Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

QZJdl4k.gif

Did anyone here notice that the red moon is still in the game?
We'd already seen it through a glitch in Episode Duscae as well as in an old trailer, but the final game has a small and kind of disappointing glimpse of it too:

It's right over Insomnia in the loading screen after the final camp.

It's probably a screenshot from an earlier build of the game that still had the red moon but had to be heavily photoshopped to fit the final build's World of Ruin atmosphere, and of course to paste that camping site in.
That may also mean this was the early World of Ruin. If so, I think they made a good decision changing it into the pitch black one we have now. :)

I'm disappointed that the black Chocobo chick never grows up. I was hoping it would become mine instead of having to rent them. I already feel like my pink one should be mine since I leveled it all the way up - and named it.

So I finished Pitioss (amazing and brutal, use Circle to run instead of L3 or suffer), the 8 sealed dungeons, all legendary bosses, won every chocobo race, completed all quest lines, and earned the platinum. Is there anything else worthwhile in the game beyond mere collectibles or am I actually done playing until the updates or DLC?

Greatly enjoyed my time with the game. It's somewhere in the middle of my FF list and nowhere near perfect but dammit if there wasn't something irresistible about the tone of the game. Even the mangled story had its highlights.

Can anyone confirm or deny that the type-f flying theme has changed with the latest update? Because it sounds great and I don't remember it sounding this good before!

I sort of wish it was the red sky over what we did get.

I like the idea that some of the Astrals are basically just big jerks, lol.

Ifrit totally park-ouring Bahamut's attacks like a boss was fantastic, hahaha. Also Shiva basically one hit killing him and also Aldyn, if only the latter wasn't an immortal--it's nice to see her getting a massive power boost compared to her usual FF incarnations.

TV Tropes said that it is suggested that Ifrit may have a hand in creating the Starscourge; where does the game give information about this?

FUCK this story mayne, just beat the game
I legit did not know who the fuck ardyn is and why he was doing the things he was doing, did the game even explain this? Can someone explain to me?

And how were noctis and luna in love if they only talked during the leviathin battle and havent seen each other in 10 years?

And did noct die or not?

Story is a 5/10

So it seems like a lot of people are coming off of finishing the game with positive feelings?

Still can't decide whether I want to give the game a go. I don't have much patience for games these days so I'd rather not invest hours into a game I end up not enjoying.
So you've basically talked yourself out of it already. I don't understand posts like this, especially with the wealth of great impressions here.

I got a good kick out the Dante like moment with Noct in the middle of all the Shiva posing around him.

I wish the summon fights were as cool as Ifrits tho. It was really really cool.

From some videos that i have watched, i guess a lot of this story comes from those legend books. This one.

Its explained in those books with the legends, as well as in the "exposition chapter" that is 13. I didn't get it either, but some people out there really like to make things up to make things fit, even if the game doesn't tell you about it. There is a lot of setup that the game just doesn't do.

I dunno... i actually thought Noct built a better relationship with Gladios sister. But hey... i dunno.

I think he died. Yes. His last sacrifice to defeat Ardyn in the other world or something like that.

Good video. Just talks about setup and development and a miss op for this game. The bros at least were awesome.

did you like... not pay attention throughout any of it or something? To answer every one of your questions.

- Ardyn: millenia ago he was a man of royal blood who wanted to save people from the starscourge by bringing it into his own soul. His soul got tainted and became immortal because of this and the gods abandoned him. The king at the time marked him as a monster and erased him from history. Ardyn's goal is the destroy the gods and the royal bloodline and the crystal as all of them screwed him over.

This is explained in chapter 13 when noct is getting sucked into the crystal and also a lore dump from bahamut.

- Noctis and Luna knew each other 13 years ago and have been keeping a secret journal to communicate with each other through Umbra. Luna being an Oracle and whose country is under Niflhim control, can not see Noctis anymore, and Noctis who is from Insomnia (which was walled off from the rest of the world many years ago) has no opportunity to go out into the world yet. So they can not see each other and so share their relationship and feeling through the Journal.

This is shown many times

- Noctis does in fact die. He has to die. Its his destiny to die. His death means the destruction of the starscourge. What you see in the end is Luna and Noct at peace in the afterlife.

Next time, learn context clues. The story has huge narrative flaws, but the ones you mentioned aren't them. 5/10 post

except all the stuff that zeus was complaining about IS in fact in the game.

