Hunts are technically quests, open main menu, quests, click the hunt to track it.
I know, which is why I'm more inclined to like this soundtrack, but I like Xenoblade's a lot as well.
I think we can all agree that XCX's ost was butt.
Just finished Chapter 4 and started Chapter 5, 18h clocked, lv 30. Chapter 4 gave me Versus flashbacks but...

After 2010 Nomura has directed Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (Metacritic 75) and Kingdom Hearts Unchained X (Metacritic 70). Again, I'm not saying Nomura is worthless; I'm just not sure where the intense affection and faith in him is coming from unless it's nostalgia for Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 - which is fine, but perhaps not a good guarantee of future games he directs turning out strong.

Even if we talk about Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, the original PS2 games are at 85 and 87 on meta respectively.
Some people here are expecting VII: Remake to deliver 90+ meta and don't get me wrong, I would love for it to hit that score, but I just don't have that high expectations of it doing so.

I'm about four hours in. Like the game a lot. One question: is there an alternative to using libra in wait mode to figure out an enemy's weakness? I don't want to have to constantly go to into the menu to switch between active/wait.

I typically like Japanese dubs and really like XV's. People usually tend to overlook some overacting in Japanese dubs and I think that's fine too. Everyone has their preference. But it is good to see so many like the English localization.
Some people love Sawano. His music is way easier to swallow if you haven't heard it before. It's the same thing every time if you have though.

Yes, I mean, I don't think japanese dubs are bad, it's just the way they express themselves while talking is differently to us and it's harder to me to get used to (not saying this just based on watching japanese dubs but when I was there for a month).

this is a glaring issue that i noticed too... you should be able to target enemies to view their weaknesses while in the item menu.

Just started this last night and am currently at Chapter 2 after six hours. I'm loving it.
The increased danger at night time and the limit on fast-travel makes me plan my days out accordingly: drive, gather, explore, hunt, return to camp. Level up, have a meal, browse the photos, go to bed, repeat! It's a simple loop and I can see how people might dislike this, but I just find it so relaxing. The lads are really great company and they make the life-sim aspects a joy to participate in. After some time with the combat I'm understanding it and enjoying the flow (still using Wait Mode and taking my time to think about tactics). I can see myself putting a lot of hours into this world.
I understand the complaints regarding the cutscene direction and overall editing of cinematics (like the Kingsglaive scene insertions). It's not slick like the presentation of XIII. However I'm enjoying the personal interactions a lot: small scenes at the camps, in the car, out on the field, etc. This game has so much heart and I can't wait to see where the story takes me. Once I can pull myself out of the exploration and side quests, that is.
Also Prompto is such a sweetheart ;m; I thought he'd be irritating like a Rikku/Selphie/Vanille of the group but he's actually great. I find the whole group dynamic to be very good in general - way beyond my initial expectations.

They actually get shorter, from my experience. But mad rushing through the story is not the point of this game, imo.

Im at 14 hours beginning ch5. Thing is that is mainly side stuff, when I just focussed on the Chapter itself its an hour or so max. I dont mind since there is a boatload of shit to do in the game, just not used to a FF game having such miniscule story content.

type c is the best... my only issue with it is locking on while phasing... it's physically impossible.
Ignis takes the cake with his punnery. Like 99% of his lines are puns.
I have Dragon's Dogma on at least two platforms and MUST give it a try after this if there are similarities! Honestly open-world JRPGs are a relatively new pleasure for me, never thought I'd get into them.

I'm 20 hrs in, level 27, and story wise have done nothing for chapter 3, except for starting it.
I'm loving it.
There seems to be a weird dichotomy between story impressions that I'm not sure how to interpret. Are the people who hate it mostly upset at the presentation? I'm only on ch. 2, but so far it seems to have the makings of a pretty solid (albeit generic) story that makes a decent amount of sense, though the presentation is pretty choppy and feels incomplete/unfinished. So far though, it seems to have more potential than the mess that was XIII's story, which was not only presented poorly but also had terrible characters and a terrible ending.
The only one actively defending it in here is a third through. Not many like it. It's incomplete and much worse than 13s story, but the ending has a nicer touch I guess, while the rest of it is a nonsensical ride of setpieces and such.
It's presented badly and not exactly a good story regardless.
It really lacks establishing scenes. The game's story just pushes forward without really explaining why. It had potential to be great, but a lot of it feels cut/disjointed and I just imagine the person directing the cutscenes to look like this

Well to be fair people might have tried to go there but that shit was dangerous and pretty deep in there.
Ya echo'ing the above poster, I sitll don't rank it in my top 5 FF stories (maybe not even top 10) and admittedly only at chapter 2, but it's already leagues better than FFXIII which was a dumpster fire. The main issue I see here is the presentation of the story itself is the issue, but the main gang really makes up for it.

FYI the general is the same that appeared in the Crown trailer tormenting child Luna.
I guess they didn't know what to do with his completed character model and had to use it somehow....

I'm having a pretty difficult time getting a hang of the combat in this game. Maybe I'm thinking of it too much like a character action game, but I don't feel like I can dodge very effectively, especially because enemy attack animations are usually hard to spot. And when should I be using magic? It's seems very weird that I can "run out," and that there's friendly fire.
Lol, if you mean me then that's just false. There are plenty of others who have been saying since the early release of the game that they loved it all the way through.
I am fully prepared to change my view of the game takes a dive, but the game is divisive in every regard. Just as many showing love where others find flaw.
Also the fact that I'm only a third of the way through is also telling of this, as I've loved every minutes so far where others have said it's been bad since the beginning (story wise). Therefore it leads me to believe it really just is a matter of opinion.
I do agree it's disjointed, but I still find it engaging and enjoyable.

The tone of the chapter was quite good, the way everyone is so quiet around Ignis. I made camp so had that scene where they are helping him out and just quietly sitting and then Prompto says that he took some pictures (only 3) and asks if Noctis wants to look at them, to which Noctis just says No.
Then near the end you have a powerful conversation. I wonder what happens if you don't bring Ignis along though, whether the feel of the chapter changes and what happens to that conversation where Ignis makes a statement.

oh man do it, you're in for a treat. Amazing game. The open world is pretty similar IMO, it shares the same night themed dangers and overall feel. Combat is more action based but it's AMAZING.
