KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Shakey, ive actually seen the tv app say 4k before, and when i went into the options for info it said 2160p. Its weird though because some videos will say HD and only display 1440p.

Edit: you installed the firmware off a usb stick ?

KyleOnTheRun's post is money. After researching a bit last night, I figured out the same thing after a few days of tinkering, I'm finally ready to just enjoy the picture on the TV with only minor tinkering. I have my PC settings done the same way, and I would say I'm satisfied with the result. Having this set incorrectly will destroy your image.

Ah see, thats where its different.

The built in TV app on this TV details it as 4K and the resolution is higher in the video information part.

The PS4 Pro app states its HD and the resolution its given in the video information app is below that of 2160p.

Not sure if its me or the app now.

Anyone free to try?

It might have said that on an older firmware, but at least with 1152, it just says HD even for 4K content.


And yes, on a USB Stick. Need 1.2gb free. Simple, Easy, and no downsides. It's the exact same firmware we will get in about 2 weeks. It's just for some reason, they release it first in Korea.

Sadly, there's only about 4 videos on Youtube that actually support HDR.

Yea, this seems to be my issue with every 4K video on the PS4 app.

They all display as HD and 1440p.

Can anyone who has the youtube app on the pro see what theres says for 4K videos if they have a spare minute, just to get some clarification?

The natural setting has huge problems and shouldn't be used.

- Brightness that is far too high causing crushed whites. Natural has it maxed out when it should be 4-10 on SDR, 20 on HDR.
- Sharpness setting near 50 introducing white lines around objects and potential artifacts. Sharpness should be at 0.
- Standard color mode vs Warm 2 which means far too much blue is in the picture and colors are not realistic and oversaturated
- Auto motion plus is on auto introducing extra frames to content and a soap opera like effect
- Dynamic contrast which in general fucks up everything and further crushes blacks. Its negative effects are even more pronounced with SDR content (like standard blurays) then HDR content.

I'd invite you to try the settings listed in the OP which do a good job of giving a realistic picture. If you are using natural you are getting a highly inaccurate picture with multiple post processing effects on top of that.
 
Where did you Canadians end up buying your KS8000? I'm looking at the 65" and having a tough time picking the best place.

I'm leaning towards Amazon but am weary because of the third party sellers. Best Buy may have it on sale during their VIP sale on Thursday so I am waiting until then.

Any other suggestions?

I dont have a pro, but YouTube might need to release an updated version of the app.

PS4 PRO YouTube app is the best, runs fast and it has a video toggle button for information on the video so you can always check the resultion of the video being played.

I have the same issue as you, most videos were displayed as HD and when I checked the res it was 1440p. This is a wireless or Internet issue. I tried it at night when the Internet is less busy and conjested and 4k worked. Going to run wired via a Powerlan adapter and see how that pans out.

I'll try it but I must admit I do like a picture that "pops" is slightly over saturated. Warm 1/2 always look too yellow and dull for me (even if they are in line with industry standards).

That been said nothing to lose giving it a go :)

Hmm, Glad I'm not the only one then.
I find it amusing that the app cant seem to get 4K properly on the net when the TV app can, lol
Given im on Virgin Media in the UK (The best Internet Available) but I spose Wireless might factor in.

I'll have a play about a bit with my wireless settings and powerline adapters then.

Its not a deal breaker, the app might be smoother on the PS4 Pro but I dont always have it on so the TV one is better for me, even tho it doesnt seem to save any settings when you turn the TV off at the wall and back on again the next time you use it.

None, but I haven't had any time to test it out either really.

HDR for Youtube was added. Still no 2nd save slot for Game Mode HDR settings....

So tonight I'm going to see if they've hopefully figured out a way to stop the judder on Cable TV with automotion lol.
 
35000ish will get you 1440p and 50000ish for 4k to work.

This was really annoying me too but I have to say, 1440p looks bloody good on a 4k screen.
 
So, I'm thinking about trying a KS8000, despite my terrible luck with the LCD panel lottery in the past with banding, DSE, flashlighting, and clouding.

There are several panel sources for the KS8000 model as indicated on the box: FA01, AA02, etc. Is there a preferred one that is less problematic than the others?

Youtube app on the Pro says 1440p max, I've never had it say 4k on the header or 2160p in the video info. There's really no reason to ever use it since this TV has a better Youtube app that actually displays in 4K for most videos that are labeled that way. The only exception are the Digital Foundry videos. They are labeled as 4k, but they have always shown as HD for me. I wonder if they are just using that label in the title but are reserving the actual 4k videos for their paid subscribers.
 
Actually, after a bit of testing... With TV hardwired to router and on a 250/30 connection, I can't get youtube, at least right now, to display anything higher than 2560x1440.

Wonder if youtube is on some sort of stress load at the moment or something, very odd.

EDIT **** Actually, further testing on both PS4 Pro and TV.

