Now someone put Bish's face on it.

Link for those who dont reddit?

Hit up r/StarWarsLeaks, it's on the first page.

Not sure if that type of thing is allowed to be posted on GAF right now...

I know GAF has rules against scans, not sure if the rule applies to cam shots/rips in GIF form. Gonna play it safe and just tell people to go to that subreddit.

Makes sense. I totally misheard the exchange in the movie last night.

I need to rewatch Ep 4's opening again then. Was Leia aware that Obi-Wan was in hiding on Tattooine and delivering the plans there? I have fuzzy memories, but I suppose she would have known if she sent a personal message to Obi with R2 after jettisoning the droids onto Tattoine after Vader boards. I suppose its only after she is rescued by Luke/Han/Obi with R2 in stow that she pushes the group to travel to Alderaan to see well...Smits.

Yeah, seeing as the recorded message she puts into R2D2 starts with the words "General Kenobi ...", and makes R2D2 use the escape pod and run off to Obiwan's hiding place - yes, she's very much aware of his whereabouts ;)

My problem with Rey is she feels rather disconnected with the plot. Even in IV Luke was already connected to the whole thing, for Rey she felt more like a straggler. Jyn obviously was central to the plot.
Luke was a bit more centred in the story, that I can agree with. I think the main issue with Rey is that they had such good characters with her. So her focus was not as strong as Luke. Still Rey is a good character that I hope they flesh out in the next title.

Yea, most of that first trailer is entirely scrapped.

I actually always expected a lot of the first trailer to not be in the final film, especially with the reshoots.

I've heard some nice shots of Vader are gone, what about some of the Death Star shots like it rising up behind the clouds?

I can't remember if thry match up with the trailers, but there are at least 3 great Death Star planet shots.

I don't really remember Vader shots missing, just maybe a little slower?

Death Star + Clouds is still in though.

So was the Vader scene part of rewrites?

I'm wondering because wasn't there talk that Vader wouldn't use his Saber? I loved that scene so much and I was pleasantly surprised when he turned his saber on but I wasn't really expecting him to use it because of those rumours.

Great!

I heard the shots of him reflected on the floor and possibly walking out of the smoke are gone?

Hmm, i forget the first one. I don't think it's in. Him walking through smoke/dry ice is still there but seems a little slower in the film vs a fast walk in the trailer.

Some of the earliest concept art that Making Star Wars saw had Vader killing rebels. I think they always planned for him to have a fight scene.

The part where he walks through the smoke is still in
And the floor of the room he's talking to Krennic is highly reflective and Vader is reflected in that floor.

So maybe the shot they used was cropped(?) from a shot that was used in the film.

This Vader scene where Krennic says "POWAH" was missing.

I wonder if they just flat out replaced this with the Mustafar scene rather than it being a separate dropped scene. This shot is clearly on the Death Star, and Krennic is being much more arrogant to Vader than in the Mustafar scene where he's intimidated.

Losing THE POWAH for Mustafar is a worthwhile tradeoff but I hope it's in the deleted scenes.

Yeah, I hope they include it. I was disappointed when people said it was cut but the Mustafar scenes were so good, I don't even mind anymore.

Weren't a few sites reporting that Vader would go to the Death Star and warn Krennic not to use the Death Star yet? It's probably that scene. Edit: Star Wars News Net discussed it a bit.

Just got back from a Manchester, England showing.

A bit of background on me first.

Empire Strikes Back is my favourite movie of all time and the OT is my favourite set of movies of all time.

The prequels were a huge disappointment to me (part of me really resents them), although I can watch them as fun pop corn movies just because they're Star Wars.

I liked The Force Awakens but thought it was a tad overrated. Much better than the prequels but not quite at the level of the OT. The Luke/Emperor/Vader scenes and the Battle of Endor give the edge to ROTJ over TFA for me.

I'd rank the released films as follows

ESB > ANH >> ROTJ > TFA >> ROTS > TPM > AOTC

....

I'm not ready to cough up my full thoughts yet but I thought Rogue One was the best Star Wars movie since 1980. This is by far the most emotional Star Wars movie, especially if you're a huge fan of A New Hope or know how film really well.

The only 'negative' for me was that it made me imagine how good the prequels could have been if they were made like this was.

It was excellent.

My advice....watch A New Hope before and after watching Rogue One, even if you know it like the back of your hand.

Haven't even seen the movie yet but even comparing the trailers to TFA's which looked fantastic I think Rogue One may have even better cinematography. I'm usually a fan of film over digital but it's actually nice how pristine it is and the depth of field. Still, it's odd they went digital with it instead of getting it to look more like ANH.

Its actually shot on film.
Edit: im wrong

Jyn is a more interesting character than Rey and she isn't a Mary Sue, they did a great job with her, some Squad members are uninteresting though, making their death emotionless for me.

Anyone thought the tentacle alien scene didnt serve any purpose? I mean.. was it torture?

i suspect that thing or much rather its effects on the pilot guy would have played a bigger role pre-reshoots?
it was a huge non-sequitur. Beyond being more or less drugged out in the prison cell, there was no lasting damage. And it's not like the creature reading the pilot's mind helped him in any way whatsoever - Saw still locked him up and didn't really believe Jyn all that much.

But maybe that's some kind of new Lucasfilm signature move - have a scene with huge ugly tentacle swinging alien beasts that really doesn't contribute anything to the overall film
(see, Rathtars).

Don't know if it was the cinema we have here but the sound effects felt really suppressed.
Blaster shots, spacecraft, weapons etc blended into the background instead of the bombast of previous films. I had the same complaint about 7 in some areas.

Obviously a certain scene it was near silent on purpose, (firing of the deathstar)

I swear Duel of the Fates popped into my head the instant his lightsaber turned on. If there was ever a moment where I'd legit pop off in a cinema it would be this.

Vader's two big moments are both represented here, too. They didn't leave that shit out.

And you really get to appreciate Giacchino going all "LOST" w/ the Scarif finale.

I couldn't fucking help myself. Just couldn't wait. I hate myself right now for ruining that Vader scene lol!

Goddamn though, that shit looks unreal. That shot as he's looking out into space as what I am assuming is Princess Leia's ship leaving gave me goosebumps, even with the potato quality. Bought my tickets for the 7:00 showing tonight. Hype through the fucking roof right now.

Yes. Once you get over the disappointments with so few call backs to John Williams, it really shines on its own.
It had the perfect amount of callbacks imo, quoting Williams and using some typical Star Wars sounds yet being its own thing. I've only heard it in the movie though, waiting for a Spotify release to analyse it further.

It really is a fantastic scene, I worry that the internal squealing as I watched it in the cinema wasn't quite as internal as I had hoped. It's one of the best scenes in the movie. Some of the CG in this movie is outstanding and some is meh... we really haven't hit a stride in the CG industry for characters faces along side other live action footage. I'm glad we got those characters but they won't age well visually in this movie.

I thought Tarkin looked better than Leia. I must admit can't remember a single line of dialogue from Tarkin's first scene. Seeing Peter Cushing again was crazy.

What an amazing movie. Never expected them to do Tarkin and Leia in the same movie. Amazing.

My dislikes were the dialouges who were sometime supercorny and the music. Which wasnt bad but I am so much trained to hear motifs at specific moments (star destroyer appearing, etc), that it felt super wrong all the time.

And we had Kyle Katarn in this. Not with the same name, but its 1:1 the same cloathes.
Leia, Tarkin and my Bro Kyle Katarn in a Star Wars Movie in 2016.
This is the best time to be alive.
