KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Hey quick question.

For that youtube HDR playlist, if I have my PC hooked up to the KS8000 will it give me a HDR notification if I play any of those HDR videos in chrome? Or do I need to manually go and bump the brightness up to 20 etc?

Is it possible to download a 4k HDR video file and connect the HDD to the TV over regular USB? Will it show everything correctly, including HDR? Or would it require a newer type of USB?

Yes it is :)

This is what I use to demo the TV to people that come over now haha.

The baby is received!

Setting her up now.

Do you guys recommend updating to 1152? Seems only 1150 is recognized over air.

I'm still confused on why people are using the Movie preset and why it would take time to get used to. There are the same options in each preset. The idea of the preset is to have different settings for different content.

I don't think the actual preset makes a difference unless someone can show otherwise.

I thought that when HDR content is played, settings video settings are changed. It seems that whether I play an HDR video or not, the settings stay the same (e.g. backlight would be at 10). And, if I set it to 20, as suggested here, when I go back to non-HDR content, backlight stays at 20. Is that normal?

Yes i tried it, or i wouldnt of said it works. The demos are from the uhd demo site. Just type in uhd demos in google and the site will pop up. Then go to the hdr section.

I didnt download the korean update, so the hdr files I've watched have been from that site.

Ok thanks, the demo HDR videos from that site did work on my thumb drive in HDR and switched to 20 backlight automatically.

So the issue with downloading HDR YouTube video seems to be that you can't download the HDR versions off of YouTube, at least not with the program I've been using.

When you have "game mode" set to on, your settings stay the same HDR or no HDR IIRC. If you have game mode set to off, then your backlight should go up to 20 as soon as HDR is detected.

I fixed the turning on/off problem by factory resetting but now it doesn't recognize my PS4 and Xbox and keeps wanting to initialize the setup every time and never finds it.

what files are in the link 3? are they the same files on the demo uhd site?

edit: never mind.

Often They are not all set the same, even if you made settings between them equal... except in the case of modes such as Expert 1 and Expert 2.

For instance, if you were to take greyscale sweeps of cinema mode and then switch to vivid, you would see two completely different profiles. Some modes can be so different from a calibrated set that it can be impossible to even fix.

This mostly matters to people who calibrate their displays to a known reference, in which case it can be much less work to start off with settings and modes that get you pretty close and requires minimal tweaking, that's all.

I just got home with this TV. Does it not have Soundshare (or Soundconnect or whatever)?!?! My sounbar doesn't want to connect to the TV, and I don't have an optical cable and no HDMI slots available...

It definitely has Soundconnect, as I've got it working wirelessly with my HW-K450.

Using the TV as a monitor for my PC, what should the refresh rate be? Just had some games look like they were breaking and couldnt figure it out. Set it from 30 to 60 and appears to have fixed the issue, but I don't know what it is supposed to be?

60, absolutely 60.

60hz should be the refresh.

Have you turned on hdr+? If so, turn it off. If not, are you not in movie mode? Choose movie mode then turn of game mode.

You don't even have to be in movie mode first, just go to special viewing mode, then game mode. Done.

Game mode has it's own settings that will save.

I am so close to buying the 55" KS8000...

Why can't I click the button? T-T

This set is great for movies and anime right? Outside of OLED?

I don't know the model of my soundbar, but I bought it just last year. It's a Samsung, and it used to connect automatically whenever "TV" was displaying on the bar. Now it just flashes "TV REQUEST" over and over and nothing happens. I have three options under the TV's sound menu:
Choose speaker:
TV speakers
Bluetooth
External/Optical (these are rough translations as my TV is in Norwegian)

Nothing else....

EDIT: Model HW-H450

EDIT2: A little googling solved it!
My soundbar was used with my old TV, so when I was putting it on search it kept searching for the old one and wouldn't accept new devices. I had to reset it by holding the play button for ten seconds!

I ordered the 55" about two hours ago because the 60" was out of stock (65" is also out of stock).

Then I called Samsung 20 minutes later to see if they could upgrade me to the 60" on their end. Nope, so I just ended up canceling the order completely.

I was using EPP, but I just kept thinking of my buddy's 60" 1080p set. I'm sure the 55" would have been fine, but stupid ass me had to wait til the last minute and so now I get nothing.

I guess EPP will only get cheaper in the future as will other sets, kind of bummed out though. Oh well.

The guy has issues enabling game mode, so I'm imagining it's greyed out for him. I'm trying to think of reasons why.

What you're saying doesn't help with that.

