at 10-bit all the time. You will need to be in limited. So ridiculous changes the settings but marco and daredevil don't. Both latest seasons. And ridiculous if hdr is active doesn't look impressive at all. Maybe I'm missing the point of hdr.
No man. The chess demo looked incredible! That's how I want everything to look!Hdr is just about giving you the most natural picture as possible. If the chess demo, and i think the one called wonderland didnt impress you, than hdr isn't for you.
For example, theres a demo that shows some ducks on the water. On sdr and hdr the overall brightness should be the similar, but the sunlight reflecting off the water should be way brighter than the sdr version.
It's also the little things, like details that are normally clipped on sdr will show on hdr.

about to watch the lg chess demo on the tv through usb
How do I do the second position? Do I need to buy the stand just to make the second position work?
Anyone having any issues with the back panel coming loose from the TV? That's really the major thing holding me back at this point. That, and reading that some people are really struggling to sort out HDR, juggling settings all over the place. I can't plug in my Pro/4K BD player and have it just work?
I've been putting off buying a new TV for years. My old 720p 42" Panasonic plasma is still soldiering on, but it's showing its age, and I'm sick of missing out on 1080p this gen. I'll likely keep a new TV for a decade, so I don't want to jump on something right before the tech stabilises - I was burned by 1080p last time, and don't want to be burned by HDR metadata, Dolby Vision, or miss whatever the newest HDMI spec is with my next one.
Apologies for ignorant questions; I just find myself scrambling to research this TV due to the Black Friday sales. It needs to not fall to pieces, and be compatible with all the 4K HDR goodness that will become the final standard for the next decade while OLED filters down into the mainstream, and 8K starts appearing on the shelves. Should I jump on it while the jumping's good, or wait yet another year?
I stand corrected-
To anyone that has the FFXV JP demo and understands the Japanese settings
Switch HDR and pro mode.
Go to your KS8000 (using the latest firmware) settings and turn on Dynamic contrast (I prefer high) and be prepared to experience true HDR.
All other settings and options that I've tried including the OP's settings did not enable HDR on.Edit (I'm talking about the game, the TV does notify you "a hdr video is playing")
I get no crushed blacks or any of the non-sense people are talking about-
you know it's true HDR because of how realistic the shadows are and how Noctics black outfit is still detailed enough to show all the shades of black, staring at the sun is almost like stating at the real sun, Sky is perfect and blue.
One more thing I will add is that putting sharpness to 0 is a mistake (at least from what I've tested on the latest firm ware) making it go to 0 makes the image blurry.
totally amazing.
Mate no offense, but I think you're crazy. I've been playing ff jp demo for hours and have backlight to max and that's it. DC is off and the game looks glorious. It doesn't need it at all. You're better off playing with in-game brightness. This game doesn't need DC at all for me unlike infamous, which made me happy. I feared all hdr will look like infamous but it's not the case at all.
