Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Finished my playthrough of Tales of Symphonia, after around 45 hours. The game is pretty good, like I said before some drawbacks are the grinding and the annoying puzzles, and some bad save point placement in a couple of dungeons.

I actually didn't do a lot of the late game sidequests (ultimate weapons, colliseum) because they required for me to grind a lot and the rewards weren't that good. That said, the game has a kind of a New Game Plus mode and one of the things you can do is gain exp faster, so in the future I might try another playthrough to see if I can do everything.

Overall, very recommended. $5 is a bargain for this game.

So what's the deal with ARK?

seinfeld1.jpg

Every time I see it on sale and go to buy it, I scroll down to the Reviews section and see a solid monolith Not Recommended talking about the latest shitshow introduced in a new update that seems pretty nasty the way hundreds of people seem to be describing it.

Is ARK still a good game (at 70% Positive), or is it one of those games where it had a good run in early-access early on, before completely going to shit with the direction the devs took it later on going completely off-rails and the review score just hasn't been properly shifted because the first few reviewers haven't updated their reviews?

And actually this seems to be a common theme with a lot of games on Steam lately. Good Scores, but solid monoliths of NOT RECOMMENDED in the reviews section. Especially Early Access. And Vice-Versa sometimes.

Meh, I keep looking for stuff to get, but nothing is drawing me in atm. I might just buy a bunch of Pinball FX2 tables. I bought a load of them back in the xbox 360 days but since I didn't go XBone I haven't played them since. Might buy like 15 of them for 15 bucks.

So are you recommending I get Darkest Dungeon? Or are you recommending I get Grim Dawn/Satellite Reign?

im saying Sattelite Reign and Grim Dawn are most likely to not show up in bundles anytime soon.

If you want my actual recomendation, its Darkest Dungeon since its near the top of my games of the year. I dont like Grim Dawn, and I havent played Sattelite Reign yet, And I havent bought Invisible Inc because, like I said, im sure it will be in a humble monthly soon enough.

I know it's been posted a ton already, but could someone share the link for checking whether a game has been priced lower before? Thanks.

Deus ex mankind divided worth the £13?
Absolutely, GOTY

Game is and always was bad but people are easily impressed by survival games especially because DINOSAURS

And while I'm at it, I notice RUST isn't on sale. I coulda sworn it used to go for 50% off on sales all the time.

This related to Garry's recent blog about "Bored of Rust? Don't complain. Stop playing." or something?

Deus ex mankind divided worth the £13?
Well, yeah, of course it's worth that little. That's cheap as hell even if you don't love how the game ends (you won't) or if you think its social commentary is kind of shallow and pointless (you might, if you follow that kind of politics in real life). Sneaking around and upgrading augs and stuff is still fun as ever.

Catacomb Kids and Vagante are both unique and amazing. I should really pick up catacomb kids again. Haven't played it in maybe... a year or so? Also Vagante.

Catacomb Kids is an amazing but hard roguelike action platformer whose environments and objects had a laundry list of attributes that you had to be aware of, as they can be used to your advantage but if your sloppy, most likely it will work out to hurt you.

Vagante is more pixel precision action platformer and the classes are extremely finely tuned. I've said it before but there are only maybe 3-4 pixels difference between the Rogue's Dagger and the Warriror's Sword and it makes a WORLD of difference.

Both are refreshing takes on the Spelunky-esque design and I recommend them.

If you like survival games, ARK is great. There hasn't been any update that screws the game.

I've been thinking about buying Trails of the Sky, but I've had my doubts since I don't know much about it. Does it turn into a grindfest at some point? Because I hate when games go for that.

Good game in itself but the first game is a shit port and runs at 30fps and below.

its a cute little jrpg-like

Charming as fuck. Great writing. A bit simple but I loved it.

Can't really refute this, and I don't mean to give it a pass because every game should be 60fps minimum, but it's totally not a game that needs to be 60 for gameplay purposes.

