Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

GE2 comes with GE1, and from the few hours I've spent on GE1, it was too easy, and it shows that it's a handheld game originally. I don't think I'd recommend it yet, It seemed to have potential to be fun though.

Thanks. I'll take my chances with Toukiden.

Wohoo!

Where are my presents at, Steam?

Planet Coaster or Tyranny?

I know its kind of apples and oranges but they're both about $40 (which is honestly a little more than I'd like to spend on either one right now) and I'd really only like to spend that much on maybe one game for this sale anyway. Unless someone can convince me to just get both.

Beyond those 2, I'm thinking maybe I'll get Thumper and Arkham Knight. I always maintained that under $10 would be the price point to jump on Arkham Knight and I think this the first time I've seen it this low.

Where are you getting that from other than the price increase?

The rep has been posting on Reddit while they have been at the lower prices with no mention of it being a mistake and he was bragging a few days ago that they don't really have price errors anymore.

Just an initial promotional price maybe?

Oh. I just assumed. That seems like a weird short term promotion especially when there wasn't any countdown or anything.

Is there a winter sale card trading thread yet?

Would like to trade

Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!

for

either one of these:

There's Something In My Eye
Just 5 More Minutes
Test of Time
Villain Most In Need Of A Hug

Anyone know of any good games about colonizing other planets?

Maybe something where you first have to get off earth then place and build a colony on another planet and manage this?

Some keywords:

Strategy
Resources
Basebuilding
Management
TBS/RTS

If you want to colonize another planet then RimWorld is for you! No escaping Earth first, but it's all of what you want otherwise.

any thoughts on Saint Seiya? I was a "knights of the zodiac" fanboy when I was a kid, does this capture the feel of it? That show had some pretty specific special moves.

Is there a story mode, and if so is it meaty? Im not looking to go online or anything.

Think that's it for the sale for me. None of these were on my radar yesterday, but the praise here for Ys and Chalice made them sound awesome

Ys is awesome and there are definitely more games to dive into if you like those. A new one coming this March to... PS4 I think?

Massive Chalice i still haven't played.

I haven't played Planet Coaster, but Tyranny is fucking amazing.

Okay I need your help. I have a nice tiny wishlist but I have no idea what to buy first:

- Aragami
- Owlboy
- VA-11 Hall A
- Stardew Valley
- Abzu

Any recommendations?

Is there a chill city building game that isn't Cities: Skyline or Sim City 4?

Out of those I've only played Stardew Valley and I can 100% recommend it.

Well all of these will be cheaper later, so I'd just buy what you expect to play before the next sale. Stardew Valley is very rewarding and long; Abzu, by contrast, is quite short. I liked but didn't love Owlboy and would definitely recommend waiting for a steeper discount.

I've played and love all four of those. In Talos, the puzzles are self-contained (like in Portal) but can be approached in generally any order you want, so if you get hung up on one you can just head to another. You don't really feel like you're in a "place" as you do with Portal or The Witness, but that's kind of the intent as the game is set in a simulation and the entire world is designed around you solving puzzles. Those puzzles are fantastic and I'd put them on an equal level with the Portal games (which also have the self-contained nature to the puzzles). Story is all right but kind of in the background, you really need to read everything you find which is okay in my book. Has a lot of nice secrets and easter eggs to find as well if that's your thing.

In the end I feel The Talos Principle is kind of a merger of The Witness' world structure with Portal's puzzles. Of these four puzzle games Antichamber is the most different and harder to compare to the others with how it focuses on navigation through the non-euclidean world as a puzzle in itself. Its actual puzzles with the block gun are probably the weakest of the four games, but by no means bad and the world itself is really fun to explore as you gradually work our how to make your way around despite nothing matching up with what your brain expects.

I'd highly recommend all four to anyone into puzzle games, especially if you've already played and enjoyed some of them!
Thanks for the impressions, you've definitely rekindled my interest. I'll get to it after I try Prince of Persia.

I've played Owl, Va11, and Stardew. Skip Owl. It is beautiful and is a skip. For forever. Totally mediocre. Hard pass. Get Stardew. You should have bought it awhile ago when we were giving it away during Humble Monthly. It's a fun, slow burn. It's a better Harvest Moon.

I prefer Va11. Great artwork and writing. Stardew is too slow for me these days.

It's not being pulled or anything, they've released 3 patches this week -- I assume they just have the audience they need for testing and for development $$$ and don't want the support burden to be any higher while they continue developing

possible price increase? their EA blurb says the finished version will be $24.99

Could be, but their EA price was $19.99 and they're nowhere near done so it would be pretty weird to pull it this early just to reissue for, like, $2 or whatever more, moving incrementally towards the final price.

oh true. for some reason i was thinking the original price was sub $15. i was probably thinking that because i bought it and i usually dont buy anything on steam for more than $15

I remember someone mentioned I am Setsuna don't run so well, does anyone know what issue it was? Mine seem to be locked at 30fps and running with 3% gpu usage, lol, I tried disabling v-sync but don't seem to help.

edit: nvm, seems like it's my settings in gedosato

edit2: actually I don't fucking know, i hate the unity engine when it comes to downsampling, gonna just stick to 1080/60fps

So question, since Bulletstorm is getting a remastered version should I hold off on getting the original version now or jump in and cross my fingers for a free upgrade?

It's pretty dope looking, so I can totally understand making an exception for it. I grew up loving Redwall books and this game has set off hype alarms for me since day one.

i played through the opening intro/demo back in august. not sure whats been patched in since. i liked it a lot, although its more simplistic/smaller scale than you might think by just looking at the store page. which is probably a good thing, because it means it will actually get finished.

I'm guessing it won't happen since bundle packages can't be gifted. "Let's see what my buddy wants for Christmas...cool, I can...oh."

So why can't we wishlist it for personal reasons? I like adding to my wishlist and then when a sale comes, going through them to see what the prices are.
