Overwatch |OT6.99999997311%| Game of the Year

I'm playing on PS4 during the winter event. I played elimination and this one team kept on getting into an area where my team could not kill them. And then when time was running out my character was sticking to the ground in one spot (can be seen at 1:27 when I jump and I get pulled back) while I was trying to move and I was disconnected.

Is this a large problem?

Sometimes I want to scream...
I never felt these feelings in other online games. Why are lost matches in OW so different?

Sounds like you lagged out pretty hard. I've had this randomly happen sometimes. When it happens in Comp, I feel so bad about it. Never got disconnected tho.

It depends imo.

In some losses, you just get insanely overwhelmed by the opposing side.

In others, its a tough match which in my opinion are fun. I just love the competition.
 
Also I was listening to a Youtuber that mentioned how Boogie shared that on consoles Overwatch has bots in multiplayer because the population is so low...what? Is this true? I haven't played in awhile so I don't know if this is a misquote or Boogie made this up or if the other Youtuber is full of bs

its just that feeling of hopelessness, slowly watching your team be decimated again and again. Thinking that maybe its your team comp, or you, or either or both. It makes you hate your friends, yourself, Blizzard, and life in general.

And yet you keep playing it because its either this or thinking about your inevitable death or donald trump's presidency.

I'm usually that guy with the reply, but because I take competitive pretty seriously where I only use meta characters.

While in QP, I just want to relax with random heroes like widowmaker, tracer or mccree.
Even if teams are unbalanced and we lose.

Mystery heroes has been a great cool down / warm up for me in that regard. Hard to complain when I lose to three bastions as Sombra lmao.
 
I still have to do this Nexus challenge thing for the Genji skin *sigh*, anybody still need to do this and wants to group up? Whats the chance we can get that skin through other means?
 
It's crazy to me that there are still people that only main one hero for comp. Like no high level player does this, everyones got 3 or 4 or a role they fill.

But you still get 130 hours on Hanzo or 130 hours on Torbjorn. Like the only heroes you can really even kind of get away with that on are Lucio and Rein.

Yea the YouTuber I listened to is sometimes PC-masterrace-ish so misquoting Boogie was something I expected.

Still I never have a hard time finding a game on the PS4. Does Blizzard show the game population numbers?
 
Low SR, man. Team comp confuses the hell out of me sometimes. I was on a big losing streak and dropped to high gold. I enter a match in Ilios (1st map Lighthouse). I pick Roadhog, because I don't trust people at this SR to do anything right and generally people in gold are pretty easy to hook. 3 of my teammates pick DPS - We get a McCree, Junkrat, and Tracer. Oh boy. I and the sole healer, a Lucio, ask for more tanks/healers. Our 6th teammate locks in Widowmaker. 'Haaaa... it's gonna be one of those games'.

The first, couple minutes go real bad. We just get floored. I determine that we're gonna *need* a hard tank. So, given our comp, I pick Rein.

The tides turn immediately. We quickly recapture the point, win it without losing it again, and then repeat on the 2nd map. We lose the third point (Well), but at this point the Lucio, who's been a bro the whole time following me around since he says I'm the only one he can trust, switches to Mercy on 4th map Ruins specifically to keep me alive longer. One of the DPS switch to Hog too on this map, then we win the point and the match

The enemy team ran a standard 2x2x2 comp the whole time (maybe one of the DPS switched to a 3rd tank?). Lower SR really doesn't have to conform so rigidly I guess but despite seeing this multiple times now I'm still scared of it.

The often slow yet inevitable defeat is what makes it. Even if you're playing at your best it ain't gonna change things if the teams are just mismatched, glimmers of hope fall to the wayside as the idea of actually carrying a team in a traditional sense is basically a non factor in this game.

Added bonus grief for competitive where even if you did damn well as a losing team member you ain't gaining any points.
 
Okay I got my 144Hz monitor today and it definitely looks a lot smoother now. But am I supposed to turn off fast sync? Or do I keep that on? I dont really understand what settings I need to turn on/off for a good 144hz experience.

Gsync / Freesync are useful to prevent tearing in case of hiccups, but if you don't have that and can drive the game at your display refresh rate, Vsync isn't needed.
 
So I finally jumped in OW and I have to say the hype is real, I didn't expect to have this fun but here we are.

