Last thought (for now): Vader gets a moment of pure horror. Maybe more than one, arguably. #RogueOne

Like I'd post more of a concrete response to go along with that quote but my grin has spread all the way to my brain and it's paralyzing me help help

The last time I loved a Star Wars movie as much as I loved #RogueOne, it was 1977.

"Some observers in the crowd remarked afterward how surprisingly action packed and beautiful the film looked. Others noted how much they liked the new characters in the prequel, which opens next Friday.

“It was excellent,” said fan Chris Cannole. “The new characters and story lines really engaged me. It reminded me of ‘The Dirty Dozen.'”

The “Rogue One” screening began at 7 p.m. with no introduction, unlike last year when Disney Chairman Bob Iger spoke before “The Force Awakens.”

Felicity Jones, star of the film, got the night’s biggest cheers. Actors Donnie Yen and Alan Tyduk, who plays robot K-2SO, also received enthusiastic responses. The film co-stars Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

Reaction to the first public showing of “Rogue One,” which begins opening in international markets on Wednesday, will no doubt represent a relief to the multitudes of Star Wars fans. Disney’s review embargo also lifts Wednesday."

I thought it lifts on Tuesday.

I don't want to be cynical but I am always suspect of day 1 overreactions. In some write-ups you can see reviewers softball their critiques like "I'll discuss characters and flaws another day" or try to put a positive spin on (potential?) flaws like "the characters are surprisingly great!" It's hard for me to buy some of this stuff but I'll be happy to find out for myself next Thursday.

From the "more-in-line with what I expected" review angle:

#RogueOne is pulpy and fun, but it's got more plot than heart. I'd rank it fifth overall, behind Episodes IV-VII.

Hands down the most violent and gritty #StarWars you've ever seen and it's better for it. It's for kids who grew up on SW #RogueOne

Tapley on Edwards' directing:

@mardench It's different. I like what he did in Godzilla better. But he adds dimension to this franchise where it wasn't before.

BUT THERE IS A MAP ROOM !!

That makes Episode 1 even more of a failure for being the only Star Wars movie with no map room scene with people standing around plotting shit.

What? They have a map briefing scene right before the Battle of Naboo.

ESB doesn't actually have a map scene if I recall though.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

"Holy Sith! @RogueOneMovie is unbelievably wonderful! No lie: it is #EmpireStrikesBack great! An excellent chapter in the @starwars Universe!"

The closest it gets is "two fighters against a star destroyer :I"

Also, my favorite series of tweets so far:

If you shipped Poe and Finn after FORCE AWAKENS, there are 2 male ROGUE ONE characters whose vibe seemed... *more than platonic* to me

All I will say for now is that I enjoyed #RogueOne more than #TheForceAwakens. For what that's worth... #StarWars

Not reading any of the posts in here, but why does a spoiler thread have | OT | in it? It's confusing and made me think SPOILERS was part of a funny tagline, or something.

Not even sure why I'm posting, since I can't read anything in this thread, but...yeah. It's weird. Normally spoiler threads aren't listed at the OT.

It sounds so dark, will I be able to see it clearly?

3D glasses will brighten the image!

Bringing both threads together for one big, massive discussion!

Kinda been tepid on Star Wars since TFA failed to jazz me.... but I can feel the hype rising again.

Rogue One looks to be the most like my vision of the Star Wars universe as I viewed it through the lens of 90s books and video games. More of a serious universe based on military struggle rather than the whimsical fairytale adventure of the mainline films (not that I don't respect that version too).

ayyyy lmao

Was getting caught part of your plan?

If there's anything the recent Battlefront game (of all the goddamn places) made me want, it's more insight into this part of Star Wars. I'd really like maybe some sort of a TV "Band of Brothers-esque" miniseries. Shit, maybe even an anime OVA format if it were in the right studio hands.

Hey y'alls, go read the Battlefront tie-in novel, it's fucking great.

...

Yes, a video game tie-in novel
