The characters in the early version of the game was so much better designed. Hell Gladius had a fucking t shirt on and Prompto didnt look like a complete tard.

Hell even Noctis looks better in every way.

WHAT HAPPENED SE?

So sad to see what they did to my beloved FF game. I am enjoying this one sure, but its nowhere nere as good as it should have been. Where are the towns? the town we were given was horrible, small and nothing to do in it.

The way various themes blend together based on context is sublime. When you go from running to walking/swimming as a Chocobo the same theme plays but the instruments, tempo, and general composition are different and it's totally seamless. It did this at one other point but I can't exactly remember why it did it, but the music editing is outstanding.

Now just make it so I don't have to wait 4 minutes to hear the overworld theme every time.

Chapter 11 spoilers and story related questions.

Why is Ignis injured? When did this happen? Why am I in the middle of no where and why am I going into a mine?

Also what happens if I don't bring Ignis along?

Take him, he got injured when the party separated at atlissia remember? I guess the dlc ep should expand on it who knows.. a lot of shit happens offscreen

Dunno for the last two, but for the first two, seems like the perfect point to insert a dlc. We know when but we don't know the how. The when was
at the city when your group split up
.
I wish I was kidding.

The way the characters look now would have been the way they would have looked in Versus XIII. Gladio wears a shirt in this game too.

I've been a little disappointed by the music, honestly. I feel like I've heard all the best pieces already in the demos. The town themes in particular are kinda annoying.

When was the last time Nomura made a game, let alone a console game?

(The answer is 2015: Kingdom Hearts Unchained X for mobile, and 2005: Kingdom Hearts II, respectively.)

Let me put in this way:

DESPITE the fuckery that's been around SE forever (FFXIII, FFXIV1.0 - > blocking VersusXIII which in turn blocked KH3, etc, etc), Nomura still managed to put out at least a game almost every year since 2002 (only skipped 2003, 2006 and 2011), not to mention all of his other roles (e.g., character designer, creative producer for Dissdia, Type-0, CCFF7, etc, meaning he conceived some of those projects even though he wasn't the director) in other projects.

I know Tabata is considered a savior and someone who can actually finish a game by a lot of people, but this "Nomura can't even finish games" rhetoric has to stop.

BTW, his last console game was KH2.5 in 2014 and next one will be KH2.8.

Type C is better than Type B?

It offers more control in some ways (frees up camera control in battle), but it's preference. I'm more comfortable with B personally.

Both B and C are much better than the default though, imo. Defend being on bumpers is great.

Is there better gear than that what I can buy from the merchants? I kinda feel like missing something. I'm at chapter 3.

I explored and found a 2H sword that had 370 more attack than my previous best. It wasn't a treasure, it was just a little blue sparkle in a dungeon.

All the latest redesigns that we play are based on Nomura, the original visionary of the series. The costume design are also his work since he loves Roen and made a deal with them, leading to their clothes in the final game.

You can craft everything including the ultima wep atm. Besides that, not much really. You can find stuff but nothing exactly purchasable.

I'd recommend hitting 25-30ish and just blitzing the story- you'll do fine then ^_^

I started out with Type A (Default) control scheme at first but since I have switched over to Type B. It is much more comfortable and makes more sense to me.

Type A is trashy and I wish Square was the default attack like every game nowadays (I haven't looked at B or C tbh) but I'll live because I've played KH2FM so I've used these controls before.

I agree with all but the linear part.

The way the game feels is like a series of standard FF corridors all linked together via an integrated world map. To me there's very little difference between this agame and, say, entering an area on FFVII's world map, following a linear environment till a quest is complete, then transitioning to the world map to explore again.

One way you're following a quest marker, the other you're funnelled down a linear path.

Both ways have opportunity to include story/narrative beats equally, and while FFVII (and the other games in the series similar in this regard) uses the opportunity to tightly focus the overall narrative with exposition and cutscenes equally, FFVX relies almost entirely on exposition delivered by the interactions of the four main characters and occasionally other characters.