So so so so...
I just watch everything in movie mode, then when I want to play a game, I manually turn on game mode?

Then if it looks off during hdr, I probably need to crank the backlight to max?

Backlight max during hdr content.

Anyone new please refer to the op. Lots of help there.

I will add to it don't use hdr+ mode. That seems to catch people

Will also add use game mode for movies and shows is probably fine

Anyone has any input on op throw it my way

Any one recommend a clip from these sites that shows off HDR extremely well?

Also, Dynamic contrast should be off during HDR gaming now? What changed that got people to change their mind?

We tested and discussed?

What you lose isn't worth what you gain. That was our conclusion.

Felt like we spent 10 pages on it.

Use it to your preference though.

Has anyone figured out what content causes the stutter issue people complain of.i use to notice it on something like netflix but I either got used it or this new panel doesn't have it.

Cymatic Jazz, it's that Mega link, is probably the best showcase for 4K/HDR I've ever seen. That thing is a must watch.

Hey all!

I just picked up my copy of the KS8000! I'm trying to set it up with my PS4 Pro and am running into some issues. When I go to 'resolution' in the PS4 settings, it tells me that 2160p - YUV420 is supported, but 2160p - RGB is unsupported. Why? Also, when I go to 'video output information', it tells me that HDR is not supported on my TV. I followed the HDR settings from the OP (backlight between 5-10, dynamic contrast off and per the RTings HDR settings, color space to native and smart LED to high). What am I doing wrong to prevent HDR from being enabled? Thanks!

Are you using the cable it came with? Did you enable UHD Color for all your HDMI ports in the settings?

Thanks. Easier than reading through 2000+ posts.

Yes I am using the HDMI cable the PS4 Pro came with, which is plugged into the PSVR processing box, which is connected to the TV with a 2.0 HDMI cable I bought separately. And yes, UHD Color has been enabled for all HDMI ports.

Your issue is the PSVR box. You can send 4K through it but HDR can not be. Plug your HDMI directly into your TV and everything should work no problem.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I had no idea this was true. Makes it even more of a hassle to use PSVR now that I'll have to constantly plug and un-plug that cable! lol

update your tv and change color space to auto. no need to change it to native if you have the latest firmware.

Those YouTube HDR videos are super impressive. Probably the first time I've been really impressed with the TV. The TV is great and all but I haven't been blown away by HDR in games or any of the UHD Blu-rays I've seen so far with exception of maybe the Revenant. The YT videos show what our TV is actually capable of.

Well, you got me to download the 1152 update, I need to see this!

Just set up my 65" KS8000. Thanks to you guys, optimising the settings was a breeze. Only place I needed to deviate from the recommended settings was to lower the brightness a taste, per a colour bar test pattern.

Initially the TV seemed to have some problems recognising the One Connect: it was convinced it wasn't plugged in. After plenty of manual disconnects and reconnects punctuated by faint flickers of signal, it was all good. When it eventually worked, it worked - no dropouts or anything during use despite plenty of source swapping - but obviously I'm going to keep an eye open. At worst its a funky port on the TV; hopefully just a firmware bug, shoddy OneConnect cable or OneConnect box, if it's anything at all. Haven't turned the TV off since I got it working just in case I can't bring it back to life tonight. Will update if there's further weirdness, but I have two days to return it to B&H if need be, and a four year Squaretrade warranty to fall back on if it proves to be an issue down the road.

Right now the panel is connected to a PS4 Pro (the menu alone looks mind blowing), an Apple TV, and a PS3. Xbone S is on its way. Annoyingly, my internet is down, so I haven't been able to update it with the latest firmware, and can't watch delicious 4K Netflix. Try not to cringe too hard when I tell you the first thing I've fed it aside from menus is the season 1 Arrested Development DVD. Yep. Good old 480p. I wasn't in the mood for a BD movie, and my media server is out of action due to a dead iMac (also replaced today). But I'm very impressed by how well it's performing. Looks every bit as good as my old 720p plasma, if not better. There's more detail just due to the size. The SD performance really surprised me; and that's with no extra features turned on to improve the sub-HD picture. It just looks like what it is: a less detailed picture; not the dog's dinner some displays make of 480p content.

I can't wait to feed it a Blu-ray, get into some HDR gaming, and see how it deals with streaming and disc based 4K content. But I expect those things to look great. The fact that 480p doesn't look like unwatchable garbage is an unexpected bonus.

Glad I waited as long as I did to upgrade, but I feel like I jumped on this TV at the perfect time. Absolutely stunning. Many thanks for all the info; it's been invaluable.
