KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

because some people like details? clouds is just a simple example. it affects more than just clouds. like i said, it's your tv, set it up however you like. all i did was explain what DC does. you asked the question, i answered.

My point was that it's still a bit confusing. (not necessarily right or wrong) I get crushed blacks for example. You don't see ANYTHING in that case. But with dynamic contrast OFF you might get a bit more detail in spots, but the whole image looks washed out. (At least to my eyes)

My only recommendation for newcomers with this TV and tweaking settings is to start with a base Rtings settings (with the exception of the Color Space, This is definitely Auto unless you like over saturated colors) then a tweak of AVS settings. AVS is more open when it comes to ranges, like 0-20 sharpness for example. Then finally, tweak the things you feel need tweaking. Don't use Cable TV as your content test, because you will fiddle forever. What this TV does is show how ugly Cable really is for some channels, and compression artifacts, MY GOD.

With that said, setup however you like to be honest, it is your TV, these settings by websites, and or people on forums are what they think its best for them, and their eyes. I tweaked as much as I could, and will live with what I have.

Thank you for this advice! I couldn't get through their CS line today and just googled their local office's phone number. They only deliver between 8-5 so I had to pick this coming Friday. My fingers are crossed that there will be no issues!

Ouch. I hope everything gets sorted out for you without much more issue.

No problem! I got the number for the local freight company who is taking over for AGS (I guess they farm out the last mile) and the TV is on the truck and should be here within 1-2 hours they said. Amazing. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that everything is in good condition when it arrives.

If I had known the free shipping option would be this archaic I would have spent the extra $50 for FedEx.

Edit: I also ordered an 850 Evo SSD from the EPP on black Friday with the free shipping option, and it was sent FedEx and will be here today. So YMMV on how they ship.

Goddammit, I can't get the Amazon Prime app to work. I just finished setting up my KS7090 and wanted to check out the Grand Tour in HDR. The app simply doesn't start :(
I'm on firmware 1142 and can't update.

I've just got my set today and I can't even download the Amazon app, it's giving me a Samsung server error message.

so here is an example of what black crush does, i was watching a horror film about a month ago, and in this scene which is pretty dark, the lady was looking into her closet because she isnt sure if something is there or if she's tripping because she hasn't been able to sleep for a few days.. If i had dynamic contrast on i would of only seen the color black inside the closet, but, with DC off it is still dark, but you can see an outline of a figure. If the director didn't want the viewer to see anything, then it would be just black no matter if you have DC on or off. Black detail isn't the only thing though. DC can change the colors and make them look unnatural. Bright lights will bloom too much and wipe out detail. It can also cause color banding.

As far as washed out, i'm not sure, i'm not getting a washed out picture, but then again i have been using my dads tools and software to calibrate all my tvs in the last 15 years.

If you have been using vivid settings with all your previous tvs, you might be accustomed to it. There is nothing wrong with that, set your tv to what you like.

I picked up this TV a couple of days ago, and I'm loving it. I always calibrate a new TV, and some of the examples in the OP were very helpful. HDR is a game changer; hell it's as impressive if not more so than the resolution bump. I'm seeing colors I've never seen before, and ROTTR is kind of blowing my mind.

High five!

Again, I'm asking in regards to games. I won't be able to test movies out fully until the 4K movies I ordered arrive.

What does the Energy Saving icon refer to with the Standard preset? Some stuff looks really good under that setting, but I imagine it has some compromises since people don't seem to recommend it.

most people dont recommend it becauase it adds too much blue. if you like the way standard looks, then try to turn off all the eco settings. So the picture doesnt auto dim.

DF says the auto options are unreliable and recommends:
Limited PS4 - LOW TV
Full PS4 - NORMAL TV

We're now right back where we started on Page 37 or so. These discussions are happening in cycles.

You will be able to tell immediately when Auto/Auto isn't working. It hasn't not worked for gaming yet. I was a proponent of Full/Normal for awhile, but now I just use Auto on the TV for when I switch to different, non-PS4 sources.

Make sure the plug is all the way in on the back of the tv. May have to put just a little more elbow grease than youre comfortable doing.

Well it worked but my TV IS DEFINITELY FUCKING DAMAGED.

GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT.

A whole slew of vertical lines on the left side of the panel. I'm so fucking pissed I can't express. I waited two fucking weeks for this. Now I'm going to have to return it.

Wow, just wow. That sucks bro, I feel for you.

Anybody have any info on this? https://imgur.com/a/IqzQ4

I can't see how I would have damaged it in setup. I did everything as instructed and it was all fairly easy.

Honestly? I kind of feel like I could cry.

Damn, I'm sorry dude, that really sucks. I know how long you've been waiting. Wish there was more we could do, but unfortunately I think you're only option is to return it and ask for overnight shipping on the next one as compensation.

I understand your disappointment, but calm down. Electronics are like that, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. Return it and better luck next time. It looks like somebody screwed it during tranportation.

