Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

i agree with this. square should have made this a trilogy. flesh out the story of the first seven chapters as the first game. Accordo should have been a full continent like lucis.

Nothing happens in the first seven chapters.

This game didn't need to be a trilogy.

It needed to be a properly told and paced story.

Witcher 3 proves it is very possible. This is Final Fantasy, I don't want to settle. I believe they could make an open world game with a decent story and set pieces. It's just a shame that they couldn't due to having another team take over a project that was failing. They did the best they could have within their allotted time frame.

Luna and Noctis are pen pals at best, but the game wants you to think they're deeply in love.

Again, it's a crappier version of The Lake House. The ending should've been the camp scene, the two of them together shouldn't have made it into the ending at all.

Yeah as i said earlier it just wasnt earned at all. It actually hurt the bros relation not even having them there

So what is Prompto trying to say he is, after Chapter 13? He says MT, which if I understand right are the Robots with Daemons possessing them? So what, is he some sort of lifelike robot or a test tube baby with a daemon inside him?

I also know he is that evil guy you see once's son supposedly, but it could just mean he 'made' him?

Regalia Type-F? What is this hard to control, mess of a batmobile lol. I appreciate it SE but I'm good. Would have really liked black chocobos for me and my bros. Dlc maybe?

Mummy ;-;

Fuck that place. I was sure after the second time I was fucking it up somehow but no, the other stones don't activate unless you go down them in order and it's the last one that gives you a choice that then leads to the right place. And to make it worse I went in the first time under levelled and got lucky with summons and cheese before deciding to come back later only when I did come back hours later and almost 20 levels better I had to do that room another 3 or 4 times so I could go to the boss. The worst part was that when I decided to come back when I was stronger I was on the last block tunnel :(

So what is Prompto trying to say he is, after Chapter 13? He says MT, which if I understand right are the Robots with Daemons possessing them? So what, is he some sort of lifelike robot or a test tube baby with a daemon inside him?

Who knows or cares. SE didn't care enough to actually develop it in any way and it's just mentioned and ignored and never brought up. Best to just ignore it and goo back to assuming something like Prompto's parents died or were super busy which is why he lived alone as a kid and was super fat. The whole Prompto being an MT (which is basically demon in robot armour that blocks out the sun) is just stupid.

FFXV may have finally released, but the true figure is still hidden in the sleep. This was in fact a dream fabricated by the true Noctis and Stella mid-slumber concocting a world in which they were on the same side and worked together to purge an evil that was simple to understand.

Seriously though, there is something incredibly deep and dark to uncover with the original dream motif that is met only halfway here. I wish more of the thematic vision found manifestation in the end, but in the same time, it never left -- it's all still there, fragmented and rearranged. For me it creates a powerful end result, like everything in the end is reduced to a blur, but one that tells a simple tale of friendship above all else while trying to protect that spirit, that heart, from the shadowy unrealized depths of its past renditions. It's fascinating how this game became such a thing of its own, evolving over reiteration after reiteration, and I need time to dissect it.

A lost game forever cursed by insomnia...

Tabata's and Square Enix's somnambulist fantasy.

To be cont.

Yeah, a LOT of things are either glossed over or ignored. Like the scene on the train where Noctis is trying to literally murder Prompto (Who Noct is fooled to think is Ardyn) yet when the illusion is dropped, Prompto acts like he didn't just almost get murdered by his friend 2 seconds ago. Unless it is Ardyn just switching his Illusions all the bloody time? Who the hell knows.

This game's story is a mess - it's honestly a fucking miracle the ending still got me choked up. The logo and new title screen was a nice touch too.

It's interesting that they ditched Mega/Giga/Tera Flare for Bahamut, who is also now a human dragon knight instead of a dragon, for "Ultima Sword". Not quite as satisfying as nuking the planet from orbit. And they totally blue balled us on giving us those summons.

Ardyn needed a second form - the whole thing was a dressed up QuickTime event.

Picking a goofy picture must run the entire mood of the ending though. "Look Luna, Cup Noodle!"

