Watch_Dogs 2 |OT| .HTML

I already made my picks for GAF GOTY before I played WD2, but now I think I'm going to have to bump one of them off for this game. I'm just loving this so far. It's so much fun.

Isn't that just every single game?
Idk the first game in this same series was the one open world game where I felt both the stealth and open combat were equally enjoyable top notch stuff. Only other games that do those well in an open world are the Batman games I guess.
Everything about how this game plays makes me appreciate what the first game was more than I already did.

I can't remember if everyone instantly saw you when one did but even if it was like that, I remember never getting frustrated by them like in this game.
Also Hitman is a recent example of game where if someone detects you it doesn't instantly reveal you to everyone.

Isn't that just every single game?

Even in -- to use a recent high-profile example -- Dishonored 2, your being detected is isolated to the immediate area, whereas in Watch Dogs 2 literally every enemy within the territory highlighted as "bad" is immediately and omnipresently aware of your presence. There's no granularity.

Uncharted 4 was bad about this too. One enemy alerted and they all knew exactly where you were.

I did not know you can hack someones game while they are in co-op

How come you cant take your co-op partner into hacking a game, they made me drop my partner and took me into a co-op game to hack

Beat it. 22 hours. Finished at level 21. Beat most the races and most side content. Here are some quick takeaways:

-Overuse of profanity. I have no problem with swearing, but there's too much needless profanity in this game.
-Trys to be hip, rarely works.
-Fast Travel right away seems unnecessary. You made a beautiful open world game Ubi, make us explore it before unlocking fast travel!
-The radio stations SUCK. Terrible music selection. I found myself constantly changing the radio to classical, and I don't particularly care for classical music.
-Instant comradery between Marcus and Dedsec. Marcus just meets this hacker group and next thing you know they're best friends. Seemed off.
-Annoying audio overlap between audio files, phone calls, street chatter, TV breaking news, and mission briefings. Com'on Ubi...
-The dialogue is corny af, but that game doesn't take itself too seriously so it somewhat works.
-The ending felt rushed. The last mission was completely forgettable.

After all that, you're probably thinking I didn't like the game but I did. 8/10. I would say it's slightly better than the original; hardly the quantum leap that many think it is but I also really liked the first game. I rarely used stealth. If you're into running and gunning gameplay style like I am, do yourself a favor and grab the WTB Stun Gun Launcher. It's extremely powerful and I never once felt under gunned verse Blume and company.

Maybe it's my age lol but I much preferred the first game. The whole corny hipster vibe is just not doing it for me, seems to be going more down the saints row comedy route then the serious hacker style from the first game. Tries too hard to be "fun" imo.

That said it's a good game but I think the above coupled with open world fatigue means this is going to be the first game in a while that I quit before finishing.

I just started playing this game a couple days ago. I want to shoot the fuck out of guards and shit, but it feels like it wouldn't fit the character so I'm going stealth lol.

First game I just rampaged the fuck out of everyone.

I wish this game would give me a good reason to start murking people.

So far 2 has a better city and a larger variety of shit to do, but as of now I liked the tone of the first game more. It was all grimey with shady ass characters everywhere.

Guys! Are the coop missions endless? It seems when I done one, there comes plenty more.

I wanted to finish all missions but could you even finish all coop Missions?

I think they are endless but don't quote me on it. It would make sense because if you did them all and played co-op with a buddy you wouldn't really have much to do.

Finished Watch_Dogs OG and while I didn't hate it as some do, it was certainly average at best.

I platinumed Watch Dogs 2 this morning. Really enjoyed it. I was in the mood for an open world game this fall and this fit the bill perfectly.

Didn't realize I could gesture until I saw this thread.

So you're saying It's no TW3, but it's aight :) Probably gonna wait for the deep discount. Got a lot of other games to finish

One thing really frustrating. Is driving around you see a money/research point. You stop, infiltrate undetected, make a break to your vehicle. And it's gone!! Happens all the time. Sometimes you can find it parked other times it vanished. One minor gripe I have, but I love the game anyway.

I had a fantastic co-op session the other day. This guy turns up outside main base. His name is green and is listed as an ally. I didn't tone that was a thing. It gave me an option to join him, I didn't know that was a thing.