Update if anybody cares:

I opted not to go the trade in route since it's such a fucking hassle but I talked to tech support for like 45 minutes and they scheduled a technician to come next Tuesday or Wednesday to inspect it.

They'll take a look at it and see if my damage is covered under warranty. I'm not totally convinced they won't try to pin it on me but the tech support guys said if the exterior of the tv looks perfect (which it does) it is more likely to be covered.

Maybe it's because I'm so bummed right now but I'm not very hopeful. A panel repair (if I had to pay) would bring this back up to full price -- which is not something I can afford. In which case I'll live with a substantially fucked up panel for the rest of it's years. I don't know if I could handle that.

If it is in warranty they'll replace the whole TV or the panel. We'll see.

My last resort is to put it on Craigslist for exactly what I paid, noting the damage, and hope somebody bites at the deal of it being $200 off. Again, not optimistic.

Sigh. Guys, I am so beyond bummed. So many things are going wrong in my life recently and this just adds to it. It was supposed to be a victory. It's just another hurdle.

At least you weren't me and knocked over this tv 2 weeks old moving in your new couch.

Still finishing up with insurance over it.

Why wouldn't this be in warranty? You just got it.

Man that sucks, I'm sorry dude.

This is a prime example of why I still don't order big electronics online. I just don't trust ups/usps/fedex to not fuck something up.

Sorry Tetra.

After some shipping confusion/asshattery similar to what you experienced my tv was delivered. I set it up and everything is working 100% as expected.

:(

Damn, man... I'm so sorry. :(

I hope things turn out well for you in the end my friend.

That some serious horseshit right there. Unfortunately, it happen sometimes. I myself was extremely worried about my set and I lucked out. I wish you the best Tetra I truly do. Don't worry, things will sort themselves out for you.

Can't you just return the TV for a refund? Say it was damaged when you got it.

Mine is showing up tomorrow, do you need "4K" HDMI or is that bullshit? Also, is the panel lottery still a thing? If you what I am looking for on the 49" version?

Not bullshit at all, you need a 2.0 HDMI cable

Panel lottery is still very much a thing, can get an AU Optronics (aa02) or Samsung Panel (ff01). AU Optronics is preferred.

I've heard arguments that both are better than each other and panel lottery was a heavy influence on that. Some people saying they have perfect FA01 and some people saying they have perfect AA02, and some saying they have issues on both. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to whether or not one is consistently better.

Even if it takes more time, you're better off returning it. You should never put up living with receiving broken new items.

This is my first time ordering a TV online but don't Samsung deliveries have white glove service? Is it better if I just let the AGS guys (or whoever will be delivering) just unbox the TV for me and hook it up to ensure that it didn't break during transit?

Fair enough, I can vouch for my AA02, it's perfect :p

Ummmm I don't know what country you live in or how you paid but don't put up with any bullshit. If the new TV you ordered came not working, its not "your fault" and there is nothing to discuss on the warranty. Shit came damaged, shit goes back for a full refund or replacement. No discussion, no pointing fingers at UPS or whatever its between Samsung and the shipping company, not your problem.

Thats why you always pay with a credit card, they got your back on situations like this.

It sucks having to waste the time in dealing with it but I really wouldn't bother with a tech coming out, the TV set should go back for a full replacement or refund, those are the only two outcomes you should accept.

Ha, I have an AU Optronics panel myself and the only reason I wanted that one was because of the article rtings wrote on the matter. I prefer better contrast ratios every single time -especially for HDR purposes- as opposed to better viewing angles.

Full agree with Tears on this one Tetra. Absolutely no way you should just accept this. See what the tech says and hopefully that works out for you. If not get back on the phone with Samsung and set it up so you can get a replacement or a full refund.

I think that would cost you more if they hook it up?

Got mine from EPP today via AGS. Set looks good. Weird thing is that my PS4 video settings said Hdcp 2.2, but when I switched uhd on for my PS4 input the screen went black. If it's 2.2 it should work, right? The cable is a couple years old but says high speed on it.

Tried another cable I had lying around and it fixed it. It's a weird cable with a braided sleeve but hey it works. Still says Hdcp 2.2 in my PS4 video settings, but now when I turn on uhd on the tv for that input it works.

Problem is I don't have any HDR games, lol. I mostly play online shooters and none of the new ones appear to support HDR.

Edit: can anyone point me to the beta firmware and patch notes that I have seen people mention? Google is failing me right now.

Edit 2: Ok just looking at the ps4 dash up close, this reminds me of the difference between the iPhone 3g and the iPhone 4s with retina display. When I got that 4s back in the day I was blown away by the clarity of the display, and now this is how I feel about this TV/PS4 pro combo. Haven't even booted up any games yet, still fiddling with settings.

Is anyone else noticing that the color space needs to be set to native in FF XV for the colors to not look neon-ish? I'm using HDR.

I'm guessing something is wrong in your settings bc auto is where color space should be.

Are your settings close to the op. What's different.
