Seriously, thanks~

Now, I must ask- dad jokes, were those in the japanese version too?

Okay, serious answer...

Localization is always a delicate balance. Do you go the Atlus route and strictly stick to the Japanese text or do you do the XIV thing and kind of go off script? There's clearly merit in both. Sorry if that is a bit of a non-answer. It's the best way I can answer.

Is that you, Robbie!?

I'm 20 hrs in, level 27, and story wise have done nothing for chapter 3, except for starting it.

I'm loving it.

Last week I was Amy-chan (thanks Duckroll) and today I am Robbie-kun.

I'm having a pretty difficult time getting a hang of the combat in this game. Maybe I'm thinking of it too much like a character action game, but I don't feel like I can dodge very effectively, especially because enemy attack animations are usually hard to spot. And when should I be using magic? It's seems very weird that I can "run out," and that there's friendly fire.

Try thinking of it sort of turn based in the sense that you have a defense status and an attack status. If you hold the dodge button you will be in defense and dodge almost everything, there isn't much of a timing aspect outside of picking and choosing when to attack and get back to defense or warping away from battles if things get a bit hectic. Earlier in the game I was pressing dodge multiple times but i eventually found it's much more effective to hold the button and plan out your next move such as whether to use a technique or pick out an enemy low on life and go after it.

Also I haven't used magic much but when I have it doesn't seem to cause too much friendly fire damage and prompto has a technique to group enemies together which can be effective. It's also useful to toss at enemies before the battle starts if they are grouped together.

Is anyone else having trouble with getting the monster to spawn for the hunt "Raindrops in the Night"? Tried several times and watched videos and it just isn't appearing where it should be.

Its the HR 2
jumbo flan
hunt from Hammerhead for reference.

Edit: yes I went at night.

Late response to this but did you ever figure this out? I accepted this Jumbo Flan hunt and ran around for two nights but it will not spawn.

So I bought a recipe in Ch.1 that gives 10%exp boost which I know isn't great but have a question regarding use. Is it best to use a XP boost recipe before doing anything at all (hunts/sidequest) or can I simply eat right before resting and it has the same result overall?

What of the "treasures" tab can I sell?

Any of it, just try to keep 1-2 at least in case it's required for crafting.

The game is designed so you have to actively manage your stock of materials for use BA how much you sell for Gil.

You'll get a feel for it as you go.

Without spoilers, I know you need to stay at a 2x Hotel at the end of Chapter 1. At least I know someone said that. Could anyone tell me what to look out for when I know I'm getting close? I kind of want to save my exp for that.

The only one actively defending it in here is a third through. Not many like it. It's incomplete and much worse than 13s story, but the ending has a nicer touch I guess, while the rest of it is a nonsensical ride of setpieces and such.
It's presented badly and not exactly a good story regardless.
Highly disagree here. It is not 'incomplete' as much as it has events happening off-screen. It also lacks in presentation but the end of the game clear up majority of the concept and I guess if people paid more attention to the narrative exposition, they might have a better idea of some of the events.

lol. Anyway, I hope you're right Ruruja, I really want to like this game but my heart can't take another XIII.
Don't worry. It certainly isn't worse than XIII in term of story.

This is good to hear. I'm curious how much of the off screen stuff you're talking about was covered in the extra media for the game, and if some people who are disliking it avoided that stuff.

That kind of sounds like the definition of an incomplete and poorly told story.

I can think of like one piece of media in the past decade that has a major off-scene event where having it off-screen actually made for a sensible, complete story (No Country for Old Men).

I'm having a love/hate relationship with this game at the moment.

I love atmospheric it can be and how fun it is.

I hate how there is no great story at the moment that makes me want to push onwards (only in chapter 3 btw).

I love how ridiculously epic the fishing music is.

I hate the battle system/camera when you fight more than 3 agressive ennemies, it goes all over the place.

I love when I am fighting big solo ennemies.

So I played the game until I got the car
fixed
and then did a few hunts and stopped. I have since watched Brotherhood and just started Kingsglaive. Kingsglaive is
happeing at the same time as the game now?

Majority of the off-screen stuff feels like it was 'cut' for DLC purpose sadly. Like they ran out of time and thought, lets make it DLC for the game. 2 birds with one stone.

No, it's a design choice. Instead of being actively involved in the events of the overarching narrative, we're being told the story from the fringes from the pov of a group outside of the main events.

We get our information from the conversions he group has, radio stations, listening to conversations, reading newspapers, etc...

It might not be as effective as it can be at times, but the concept is fine.

