If there's anything the recent Battlefront game (of all the goddamn places) made me want, it's more insight into this part of Star Wars. I'd really like maybe some sort of a TV "Band of Brothers-esque" miniseries. Shit, maybe even an anime OVA format if it were in the right studio hands.

Have you read Battlefront: Twilight Company?

Twilight Company is by far the grittiest thing in the new canon. I hope there's a sequel, but from the Imperial perspective.

Also, I seriously wanna see more stuff about the Battle of Jakku.

Empire's End is coming. For now, there's just the short bit in Lost Stars and the Poe Dameron comic.

I think I'm actually gonna bail out on this one. I've gone into every Star Wars release of my life 100% spoiled (and happy) but if I've made it this far I might as well finish it off.

May the Force be with you, GAF!

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Same here. It seems that a lot of shit went down in that battle.

Given all the bits and pieces I gotten about it, it sounds like the true end-all-be-all battle of the OT to me.

The presentation of the Battlefront level with this huge clusterfuck of ships giving each other hell throughout the entire sky box really nails that vibe too.

The fact the two star destroyers went down in the battle shows it.

Imperials got they asses handed to them. It's sorta remarkable they were able to loose so much.

They were in complete disarray after the death of the Emperor, Vader, the destruction of the second Death Star, and a large majority of the Imperial fleet. Without their centralized leadership, they had no direction to go in but be on the withering defense.

Fools are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.
Why is the main OT open spoilers?

The fuck?

Review thread is coming up on the 13th.

But yes, this hybrid OT thing is weird, albeit somewhat liberating.
If by liberating you mean confusing and backwards. Where do people who want to talk about R1 go to discuss it spoiler free? The film doesn't even release for another four days so it seems incredibly silly to not have an official thread for hype and impressions without worrying about reading a straight up bombshell which this movie seems to have plenty of.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well. I think if you combine the OT and spoiler thread at the very least there should be mandatory spoiler tags until Friday night or something. I'm basically going to bail on this thread starting Monday whereas I otherwise would've stuck around throughout the week.

More on Kevin Smith:

Can't wait to see how it ends!!!
No offense to Kevin Smith but his reaction to a Star Wars movie might be the least valuable on the planet.

I remember him gushing over Attack of the Clones.

Fucking knew this would deliver!

Giddy as hell with hype this morning!!

Picked up my tickets last night all ready for the midnight showing this Wednesday : )

Some of these impressions are pretty encouraging. Surprising to hear so much of the trailer footage isn't in the film though. The reshoots must have changed a fair bit. I'm relieved to hear it's still quite gritty and feels like an actual war film based in the Star Wars universe.

That's a dope hockey jersey though.

Impressions seem great. If we get another movie where they didn't completely fuck it up and made something competent and good, I'll be on the moon.

Also, remember KK said they're watching reaction to this movie for future Stories, so, this could greenlight a bunch of new projects very quickly if it gets into the zeitgeist on a level nearer to TFA.

It's already going to make bank, so I feel that's going to happen. I hope they branch more on these non-Jedi focused movies. Having a X-Wing (one of the few EU series worth a damn) style movie would make me giggle.

Yeah it's a little weird that we're allowing open spoilers in the OT thread. What gives?

I think it's an issue of the Star Wars spoiler threads inevitably becoming waaaay more heavily trafficked than the main OTs. I think we hit 3 with TFA, in the end.

Can definitely understand why people would get frustrated though, maybe next time we have a Pre-release OT (with mandatory spoiler tags) and a Post-release OT (no tags)?

Spoilers aren't allowed in the Star Wars OT so you can still post there without worrying about being spoiled. The review thread will be up pretty soon as well.
The problem is that thread is dead compared to this and all impressions are being posted here. So it's hard to stay out because people want to read spoiler free impressions but they're being posted in a thread that's potentially a nuclear bomb.

I say turn this thread into non spoilers, since there's luckily pretty much none so far, and open a new spoiler thread.

Makes the most sense to me. Then when reviews come out, combine that with the spoiler thread since they go hand in hand.

It's kind of perplexing as to why this happened in the first place as pretty much all other huge films have these two threads for the sake of keeping people from being spoiled.

Alternatively, we (or I, if nobody wants to) make a spoiler-tagged review thread right now with the impressions that have come out so far, in addition to the full written pieces coming Tuesday.

That strikes me as the most crowd-pleasing solution at the moment without Quick having to trash the OT.

By contrast, you should've seen Wil Wheaton shit on the Prequels and old EU during the official SW livestream.

He wouldn't have to ditch it, just alter it. But this thread could also be slightly changed to include reviews, and someone else could create a completely spoiler free impressions and discussions thread, like we had for TFA. Of course, that thread turned unto a bit of a minefield too, but at least there were separate places to go.

Reviews are out in a few days. Gonna stick with this being a spoiler thread. Impressions have already rolled out as well. I could make a reviews thread later, unless someone wants to make it now.

I'm gonna include reviews in this thread once it's all official as well.

I'm so fucking hyped after seeing this spoiler. If it's true, man. I'm gonna squeel like a little bitch.

Apparently, there's a Vader scene where it's very similar to the classic scene in Aliens where they're getting closer, but instead? It's Vader's classic breathing. Here.