Anyway, I have come across a rather curious thing. Whenever I start the game or alt / tab into the desktop, the display changes back and forth to 1080p @ 60 hz despite the fact that both the desktop and the game are set at the same resolution. I thought this would be a wide-problem but so far with many games (such as Dota 2) there's no change on the display. Anyone has come across this issue? I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti on Windows 10, and I reinstalled the drivers, but I'm drawing a blank now on what to do.
 
a lot of peeps using smurf silver friends to climb into diamond/master... I keep running into platinum + silver duos in comp, and yesterday was on a team w/ a platinum + 3 silvers... we rolled the enemy team, so it's obvious those 3 silvers were smurfing. Mess.

Are you playing on fullscreen? Try windowed borderless.

So I should turn off v sync on control panel and lock at 144fps? I get around 155fps when I lock it to display but i cant tell if there's tearing tbh.

Yep! You can't tell that there's tearing because you aren't getting any lol.

Locking to display will help give your GPU some overhead so it isn't running at 100% all the time.

Vsync is to prevent screen tearing when you have a drop in frames and your GPU isn't updating frames at the same refresh rate as your monitor. If your GPU can handle 144 FPS, 144 hz won't tear in most cases.

My favorite was running behind a fucking forklift to dodge the ult, just before the first checkpoint for the map where you escort a little spaceship to its launchpad. I survived.

Yeah, there's a gigantic bomb going off just on the other side of this forklift. I'll just crouch here for a sec and it's all good.

DVa's ult is one of the good ones in the game in that it's fun on both ends of the equation. One side is setting off a huge bomb, and the other side is either running for cover or doing cool shit like shielding it or charging/hooking it away from your team.

One of my problems with this game is how so many things are fun for the person doing them but ultra annoying for the people on the receiving end.

The depressing feeling is when I check someone's profile and see they only play Hanzo or Junkrat or something and then reflect on how much I must suck if they are the same rank as me doing that lol

Yeah if I focused on only one or two heroes I would be a god Kappa

But I like to play every hero/class/race in every game I play. I played RANDOM in SC2 back in the days xD
 
Today was a good day. Saved my team from Reaper's ult with Symmetra's shield which felt pretty awesome, ironically I was the only one that died.
Also got Winston's yeti skin.
 
I never got the complaints about Mei's winter skin. Shift turns you into an ice snow man with a santa hat! Come on, that's awesome!
 
Bleh, competitive Overwatch has not been fun lately.

I've only played like 10 games after my placements but they've all gone the same.

The 2 or 3 Top 500 characters insta-lock their favs and then dictate to us what the rest of us should play.

It's crazy to me how non-versatile players get the further up in rank you go.

Despite the fact I'm not great with them, I've resolved to the role of Ana or Zenyatta when necessary, which I don't mind doing on occasion, but it's been 6 consecutive matches. It doesn't help that my PS4 is slower so I'm almost always the last one on the character select screen.

Anyway, typically the Top 500 people also assume that any fault with the match can't possibly be related to them, and so they spend most of the match placing blame on whoever they can.

I'm hoping this is all just a temporary thing from the holiday break or something. As it stands, I've dropped 200 SR since I placed.
 
Finally got around to doing my placement matches a few nights ago, went 7 - 3 with a SR of 2628. Not too shabby I think. However, since I actually started playing comp matches, I've lost way more than I've won and dropped 100 points. Any PS4 Gaffers in the 2500 - 3000 range looking for someone to play comp with? I think my teams keep getting steam rolled because no one is using a mic and the other team is playing like they are talking, they just seem super coordinated.

I'm good with Mei, Zenyatta, Mercy, Roadhog and Tracer. Can play decent Soldier, Reaper, D.Va and Reinhardt.

Yea I thought my lack of caring was because I hit master so early and didn't mind falling back. But it kind of seems like more than that, I don't even wear my mic to play anymore and for everyone it just seems much less important. I only play for CP's and because the teams tend to have better comps.

Had a mystery game in Hanamura where we got lucky with target A, but when it came to target B, no one would try and get inside the building. They're all just hanging back, getting picked off. Kinda frustrating.

Then we had a defend game and it gave me Symmetra. So I set up a shield generator inside target A and put turrets by it, and the other team got so focused on taking out the generator that they were getting picked off on their way in from the game. Pretty satisfying.

I think the best way for me to play is a game or two, then stop. Any more than that and I either get frustrated with my own performance, or with someone else yelling on a mic or whatever. I'm still not even level 25 and that's a-ok.
 
I need to place, still.

I had a little break, unintentionally, and since I've just played that mystery heroes. I pull golds and silvers but I've been losing like fucking mad, lately. It's hard to tell if I'm rusty. I definitely feel rusty.

Pharah on PS4 in mystery is an absolute nightmare. When you can't counter-pick in anyway, she usually has a field day while you hope you get Soldier or something like that.