I think Ardyn's is really the only decently explained backstory in the game.

And by "decent" I mean "a plot dump" which is actually ambitious storytelling in FFXV.

except all the stuff that zeus was complaining about IS in fact in the game.

I think the video that i linked talks in good depth my problem with the story. Things happen with no to little setup. Very important moments in the game are left outside of the game and just briefly mentioned. There is no build up when it matters the most, and having a dump of context to explain everything instead of using narrative is a big letdown.

Im not saying his questions don't have any answers. But its pretty easy to understand how someone would miss it based on the games narrative structure, disjointed chapters and weird exposition. I think the base of the story is neat. I do think it would've been better if it was more of a local story about the bros, rather than a ultimate boss guy that wants revenge and wants to add chaos to the world. Kinda cliche... specially when the story is presented as its all about the bros.

Duuuuude...

This game has narrative issues. Plenty of them. But what you are asking are NOT some of them. In fact, your questions are clearly explained. Hell, it's one of the most direct, no-nonsense explanations this game has. And it's not an optional piece of exposition or anything, you get this at the end of Chapter 13.

I won't defend the game's way of telling the story, but the bolded is on you. There is no excuse to not get that unless you completely skipped the cutscene.

Anyways, Mailbox has already replied, but I'll also quote myself once again.

*Ardyn was of Royal blood. He was next in line for the throne. His name was Ardyn Lucis Caelum, of the Lucian bloodline.

*He had powers to heal the people affected by the Starscourge parasite. Much like the Oracle of modern times (Luna).

*In order to save the people of the world, Ardyn absorbed the Daemons into himself. He healed everyone and saved the world in ancient times.

*However, the Crystal and the gods (Who decide who becomes King), deemed Ardyn to be unfit for the throne due to his soul being stained/corrupted.

*A man named Izunia (Or with surname Izunia) shit-talked about Ardyn and turned him into a pariah. Apparently he began a campaign against Ardyn, making people fear and hate him.

*The Crystal and the gods choose this Izunia guy as the new King instead. Izunia adopted the "Lucis Caelum" surname. This is Noctis' ancestor. Noctis is actually an Izunia, not a "real" Lucis Caelum.

*Ardyn was pissed. After everything he had done to protect the world and heal the people, the gods and the Crystal had turned against him. And Izunia (Now Lucis Caelum) had made the people hate him too.

*Ardyn's plan was to fuck up the world. Fuck up or kill the gods, shatter the Crystal and end the "fake" Lucis Caelum line.

I've seen the video, and i share its point of view. Its a wonderful explanation of why things fall flat. BUT, that doesn't mean people are making stuff up, nor does it excuse Zeus' apparent lack of paying basic attention.

I'm not saying Luna and Noct's relationship is great or well handled, i'm saying that it makes sense from what was shown to us.

I think Ardyn was one of the moments in this story that had a good setup and pay off. Say what you want about cliche revenge blah blah blah, but we see him from the start and we take note that he's fucking with us. Sure the fall of Nifilhim is poorly executed, but Ardyn as a character and as a backstory isn't. (Not that I wouldn't take a flash back or something).

It just feels to me that Zeus just didn't bother to give even a little of a shit, because all his complaints are basically minor in the scheme of things. Since, you know, they are nothing complaints.

If he was complaining about the fall of nif, or tenebrae, or luna's death, or whatever I'd agree. But what he's complaining about is nothing.

Hahaha. This is my understanding:

1. Ardyn is the "true King", so to speak, the original Lucis Caellum, he was once trying to deal with the scourge by absorbing Daemons into himself in order to save many and the world. However, this had the side effect of warping his personality and tainting his body and thus making him "unworthy", and as such he was denied by the Crystal/gods/Astrals and has his name, Lucis Caelum, taken away from him by a guy called Izunia who then proceeded to continue his family name/line, Lucis Caellum, but without him. Understandably, he was pissed off about it (man, the Crystal/Astrals can be a real jerk, lol) and thus he sought revenge to the Royal Family (who is not the real Lucis Caellum) and also the Crystal and Astrals.

2. Beyond their childhood crush, they continued to correspond through letters. It is really not that unbelievable for them to fall in love with one another.

3. Yeap, he's dead alright.

Me, as I was enjoying Chapter 9 before I initiated the main quest: wow, this is incredible, I love this game even with its flaws.