To quote myself, I figured this out. I reset the game and it spawned where it was supposed to. I think it was a bug or something where the game didn't register that it was night time for some reason. This time when I did it Iron Giants were popping out of the ground and that didn't happen at all before I reset it.

these retrieve dog tag side quests are starting to annoy, I've defeated the mob in the area and I'm trying to comb this place for the tags, they aren't where the exclamation mark is, yet I can't search for more than 5 seconds because imperial mobs and others spawn in constantly and reloading doesn't fix it

Again like Nomura, when has Nojima last made a game that received outstanding praise? Or written a story for that matter?

I honestly feel like people build this personality of their favorite game developer like it is something else while they refuse to look over their recent work. Nomura doesn't guarantee 90+ game that can get universal acclaim, and the same applies to Kitase and Nojima.

The only one I still have some faith in is Hiroyuki Itou. Even Sakaguchi has failed to do something substantial after FF.

I don't really see your point? I liked most of the classic FF games they were apart of. I like Kingdom Hearts enough, i really loved Compilation, which they were both apart of. I liked what i saw of Versus, and so i really don't really see why i should be scared or pretend like i am not anticipating FF7R?

At worst, they'll make a game i really enjoy like i have their previous games.

Nomura had been apart of 18 games in various roles between 06 and the time FF15 announcement. Its not as if he's not a hard worker.

That's not true though, there are multiple examples of the point of view being third person rather than from Noctic's group. The game tells whatever source it feels like and doesn't fill you in on shit your group would actually know about.

It's completely inconsistent.

I kind of wish they had a wait timer so you can speed through the time instead of waiting the next morning ,right now im hording XP to lvl up faster at the expensive 10k hotel

They also obviously repurposed some assets because they didn't know what to do with them.

Like the two imperial generals Loqi and the other older one.
Like I said in my previous post, the second one was supposed to be seen mistreating child Luna, but it never happens.

I've not noticed this at all.

I mean here have been cutscenes of flashbacks and third parties, but so far (Kingsglaive cutscene at the start aside) they're all felt properly placed.

Can you give me a few examples of this happening anywhere from the start of the game to chapter 5 please?

I forgot that nothing in the Crown demo even actually takes place in the game :/ I remember tons of speculation on that about what could have been happening in that scene

Chapter 11 spoiler

The tone of the chapter was quite good, the way everyone is so quiet around Ignis. I made camp so had that scene where they are helping him out and just quietly sitting and then Prompto says that he took some pictures (only 3) and asks if Noctis wants to look at them, to which Noctis just says No.

Then near the end you have a powerful conversation. I wonder what happens if you don't bring Ignis along though, whether the feel of the chapter changes and what happens to that conversation where Ignis makes a statement.

Just gets me salty because the premise got so much potential but Tabby did what he could

I'm laughing at them putting this level 5 quest item right outside a level 57 dungeon. I screamed when that samurai thing just swiped through me and I was one-shotted to the bottom of the mines. Just terrifying.
Exactly!! I fell to the bottom and he disappeared so I assumed he was there just to scare the player but then I ran into him later while exploring and I was like NO THANKS and ran straight for the elevator. I didn't realize what level he was until the second encounter and I laughed.

I legitimately hope Malik's right and some of these scenes get included in DLC episodes. I hope there's more DLC than the character episodes. A Chapter 11.5 or something. 13.5. You know, add some more meat to the back half. It'd be neat.

But that "new area" after the episodes sounds more focused on offering some great open world content. Eh, it'll be cool, but I'm in this for aspects of the game that need considerable tightening.

not me
That's what I'm thinking. I'm hoping I just missed something but so far nada.

Get Ignis' Analyze skill and once he uses it in battle (not sure if it just happens or you need to kill one enemy first) then you can lockon to an analyzed enemy and the weaknesses will pop up like in wait mode.

Am I missing something with the combat?

I want to play it like an action game but it is just so frustrating. The animations are overlong, there is no easy way to predict enemy attacks and the camera is pure shit.

Do I just need to get used to it?

Any decent tutorials out yet?

Wow ... I am playing chapter 6 and what happened was just ridiculous.

I finished the empire base assault when you fight Aranea.

WTF was with this "capture the general" bullshit ?? Just why ?

You sneak around to finally capture him , I don't know what for ...

And then you leave him with Ignis who says "don't worry I'll take care of him".

And 5 minutes later, he comes back alone and says "well ... he escaped"

Noctis is like "ok whatever ..."

What the hell ?!

FYI the general is the same that appeared in the Crown trailer tormenting child Luna.

I guess they didn't know what to do with his completed character model and had to use it somehow....

Yeah, this was really bad lol

The narratives of this game are just... there. Most of them don't make any sense so don't even try getting invested in the story. Just enjoy the main cast and gameplay stuff like I do.

I think the biggest problem is even when something major does happen there's no reason for the viewer to really care. There's no build up, no reason to become emotionally invested.

Several scenes have fallen completely flat for me because of this very reason.
