KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Cymatic Jazz, it's that Mega link, is probably the best showcase for 4K/HDR I've ever seen. That thing is a must watch.

Just watched it. Looks pretty crazy. The way the light reflects off the instruments is pretty bright and the flames on the candles look very natural/real.

Kinda sucks that the latest Netflix update on PS4 took out the ability to check stream info so I have no way of confirming if something is actually playing 4K or not.

I was as well initially, but many on avsforums have done the update without issue. I did it this morning, and even the readme file in the zip was in english. If you want it go ahead and pull the trigger, i can vouch for its safety.

Will my apps be affected?

He might be having problems because he's using hdr+. He needs to be more specific.

Yea. That's what I asked him too.

Yes, LG Chess is a must!

I just tried it. That demo is so good!

I will add a note about psvr in OP.

Processing box stops hdr from working.

I was actually thinking about this when I first read about it weeks ago. I can't remember why HDR doesn't work with the PSVR box, I mean, is it the box itself, or is it because the HDMI cable that comes with it isn't 2.0 compatible, therefore limited bandwidth?

I have a question for others with the Samsung.

Is there a way to stop it auto detecting HDMI devices?

For some reason every 3 or 4 boots of my PC it defaults the channel to HDMI 2 and i have to change it back to PC, it's almost as if it is detecting something newly attached to it and going back to its initial detect mode. Is there any way to turn that off?

I have a feeling it is because i have to use a Displayport - HDMI 2.0 adaptor on my Nano to get 4k / 60hz, and although it only takes seconds to switch it can be annoying.

anyone have the outside measurements of the legs on the 55"? My tv stand is just over 43".

thanks!
I don't think it will fit, unfortunately. The legs are about 45-46" apart at the widest point.

Oddly enough, the 65" would (just barely) fit because of the alternate/inner leg spacing. Not sure about the 60".

Yeah I bought and returned two 60s because because they fit on my 43.4" TV stand. Returned both because of really bad light bleed on the bottom left and I heard those arent Samsung panels. Have a 55" on the way though and it looks like I have to buy furniture to fit it on. :(

Anybody done there research and know what is the cream of the crop for uhd hdr movies?

Im probably going to buy one just so i have something to watch. I cant sit and wait a month for a sale to save 10 bucks.

So without using voice how quick is it to change the channel number with the remote seeing as you have to do the prompts on screen? Is it a faff about or as quick as it would be pressing physical buttons on a normal remote (and can you buy a normal remote for it)?

Also, how snappy is the OS at changing live TV channels over? Or is there a lag to it?

Wait what? I just bought the 60 inch. Did I get a shitty version or something?

The Revenant. No question about it.

I have a question about the KS8000 and the PS4/PS4 Pro. I'm having a very weird problem and was curious if anyone else has had it.

Basically I've narrowed down that the communication between my KS8000 and PlayStation systems causes a frequent visual distortion on the television.

I've done just about every test to try and diagnose the problem, but it's led me to the fact that it's just the TV and PS4 connectivity (it happened on my PS4 and now my PS4 Pro, only on the KS8000).

I've tried different cables, different ports, bypassing AVRs, etc. The fact that both the PS4 and the Pro do it makes me confident it's the KS8000 (but no other device I use with the TV has the same distortion).

Basically the colors on screen will randomly shift and have a degaussing kind of effect that renders some color channels black and white and some color channels to stretch out of sync. It's very hard to explain with words, but it does this for a second or two and then returns to normal picture. It kind of looks like certain color channels are getting turned off and the channels are pulling out of alignment. It looks a lot like an analog video error, which is super weird.

It will do this no matter what I'm doing with the PS4. It will do it randomly. Sometimes every few minutes, sometimes every few tens of minutes, etc. It's not predictable and nothing seems to be directly causing it.

Has anyone here experienced anything like this? It seems like a very specific Sony PS4 to KS8000 error, but I've never seen anything like it and it kind of bugs me. I don't think a warranty claim would be easy since it's so irratic and I can't reproduce it on command. And it's ONLY with my PS4.

Hopefully someone here might be able to help...

The Revenant. No question about it.

Well i really enjoyed it on netflix. That site shows it as nearly 4k. But im assuming even the nearly 4k stuff looks good?

I just want whatever shows the full and complete potential of the tv in film thats out now.

The Revenant
Lucy
The Shallows
Pacific Rim
Sicario
Batman V Superman

All top notch. And don't let anyone fool you into thinking that a film has to be native 4k to look good. Many 4k upscales look superior to native 4k titles. Bitrate and proper HDR implementation play a huge role.

I do think The Revenant and Lucy are head and shoulders above any other release right now, though.

Yeah, that "real or fake" site is kind of silly considering how important the medium being used to screen the film is – real or fake 4K isn't going to make a lick of difference if the disc is mastered poorly or the bitrate is low.

Reading reviews for the discs themselves is the best way to determine quality. And if it's not a disc, it doesn't really matter because no stream is going to look as good as a 4K Blu-ray – you're going to be compromising one way or another.

Wait what? I just bought the 60 inch. Did I get a shitty version or something?