Me, after completing Chapter 9's main story: I want to flush this game down the toilet.

How could they think this game was ready to ship.... how???

How could they think the events of Chapter 9 make sense?
How could they think Luna having 3 seconds of screen time was a good idea?
How could they think this Leviathan "fight"/"set piece" isn't one of the most pathetic and ugly gameplay segments in a game?
And I'm sick and tired of hearing vital plot points through newspapers and radios, tired of vital info being shown through loading screens, tired of "several days later..." and "several weeks later...".

Also, that CG cutscene was a fucking tease. There needed to be way more. Also, aside from the entire Leviathan fight being ugly as sin (and boring), the scene between Titan and Levithan was cringe-inducing from how ugly it was. It's ok to use CG, Tabata. It's ok.

I could go on.

Wow. Is all I have to say to this game, and Square Enix. Wow.

Hmm.. maybe i should say that people are assuming things that might hinted at. But that is not really mentioned in the game in one way or another. I would think that is where the setup comes in, and the lack of development that really makes it hard to follow things in the game.

I agree... Ardyn has an arc and it follows the bros all the way through. But most of his backstory is told through the Cosmology looking books, and as legends there is a lot of assuming you have to do. Like the lady in the cover being Shiva, and Ardyns hair color change, and all that jazz. Ch13 is true in its exposition. I would go as far as to say Ardyn hand holds you through the beats of it. I didn't think it was very elegant, but i also know that the exposition can become tedious within the gameplay limitations making it easy to overlook.

I would think a lot of people lost interest in the story by that point where its a dump of info. I guess there is no excuse for it. But i get both of you guys post.

Btw... whatever happened to the ruler of Nifl? i feel like it might've been mentioned in the radio station. But all of a sudden i remembered him and it felt lost in space.

You bring Tenebrae and it looked like a cool place. From far away. LOL.

Booooy you ain't seen nuthin' yet

I think the story focusing on the summons, old legends, "chosen ones", and "it's magic, I don't gotta explain shit" was a mistake. Hardly new concepts for FF though

I'll reply to each of those sentements in order:

- Not sure what you mean by doesn't make sense? Noctis goes to altissia to gain leviathan's blessing. Luna must communion with Leviathan for that to happen. Before that must be done, Noct visits the secretary of defence of Accordo to initiate citizen relocation. Leviathan is summoned, she hates people. Destruction ensues. Noctis fights levi, can't deal. Ardyn stabs Luna because he really doesn't need her anymore. Luna gives Noct super saiyan powers (lol). Noctis fucks Leviathan up. Luna dies. Its pretty straight forward :S

- Apparently luna has about 45 minutes of total screen time. Mind you, a good chunk of that is after she dies, but regardless. She REALLY could have used MANY more scenes prior to chapter 9.

- Not sure what you mean by this. Its janky as hell, sure, but its fairly pretty and a visual's well done setpiece. I would have liked it to be more involved, sure, but ugly isn't the word I'd use.

- Sure I can understand people not liking plot-through-radio. Millage may vary on that one though.

Btw... whatever happened to the ruler of Nifl? i feel like it might've been mentioned in the radio station. But all of a sudden i remembered him and it felt lost in space.

You know that demon thing that you run away from and then eventually fight in chapter 13? Yeah, that was him.

The Emperor? You fight and kill him as a Daemon in Niflheim. Remember that creepy, devil-like monster that stalks you during the maze and you have to run from him until you finally kill him alongside with your friends?

Yeah, that's him. The game hints at his identity when you find the Emperor's clothing in his throne. But no sign of his body. Then when you kill the Daemon he says how he wanted the Ring to expand Niflheim's reign to the entire world.

Now THIS is an issue that I understand people complaining about. While the game makes it clear that this Daemon IS the Emperor, we never get to see him transforming. This NEEDS to be expanded upon in the new cutscenes.

NO WAY! the vampire looking thing that chases you around?

I do remember the white clothing on the chair to the chamber where you turn off the device that nullify s nocts powers. I actually thought it was a bug and maybe i was meant to pick the clothes and wear them haha. I think by then i was not even thinking of the old man. What gives this away? Should i have played the game with subtitles? i remember some monsters talk to you, even regular mobs. Never really thought i was meant to understand them. Thats crazy.

Also.. i thought Luna touching Ardyn had something to do in the end. Making him human perhaps? at least thats what i understood.