The gameplay, as janky as it is with lists upon lists of potential QOL that should have been included in the first rounds of playtesting, still carries this game hard.. They just squandered it as often as humanly possible.

Interesting, wasn't it Megaflare in Spanish? version anyway? May be a localization dodge.

Lol, no it wasn't.

Are you for real? The first phase you hold a button and use a potion if he ever knocks you out.

Second phase is a bullshit hold/mash buttons watch explosions and fly around, same as Leviathan. Has literally nothing to do with your stats or gear.

Third phase is hold button a little longer unless you want to hear his lines.

Then it ends with pressing O a dozen times in a QuickTime event.

So let's recap - hold O and occasionally use potions, hold O, hold O, O QTE.

That'd be weird considering he never fires a single flare...

I think the second phase (and Leviathan fight) was pretty cool in concept, but was just executed terribly. It was kinda like playing ZOE game which is perfectly fine for me but it was poorly made so you basically just mash buttons to see explosion.
As for the second phase of Arydn the flying part felt really weird....it just felt like the background was awkwardly moving instead of them actually flying through the city.

i don't think that would have been possible without at least two parts. the game is supremely ambitious. for the "impact" scenes (noctis and co learn of fathers death, noctis makes his way to Titan, the reveal of ardyn or the CG scene after luna dies, or the scene where ardyn reveals who he is) there needs to be some serious build up. the game tried to jump through too many hoops in a 25 hour span.

in addition to that, who ever had the bright idea of making character development optional scenes needs to be fired asap.

This is also the problem. The game's main story is quite short for typical JPRG as well. Post chapter 9 could have had additional 10 hours of story stuff and maybe it could have been fleshed out better than this.

Initially I agreed with most the bros died offscreen 'because Tabata' but watching that scene again I felt they might have survived and them appearing in afterlife was an image projection as the typical 'I'm not alone' thing because the bros disappeared right after that scene and unlike Luna & the kings including Regis they contributed nothing to the final blow.

The photo from Prompto as well as the parting words moment before with Noctis wishing them to "walk tall" and later telling Regis "he walked tall" right before getting stabbed look to me the bros survived this. Why that uneasy look from Prompto when asked for photo if they're joining him just minutes after? Why was Gladio crying in the camping scene if he's okay with leaving Iris behind and die together with bros?

I also don't think after hunting daemons for 10 years the bros would have problems surviving several Iron Giants until Noctis's done with his swift business.

But then again it's probably again Tabata who decided to leave this vague:/

I consider Ifrit to be the real final boss, and the Ardyn stuff is like Cloud vs Sephiroth.

If only because vs Ifrit you get to use your party you've built up over the course of the whole game.

The Ardyn fight would have been better imo if your bros woke up and came down to join you then Ardyn maybe does some demon stuff and you fight a demon version of him.

Or he summons 3 demon knights so it's a 4 on 4 and you have to take them all down before you can finish him.

Basically the final fight should have been a group battle, with the 1 v 1 just a cinematic finish to it like Cloud vs Sephiroth.

People need to remember this as a lesson for the future: Japanese companies in general, and SE in particular don't care about spoilers.

They show them all the time in their trailers. If you feel like they're playing close to their chest and not showing stuff on purpose to not spoil their audience, the most likely reason is because they've got nothing more to show. They won't be keeping half the game under wraps.

Hell, Heavensward's launch trailer spoiled the stinger for the game.

What did they spoil?

It's sad because if this was a "traditional" FF game, all of these fights would have mechanics and substance. Instead, we got "set pieces" where we run around, sometimes are scripted to get wrecked, and QTE. There's no strategy in building your party, your gear doesn't matter. It's beautiful to look at - meaningless because the story is so patchwork - but it's the game telling the player "don't worry, just sit back, we have something to show you."

...I just realized I never got a single game over.

Thanks for the answers!

"You guys...are the best"

;_;

Gladio ruined this moment for me. He had tears falling but his voice didn't show it at all. I know he's a tough guy and all, but at least let him choke up a word or two, have his voice Crack, make him clear his throat, something to show his emotions.