PS4 Pro - will say Resolution 3840x2160 and will also put the Video at 3840x2160. But for this to work, I actually had to run the video, let it play for a minute, then quit it, and reload it.

TV - Will say Resolution 1920x1080 x2 ( is this something with the TV or is mine being dumb? Who Knows? It equals 4K... But odd that it's displayed as such when the PS4 Pro will actually just say 3840x2160 ) and will aslo put the video at 3840x2160, but again, had to do the same playing of video, quitting, and then restarting it. It varied more on the TV than the PS4.

But when both were at max resolution, there wasn't a single difference I could see with my naked eye... Looked so good, and I was clocking in around 55000kbps, Which is insane, because I always thought youtube capped around 30mbps, not 55.

Youtube needs to start their own 4K Streaming Service with the speeds they offer.... The quality would be so much better, and I'd pay for that.

Backlight is subjective.... Except for HDR.

I like my backlight, on games, to be a tad high... I use 10. But a lot of people will go lower, around 5 ( which I use for regular TV and Movies ). It's just however you really want it to look.

But if the game is running HDR, then backlight has to be at 20.

Since this seems like the KS8000 home, does anyone know the exact footprint of the 49 inch model?

My stand is about 104cm wide and I am worried it won't fit.
 
Sorry if this has been discussed. Just looked at the rtings review again and the set has slightly more lag without HDR than with HDR? Is that possible?

4k @ 60Hz : 22.7 ms
4k @ 60Hz + HDR : 21.1 ms
 
Just picked my 49' KS8000 up over the weekend and really loving it. I have a question with the youtube app. Seeing a previous picture in the thread and noticed his stats on a video were different. Using the tv's Youtube app my dimensions are 1920x1080*2 and it seems I cant get the app to play a true 3840x2160. Just wondering if this is normal? Thanks for all the settings/info in this thread

I've asked this in the Sony 800 series thread but still relevant here: "gaming mode" wise does this Samsung set have three inputs for HDR gaming vs Sony 800d having two? Or do I have the number of inputs of either set incorrect?
 
I have a PS4 pro and a gaming Pc and I'm getting my 65ks8000 tomorrow. My questions are:
1: is the HDR mode still bugged in gaming mode?
2: Does game mode decrease lag by an appreciable amount?
3: Does the TV save separate settings for tv apps? Or Does it use the last known inputs settings?
4: I have a gtx 1070 and it technically supports HDR. Should I use it or tv apps for streaming HDR content?

All 4 inputs on KS series are HDR gaming capable

The TV App will do 4K no problem on my wireless connection it has to the router. Displays 4K on the title card, backlight shoots up to 20 when an HDR video is playing.

The PS Pro Youtube app never goes above the HD symbol and wont go above the 1440p resolution, no matter what 4K video I throw at it.

For me, all my settings are auto bar HDMI black level which is set to full to match the TV.

My only other issue is the youtube app with the TV itself.
It doesnt save to memory my login details when I turn it off at the mains power supply, so I have to continously login every day when I get in from work.
 
Wow wow wow. Call me a fool. The reason I was like 'But I need dynamic contrast on for some stuff" Is because I had the ecosensor which auto renabled for some reason when I updated the firmware. I had it correct for gaming which is why it was off pretty much always unless I was in a bright room. But it was completely messing up my v watching of the UHD USB clips. It 100% destroys the picture to have it on now. Like SpongeBob eye burn levels.

dude that's why i mentioned turning off eco settings awhile back. The same thing happened to me after i updated, the eco settings turned back on.
 
Crap, so the the connection to a computer resets back to PC mode every time it (and the TV) are powered back on together? That sucks. I much prefer keeping it in Movie mode with my own calibrations, rather being limited to Standard or Dynamic.

Yeah it's X1. When I switch to 10 bit and do the black square test I can't see the first 15. In 8 bit I can.

OK. For some reason my PS4 reset itself back to Auto and that's why I was getting a washed out image when using Normal HBL.That setting keeps graying and ungraying itself out too. It's weird.

Finally got in touch with an actual Samsung repair guy. Texted him a few pics of the bleeding and he ordered me a new panel.

Don't take my settings for the lords word.

The answer is yes. You are good. The other answer is most of us are still trying to figure this all out. And the third answer is settings can be a personal preference.

So my settings aren't the same as others. Just my personal preference based on what I could figure out.

For instance some of us swear warm1 for gaming. Others say the cinematic warm2 should be used.

Best option? If you like the settings close the thread and never come back lol

Also be careful round that tv. Sucks when they fall

Sorry, I'm not following. I also lack a 4K receiver, so I've had to give up 5.1 lossless audio by plugging my PS4 Pro directly into the KS8000 and the receiver into HDMI 4. That way ARC still gives me 5.1 DD and/or DTS. I also lost any OSD from the receiver in order to adjust settings.

I guess I'm not understanding how dual outputs would help me. Although perhaps it doesn't!