It feels like I am a very unique snowflake in that I actually like the portrayal of the love story between Noct and Luna, lol. It was so innocently sweet and pure, and plenty straightforward too, in that these two love each other and that's it.

I just wish we have more Luna scenes.

It was so lame. I mean, it's not very cryptic, the game makes it clear it's him with the dialogue alone. But yeah, this needed a cutscene or two... I'm hoping this is one of the scenes they are planning on fixing.

The Daemon keeps murmuring about wanting the Ring of the Lucii, and how Niflheim was to take over the world with such power, and the Crystal.

Why would the secretary be okay with her city being potentially destroyed? It doesn't make sense. Why does it have to be Altissia? Can't it just be near any body of water? And some "evacuation"... literally the second after Luna finishes her speech the empire draws into Accordo and Luna summons Leviathan. Which doesn't make sense... at all. And the city seems to be completely destroyed during the Leviathan fight but everything seems fine afterwards? lol. And how did Luna drown? How did Noctis somehow survive?

I wouldn't call the Leviathan fight "pretty" at all, really. It's way, way, way, way, way, way too unpolished for me to call it "pretty." And the water Leviathan things were really ugly. I personally would use the word ugly. The whole thing was an eyesore once the actual battle began.

I just wish we have more Luna scenes.

I love Luna. I love her design and her character. But lollllllllll at the amount of screen time she has. I teared up during the CG cutscene for 3 reasons:

1. The beauty of it
2. The tragic nature of the relationship between Noctis and Luna
3. The tragic nature of this game and Luna specifically (for this instance)

Also, I thought the scene's sound mixing was pretty poor.

Didn't Luna save Noct?

I didn't quite get the secretary character. Perhaps just an excuse to get the team split up and in consequence have Ignis loose his sight? i dunno. it kinda happened off screen and then there was "tension" within the bros.

I agree that that fight is not very fun or cool looking. Shame, cuz Leviathan looks pretty badass.

I love Luna. I love her design and her character. But lollllllllll at the amount of screen time she has. I teared up during the CG cutscene for 3 reasons:

I felt nothing. Only time i choked up was with Nocts speech to the bros at the end. It was fantastic.

Luna was underwhelming. I felt sad that Noct didn't hook up with Gladiolus sister tbh.

Yeah i skipped all the talking options the bahamuth gave me, thought they would be irrevalent and i was anxious to see what was next

The fight against Leviathan is one of the most impressive moments I've seen in the current generation, but anyways.

Regarding the first part of your post:

1) The leader of Accordo is okay with the city being damaged because it potentially means Noctis will gain enough power to defeat the Empire. What she cannot tolerate is the citizens being harmed. The city can be repaired, but lives cannot be recovered.

2) It has to be Altissia because Leviathan rests on Altissian waters. Not outside. Leviathan is a goddess worshipped in Accordo.

3) The "second Luna finishes her speech"? Huh? The game makes it clear that some time passes between the speech and the ritual.

4) Part of the city was destroyed. The rest was underwater until Leviathan was calmed. Then the waters subsidies.

I remember murmuring from it. But nothing that i could understand. Again, was this in subtitles? or i just completely missed the dialogue in it.

Yep, you can read the Daemon's dialogue in subtitles if you wish.

-_-

Because history and religion. The fact that Leviathan is a god in this world is a pretty big deal, and the fact that there is even a alter to summon leviathan should be clue enough that "fate of the world" trumps city destruction. Also what Ishida said above (actually his explanation of things is better than mine lol).

Why does it have to be Altissia?
Same reason you had to fight Titan at the meteor. They are beings (at this point, but you'll get to the whole "death and gods" thing later (I'll admit the whole death and gods thing can be slightly confusing). Leviathan is located there.

And which console are you playing on? Because I had no issue with the "aqua-mini-leviathans" and I thought the actual leviathan fight was quite pretty.

thats lame... they should have subs spring up even when you have subtitles off. I recall in the Cube tower that the bros mention that the mobs were speaking to me. All i could hear was jarble. I guess it really explains a lot... i guess i'll play with subs on on new game plus. That is a pretty big oversight. I would've totally understood that character if i had read those.

I think it has some pretty moments. But the meat of the gameplay is a bit clunky. Most of the time you end up warping and hitting, but if you miss you just keep falling down to the water. Maybe thats the intention tho? until Luna makes you go berserk. I dunno, not the most impressive fight tbh.