FFVX could absolutely have used more of the former, I agree, but I don't think the fact it's open world changes much at all from the actual gameplay of the previous titles. To me it's just a matter of perception.

I completely agree with this.FFXV is ,at last, a re-creation of the PS1 formula on modern hardware.

The open world design of this game certainly isn't just following recent modern fad of open world games, its what FF should strive for in terms of building a fleshed out, sophisticated world.

Building a world for the characters to inhabit is a vital goal for a FF.FFXV is one of the very best FF in this ,very important, regard.

In XIII the characters acted against a theatrical backdrop that vaguely represented a world ,but they didn't actually inhabit and interact with that world during the game.It was a void.

What happened is they actually made the game.

Those trailers, especially the ones from 2006, weren't selling a functioning game. It was all literally just CG action scenes strung together from pre-production ideas. As the game continued to develop things got changed and dropped, as it happens with every other game (the final designs are largely Nomura's own changes over time).

If the game's development had gone swimmingly and on time nothing would've changed. Developers don't retool projects unless they're not working, they wouldn't change things just for shits and giggles.

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 is a remaster/port of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Birth by Sleep; those aren't new games. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is a port of Dream Drop Distance and some fragmentary game based on Birth by Sleep; not a new game and barely a new game.

I'm not saying Nomura is incompetent, and obviously he performs many roles at Square-Enix, but if you think he only directs masterpieces I can only assume you really like Kingdom Hearts spinoffs.

Lmao, what.

I'll clarify that I'm talking about directing a game that has actually released. Obviously Nomura was at work on Versus XIII for many years until he left that project and he's currently at work on Kingdom Hearts 3 and FF VII Remake, whenever those end up coming out.

95% are, don't worry, the non fetch questish ones are pretty easy to pick apart.

I still think the battle system is diet Kingdom Hearts, which isn't really a bad thing.

Also, the english voice acting has grown on me. It was annoying at first, but hey, you get numb to torture after a while.

He's had three games come out since 2010, not counting remakes of previous games he directed. That's not exactly a schmuck's return rate.

You guys...are now on my favorite GAF posters list.

lol to be fair I never liked Japanese dubs. They're so overly dramatic they end up sounding a little jarring to me. They don't sound natural at all to me.

Still, I think the english voice actors did a good job. Ignis sometimes is a little forced but other than that I really like it!

Yeah, I don't get the hate for the English VA. It's pretty damn good. Prompto especially. Sure, eventually hearing the same quips while running around ("It's so hot!" "Take off your jacket!") gets old, but that's not a VA issue so much as a frequency/abundance of lines issue.

I am sure SE will make FFX-3 at some point because if they want to release FFXVI, that won't be out until 2020 or later :p

Honestly, if they cut out the whole blitzball bomb, Yuna supporting Yevon again, Auron's supposed kid and that boy she was with then I think X-3 could be an interesting game. I feel that the end of the audio made me want more but I'm biased because I love Spira.

Stupid question because I haven't gone too deep into the game: Where can I craft stuff?
Cid, the quests are "building a better <item>"
Cid and his daughter have the most useful quests imo. Then again, they aren't particularly interesting. Cidny is a ton of fetch quests but they get you car upgrades, soo.

You craft spells using items as catalysts in the Elemancy menu.

Speaking with Cid allows you to access upgrade options for certain weapons (those marked with a + symbol).

Not sure if there are more options later in game.

Nah pretty much it, you can get better weapons in chapter 3 than I had for the final boss. I know some GAF members did (Kyoufu having the ultimate weapon and being a higher level than me currently in chapter 3 comes to mind)

Still waiting for my patch to be downloaded. It seems like PS4 won't download a patch in sleep mode if the game isn't fully installed yet.

Lies!

Anything Queen Yoko touches is gold!
Yes, I know she worked on OG Xenoblade, but I haven't beat this game yet and heard all the songs.

Fun fact:
The songs we love in XBC largely aren't her songs, and the ones of hers that most love are just mixes of the ACE+ songs. Kinda funny- she did some great music there, but the really notably OST there is by others!