Fun little Paper Mario esque RPG. Very laid back. Worth buying with the bundle that contains the second game.

Fun, charming and nostalgic. You can get both games for $2:

Very accessible games - combat is turn based and not really difficult.

Bought it. Thank you all.

I guess nobody says thank you anymore after winning games from modbot....*runs out crying*
Like on the thread? The message winner gets says to PM the gifter, assuming to not clog the thread.

I don't remember it being difficult other than a couple bosses. And if you're anything like me and do the sidequests, it extra shouldn't be necessary.

Go for it. It's one of the best RPGs released in recent years with tons of charm and great writing.

Any awesome really obscure "I might be the only person who played this" recommendations under $5?

Rex Rocket is $1.24, super underappreciated, and hard as nails

I mean

I'm not joking around

It's really f'ing hard

Like, going through the Steam reviews, it's almost entirely "This game is great because it's so f'ing hard" or "This game is terrible because it's so f'ing hard"

Knight Squad - fun top down local/online multiplayer game
Six Sides of the World - great puzzle game
Fight The Dragon - light action rpg, great for co-op

Thanks for giving away games, GAF is a great place.
If you stick to SteamGAF

Some of the classes actually do have a dodge skill you can unlock. I never ended up using it since I got so used to not having a dodge and learned how to play around it though, so I don't have any further tips than that.

Also, bookmark this mod for when you inevitably get sick of the game's terrible fast travel system:
http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/96/?
It lets you move "portcrystals" around the map so you can travel to anywhere and makes the game approximately 800% better.

My dude, Spelunky is over 8 years old. I don't think that train is ever leaving the station.

I didn't even know there was fast travel haha. So this might help.

Thankfully Ori is better than Symphony of the Night. Also Dawn of Sorrow is better.

I just bought Ori this sale and haven't played it. But I already know it is not better than SOTN.

I'm not sure but I think you can't use your old saves for the GOTY edition.
Is that true? This goty stuff sucks for those of us who buy the original Witcher 3. The dlc is more expensive than buying the goty and we can't use old save for goty? Weak, man.

A fellow student is obsessed with it because of that exact reason. Always telling me how great it is because you can do X with dinosaurs.

I might have cured, though, with recommending him Dragon's Dogma.

Apologies if this has been covered in the thread already, but does anyone want to sell me on Inside, given that I played through Limbo and was like "cool I guess that was a game"? Given the huge amounts of praise poured on it from everyone else (and it really does feel like EVERYONE ELSE) I do plan to pick it up eventually, but I really don't know if 30% off is enough given my indifference.

But if you start the DLC from the GOTY version you have the option of getting a fully leveled up character you can customize. Not perfect, but works fine if you want to play the DLC.

Man, this could practically be a SteamGAF game

People have been praising and recommending One Way for years. And Super House is an Adult Swim game

IndieGAF was talking about Rex Rocket before it was cool

I wish it was cooler, I've been shouting about that game since if launched, and SteamSpy shows it not getting nearly the love it deserves, especially as cheap as it is.

It does not.
It's not particularly difficult outside of a few bosses, and when it is, it's more about tactics and set-up then sheer number difference.
EXP scales based on enemy strength, so underleveled characters will be up to speed in no time as well.

The dev's next game Blossom Tales looks like it might have a wider appeal. An arcadey Zelda-like might attract a bigger audience

Well time to work through my steam game list:
Asdivine Hearts
Coin Crypt
Crazy Plant Shop
¿ Deadcore ? (not sure if it counts)
Deep Under the Sky

If you didn't liked LIMBO you probably aren't going to like INSIDE either, especially the first half feels like LIMBO 2: The Againening, but with a cooler art-style.

Here's my current cart.

Was thinking of adding Inside and Virginia, but I noticed those are cheaper right now on PSN. Inside in particular on PSN is $4.99 so I'll just get it on there.

Anyone have any opinions on these games?