Fights in this game weren't really judged based on game overs, because if they did, that would mean the flying car would be the toughest boss in the whole game.

They are really judged by how much they stress your item supply. Difficult fight = more items used, less difficult fight = less items used.

The way you move through Insomnia had *nothing* to do with how or what you're doing in the "fight."
It's the next-gen, real-time version of having a fight scene over a CGI cutscene playing in the background, like the PS1 games.

Just finished the game.

I thought the story seemed perfectly acceptable up until like...Chapter 10 or so. That was when it felt like they realized they had to wrap the game up and rushed like...everything. Which is even worse when you consider how short every chapter after except for 13 was.

Also whoever designed 13 should feel bad.

Not sure if this has been talked about yet but I actually liked what they did with Ignis in Chapter 9/10.

It's not something that I think I've seen done to a party member before.

To become disabled like that, to have it affect what he did in the story, how others like Prompto had to help him walk around.

How he lagged behind trying to find his way with the walking cane.

How he would try to find enemies during battle and would sometimes fall down while trying to attack something.

I remember one time during battle he said something like "Where's the enemy?!" and Prompto said worriedly "Don't worry Ignis, we'll take care of it".

It kind of broke me a bit to see him like that. To also see him try so hard to contribute to the party and eventually managing to do so with the Libra Elementia technique against the Malboro.

That entire segment and how it affected Ignis and the party dynamic was really interesting to me.

Yea that part was quite well done imo. I did feel a bit annoyed that I had to walk slow because of this, but the way they handled his situation not only in the cutscene, but in the actual gameplay itself was great.

I did feel annoyed that I couldn't really use him anymore, since he was the only party member I gave good equipment and use the party attack with XD.

Yea I love that dynamic as well, but him getting injured felt like it came out of nowhere. There were hints early one with them making fun of his glasses and calling him specks, but we really needed to see the bros point of view during the whole Altissia thing.

I didn't think old Noctis looked like Noctis at all. Noctis looks like an anime character but old Noctis just looks like a person.

Seriously, ten years pass and all you have to show for it is that garbage "beard"

Plus he was someone who took great value in seeing the world clearly. In a car ride it's mentioned that he doesn't really need glasses, that his vision is ok without them and if they were lost or broken he could still cook, drive and fight well but he wears glasses because he wants to see things absolutely clear and it's something he prides himself on so it's super heartbreaking when he's blinded. I partly think it's cheap how he becomes Daredevil in the World of Ruin but also I think for him it makes sense, he can't see any more so he'll hone his other senses to perfection to compensate.

But yeah, I really liked the bits with him blind, it works as a gameplay thing, a character thing and a story thing. It shows Noctis the real dangers of this quest and how loyal his friends are to him, it gives tension within the group and at the end of the dungeon you get Ignis telling them all to quit acting like babies and grow up because he's dealing with it and they should too.

You get a choice before going to the quarry where you can leave him behind. Can you actually pick it? I thought about it but thought we should take him with anyway because knowing him he'd tell me how he's still more than capable and we could use his help.

I was deeply confused by the whole thing. The game asked me if I wanted to take Ignis with me and I was like, "Um... yeah?" I didn't realize until after the dungeon started that he had been injured and then I was angry because the game really should have made it clearer. Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought him along.

(Assuming the game actually gives you a choice and it isn't one of the many "here's your choice but what you pick doesn't matter" prompts you get.)

It is one of those prompts lol. I pressed "stay here" and he came anyways so

THat's why i said Tabata just have just went along with it and redesigned the entire cast's designs entirely, and scrapped Noctis's Nomura design. Noctis doesn't even look like himself 10 years later.

And looking at redesigned Regis and younger Noctis at the beginning of the game in that super realistic CGI is pure oddity

I was so confused about Ignis in Chapter 14.

Like...they say he never got his vision back, but he straight up acts like he's Daredevil or something.

In the infamous chapter 13 I remember something happening that only Ignis could hear it. I think this was a nice detail, since he's gone blind his other senses got more accurate.