Well a few people had reported that Samsung outsources the 60 inch panels but reviews are good for it though but both of mine had light bleed on the bottom left. I was thinking of keeping the 2nd one but when I did a white screen test, the left part of the screen was all yellow.

check out hidefdigest and bluray.com for reviews. I like revenant, supposedly most of the movie is filmed with natural light and it looks great.

I believe fallout has a pro patch in the works right?

Yep - this is regular old, boring Fallout 4. It was the videogame equivalent of a shotgun to the face. Hope I'm still working through the DLC when the Pro patch hits.

Ignoring the whole "not real 4K" thing, there are breakdowns of every release so far on that website, with recommendations for amazing demonstration movies.

I picked up Lucy, because the movie looks good and I haven't seen it, plus it's one of their demo picks. The Revenant isn't my kind of film, but the UHD BD is supposed to be the best of the best at showing off your equipment.

Also, re my OneConnect issues - apparently completely resolved. Maybe the port needed to be "worked in" somehow? Unplugged and plugged it in again; no problems at all.

Apple TV seems to need to be power-cycled whenever I reset the OneConnect (not when I turn off the TV, just when I unplug and reconnect the OneConnect box). Aside from that, everything seems to be behaving exactly as it should be.

Re the motion/judder issues discussed earlier in the thread - not sure if that poster resolved his issue, but I'm seeing none of them, and I also come from a decade of solid plasma. If something's making you say "our old TV didn't do this", something's not right. There's nothing my old plasma did that this TV doesn't seem to do better. All the issues I've seen on other LCD TVs that put me off the tech over the years seem to have been resolved; and again, I'm not using any of the various processing options the TV offers.

I'm torn as to whether I like HDR on Infamous Second Son on this TV. It seems crisp but somewhat darker, even with the brightness slider turned up.

Connected an external HDD (USB) with some HDR samples. .mp4 and .ts. Could not find the files. Just showed up as an empty folder. Any reason?

EDIT: Okay now the Life of Pi and Wonderland samples showed up but not the LG ones. Weird.

Am I going to have to change settings every time I enter HDR?!

Exactly. It's just an infamous issue. That's why I turned up Dynamic Contrast for this game to medium and Gamma to +2. Only HDR game I have I've done this for.

You're getting youtube hdr on 1150?

I'm not getting the "HDR Video is Playing" message but it clearly looks like HDR is enabled due to the colors and brightness. The sun, etc is super bright, etc.

Am I an idiot?

Can someone on 1150 do a search on YouTube through their TV for "The HDR Channel" and confirm that HDR is working? It looks like HDR to me.

You don't get a notification but you should see HDR next to 4K or HD at the top.

If you press the central circular button on the mini remote, as well as telling you the resolution and scan type (i/p) of the current input, it will also indicate HDR if HDR is being received and processed.

The real or fake 4K bullshit drives me nuts.

Hey all!

I just picked up my copy of the KS8000! I'm trying to set it up with my PS4 Pro and am running into some issues. When I go to 'resolution' in the PS4 settings, it tells me that 2160p - YUV420 is supported, but 2160p - RGB is unsupported. Why? Also, when I go to 'video output information', it tells me that HDR is not supported on my TV. I followed the HDR settings from the OP (backlight between 5-10, dynamic contrast off and per the RTings HDR settings, color space to native and smart LED to high). What am I doing wrong to prevent HDR from being enabled? Thanks!

DEFINITELY your HDMI cable. I had the same issue, changed it out and it solved the problem. Even thought you think the cable is good its a crap shoot. if the cable is over 12ft its a MAJOR crap shoot also. fyi

Update to 1152 if you can. It fixes the Auto Motion judder issues many were having with Cable Set Boxes. It also added Youtube HDR.

But, if you want to see the best showcase for HDR on a streaming service, watch Top Gear.... ERRRR, GRAND TOUR, on Amazon Prime.

Grand Tour has , in my opinion, the best looking HDR and 4K show on any service that is streaming. It looks like you are on the set watching them when they are just talking. And then when they showcase the cars and races... Everything is so vibrant and pretty.

How do you guys use amazon prime? I dont see the app?

Im going to pick up the revenant. Thanks guys. I really enjoyed the movie on netflix.

That cool if the update fixes the judder. Maybe theres hope for our gaming hdr fix.

Also, infamous has a fix in the works. Hdr is bugged or whatever for that game.

Will add a note about proper hdmi cable to op.

Did you get your TV fixed?

I played the same YT HDR videos on the PS4 Pro and XB1 and they clearly don't look as good or have HDR. Playing the videos through the TV app, it certainly looks like HDR even on 1150. Unfortunately if you press the middle button to check, it pauses the video so I can't verify.

Either I'm being swayed by true 4k video and the colors popping or HDR YT works on 1150.

I'll try to update to 1152 to see if there is any difference.

Edit: Updated and OK, I can see a difference. It looks I was just being swayed by 4k and 60fps. One thing that is interesting to note is the TV YouTube app is incredibly superior in video quality to the PS4 Pro and XB1 even before the firmware update. Strange that a TV is more optimized and seemingly has more power to run YT than a full fledged console.
