Yeah he was cartoonish.
[Huge Rogue One SPOILERS] We need to talk about a certain CGI characterI wasn't feeling the beginning of this movie at all, but everything after Mads Mikkelsen's death was pretty damn awesome.
Also, I feel like we need to have a thread to discuss the recreation of Peter Cushing and the topic of "resurrecting" dead actors in detail, but I don't know how to title it without pissing everyone off over Rogue One spoilers.

Didn't anyone else have to hold in a groan when the two dudes from the ANH cantina showed up in Jeddha? That has to be the worst callback ever.
I thought Tarkin looked alright for the most part. Leia was just wrong though
It was ham-fisted but not too bad.
That 3P0 and R2 shit was way worse. It had zero bearing on that part of the film.

Obi Wan is a character you go on a journey with throughout the movie that dies at the end. Luke is a fucking protagonistwhy people keep saying things like, "not enough to care for this character" when luke and obi wan were the same, why we should care for this blond brat who wants to abandon his old relatives to go have adventures, and for this old fart that say "these arent the droid you are looking for"
the only reason you care for luke and everyone else is because they keep developing them on the sequels
you got it backwards
Yeah, no. Jyn ain't great but she's miles above just about every character in the prequels.
Just say "talk about that Rouge One CGI" and people who have seen it will know what you're talking about.[Huge Rogue One SPOILERS] We need to talk about a certain CGI character
That's the only title I could think of.
Please explain to me why Anakin killed a village filled with women and children, because I still don't get it.Sadly Anakin had more complexity and I got why he did that stuff. I can't tell you a single thing about Jyn other than that she's a woman and that her dad was involved in making the Death Star. And hope.
They're both completely terrible.
At least it makes complete sense for R2 and 3PO to be there. The cantina people just showing up randomly was far worse. It was ham-fisted but not too bad.

"He was mad" isn't really a valid reason when you're selling toys and making cartoons of this character.

I thought it was obscure enough that they fit in alright. Didn't take me out of the movie like R2 and 3PO did, apparently meeting their obligation to be in every Star Wars movie. Also didn't think Leia was needed at the end.
naah, just tarkin is
In the first two minutes of meeting Luke, I know:
He has dreams of leaving the planet he's on (staring at the sun/distance)
He wants to move on in life, but his parents are holding him back
... these are things that are easily relatable
In ten minutes, we know:
He has chores and he just wants to get them over with
He doesn't see the value in all the instruction and rules he has to follow
... these are things that are easily relatable
In 20 minutes, we know:
He doesn't live with his birth parents
His father was seduced by evil
He's a great pilot
... We now have some empathy, and also know what he's good at
By the end of the movie:
He's explored a world he didn't know existed
He's taken on new responsibility and recognizes he's in charge of bringing balance to the force
He now has a plan to follow and a world to explore
With the protagonist in Rogue One:
-she's a criminal ... hard to relate to that, but okay
-her dad is killed ... that's fair... but in this case, her dad is killed by bad guys, so her motivation stays exactly the same
-she decides to help get the plans
K-2SO best droid, actually made me laugh. Also liked when he started to mimic C3 and they shut him up. Comedic relief usually bugs me but Rogue One had a few that worked for me.

Lotta folks really upset about the CG actors. I think people are extra sensitive about CG in SW especially.

You're right. But if anything - the fact that I forgot and it really didn't play any long-term baring on the plot anyway - kind of makes my point.
I will say this, cgi Tarkin and Leia made me believe we could see a Star Wars film sequel to Episode 6 with cgi Han, Leia, and Luke.

CGI doesn't bother me if it's a creature. But if the CGI is supposed to be a human (especially a human we've seen on screen played by a dead actor) and is interacting in scenes with real people it just takes you out of itLotta folks really upset about the CG actors.