BTW... where do i access all the new updates content? does it have noct sombrero outfit? or that is still incoming? game updated earlier.

Something has been bothering me. Doesn't the empire kill Titan and Leviathan? How can you summon them if they're dead?

The Empire claims to have killed them (Because that makes them seem even more powerful and dominant to the general public, you can even see that they brag about it on the radio).

Gods cannot be killed by humans.

Oh ok. I could've sworn the bros talking about how the Empire killed Leviathan at one point though, which is weird because why would they think that? I don't remember much. Anyway all this talk of Leviathan makes me really eager to get those future patches. Chapter select was one of them right? I'd love to play chapter 9 again.

Another question, it was Ardyn who killed Regis then? What happened to the old guy whl Ravus and Ardyn were talking to earlier in the game?

Regis was killed by Drautos, AKA General Glauca, leader of the Kingsglaive and traitor to the nation of Lucis.

And the other old guy you mention is Verstael, which disappears into FUCK ALL because... DLC...?

The reaction you are having while reading that? Yes, that's what we all thought.

nono, you kill them in battle and they deem you worthy. You then absorb them.

The only ones that died from empire hands were Shiva and Ifrit iirc (Ifrit is implied by Shiva's talking near the end of the battle about how the dead should die or something).

I'm still personally confused by iggy's mention of "having killed half of the 6" when we literally note that 3 of the six have been obtained and bahamut is MIA. Maybe Bahamut being MIA was assumed by our characters as being dead or something. Idk.

either way, when gods die, they don't.... i guess is how to put it. They become ghosts or spirits i guess. you are summoning their spirits, I guess.

They 'killed' Shiva too but she has no issue one-shotting Aldyn and Ifrit, lol.

So who is the giant looking godess shiva like that you see from the train? i thought it was crazy that Shiva was claimed to be dead. I actually bought the story. I guess it makes sense how they would use the news to their advantage.

Also, on top of the quarry where the first dungeon is there is a metal structure with the resemblance of an iron giant. With a mask and an arm. What is that all about?

The one that killed Regis was an entirely different character that only appeared very briefly in this game at the very beginning. Watch Kingsglaive.

The old guy, the Emperor, was turned into a daemon by Aldyn, the monster that's chasing you around in chapter 13.

That is Shiva's corpse.
Note how Gentiana just appears and disappears on a whim. She's a spirit at that point.

So that is why they keep referring to her in the photos? thats kind of cool. Wish they could've shown a cool cutscene of the fall of Shiva tho.

Yep, you can read the Daemon's dialogue in subtitles if you wish.

1) Ok, I got that much already. But can you explain why the fight begins 1 second after the speech aka all of the citizens are in the city? Am I supposed to assume they magically evacuated 30 seconds later? Or did I miss another "several days later..." transition for this evacuation to have actually taken place?

2) That's what I figured.

3) The empire came in right after Luna finished her speech, then Noctis says "look after the citizens" to Ignis, Prompto says "so... it begins..." and then the very next scene is Luna summoning Leviathan. No transition whatsoever, so if anything it's the game's mistake for not making it clear at all. It makes it seem like the speech and the summoning were moments apart. Mind you I am rewatching the cutscenes right now on Youtube. The game really makes it seem like the speech and the summoning are seconds apart.

It depends, since the game doesn't explain.

You can either believe that's Shiva's real corpse, or you can, as I do, believe that it is actually a decoy Shiva left to make the Empire believe they killed her.

After all, Gentiana has been Luna's servant since she was a little kid. So, at what point did the Empire "kill" Shiva?

I stand for my belief that the Empire killed no gods.

If i am to believe everything else, this would make the most sense. It was a cool moment, too bad its extent was a fight next to the train right next to its head.

Again, another moment that is just left to interpretation but its quite important.

They do mention Gentiana in those Astrology books tho, and she has the same form as before in the times of Ardyn. So what gives?

Then why is it all snowy and cold after Shiva's "death"? If she likes humans why would she make the weather all screwy

Actually of all the things they don't show that they should add in, I think that's not one of them tbh. I think Shiva's corpse is so haunting because we are in the dark about it.

Then why is it all snowy and cold after Shiva's "death"? If she likes humans why would she make the weather all screwy

I think its just a side effect of her death. They mention how desert and tundra exist side by side due to shiva's death. Its not like she willed that to happen or anything, I just think it went out of control.
