Donnie Yen recently revealed that the idea of his character Chirrut Imwe being a blind man in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was actually suggested by him.
As reported on LA Times, the actor, who played the spiritual warrior monk, stated that he and director Gareth Edwards were discussing several ideas about the character when it came to him.
"I said, "I want this character not to be such a cliché. I've played this character thousands of times - this type of bad-ass, skillful warrior hero. I want him to be grounded. I want him to be human, even vulnerable. Wouldn't it be interesting to have him blind?"
Donnie stated that both Edwards and Disney loved the idea, and he ended up playing the character as a blind man.
The actor also said that he wanted Chirrut Imwe to be an ordinary man - someone you can have a beer with and has a sense of humour.
"Those are two things I'm glad this character ended up having," he added.