For the next hour we roamed around doing coop missions and somehow sort-of coordinating, although neither of us could communicate with the other. I used a scissor life to get him into the first floor of a building, I then took ground. When he was under fire, I RCd a forklift between him and the cops for cover.

He sent me an FR, but I haven't accepted it yet - not sure I want to spoil our time in the sun.

Also, I hacked a player using a combination of a drone and Prius. Nobody expects a Prius.

The co-op missions are the real surprise for me. Played co-op for 2 hours last night with a friend of mine who just got a PS4. We kind of did the same thing as you, where he would cover me and do the hacking via quadcopter or cameras and I would stun / melee the guards one by one. You really have to coordinate well because the guards' line of sight is pretty ridiculous sometimes. I didn't really expect to play the co-op in this game at all but it's really a blast.

I bought this day 1, but made the last minute decision to play through Watch Dogs 1 before starting this - so didn't get around to starting it until last week.

For the record - I really enjoyed Watch Dogs! It may have helped that my expectations were very low - and I definitely understand the complaints with the protagonist, city (Chicago should have been a GREAT open world location - it's just very poorly represented in this game), soundtrack, ending, etc. The high points are very high: Loved the stealth, combat, shooting & hacking. It's just a bit dull & doesn't feel cohesive or engaging. When it was over, I definitely had a 'That was it?' feeling.

Anyway - onto Watch Dogs 2. My wife really wanted to play this game with me (her first modern game was Mafia 3 and she loved it), so we started it together and have been taking turns passing the controller back & fourth.

Here are my initial impressions

  • Right off the bat, I was very disappointed with the graphics (I'm on PC, GTX 1070). It felt like a step down from the modded original I was playing, and a huge step down from GTA V (what open world game isn't?). This disappointment lasted through the first couple missions. After a combination of tweaking settings & getting used to how it looked - I now think it's a beautiful game. The city is incredibly well designed and detailed. The lighting just doesn't look right at times. At other times, (sunset) the lighting is some of the best in any open world game I've played - especially the way the sun hits the buildings.
  • Similar to the visuals - the controls seemed off and awkward at first. I didn't like that they completely rebooted the control scheme. The controls of the first game felt great - it took me a while to adapt to the new controls. There is a definite learning curve to mastering the controls - but it clicks after a while and now it makes perfect sense to me why they revamped them.
  • Combat SUCKS. Gunplay SUCKS. Stealth leaves a lot to be desired. The first game destroys this in all three aspects. I think anyone coming right into this game from the first will be extremely disappointed right off the bat - but disappointment fades quickly after a couple missions, when you realize the approach is completely different. After a little bit - none of these things (except sometimes maybe stealth) bothered me at all anymore. It's a different character, different approach and you realize these things - while hugely important in the first game - don't matter too much in WD2.
  • Soundtrack - an improvement from the first game, which is saying almost nothing - as that soundtrack was horrible. Mostly modern niche disposable garbage + lots of classical music. At least give me the option to add my own songs. A soundtrack in a open world city game is hugely important to me for replay value. I wonder if modders can somehow fix this?

Impressions after 10 hours in:
  • Beautiful city - beautiful details. GTA V is the best open world city I've ever experienced by far, but WD2 is inching closer every time I re-visit. There is no wasted space. I think the Bay Area is an ideal location for a game like this and it's so fun to explore. Absolutely love it. The textures are also incredibly nice to look at.
  • I LOVE THE DRONE AND RC CAR. At first, I wasn't that impressed - but they quickly won me over. So much fun.
  • Was worried about people saying the side missions aren't as fun as the first. I completely disagree. Even just getting a money bag is fun in this game. I love the challenge of finding ways into / onto buildings without being noticed.
  • The gun controversy is silly. I get it - Marcus isn't a killer - but you don't have to use guns. They're there if you want them - but you quickly realize guns aren't as fun. I'm glad they included them, because it's just another option. If they left guns out, people would be bitching about that. It's a lose / lose for them in that sense.
  • The humor is great. It's self aware and making fun of itself. It's light-hearted. Anyone who thinks this is cheesy is probably taking the game or themselves too seriously. If you're bothered by the 'foul language' - I don't know what to say... must be tough to stomach any HBO / Showtime show as well.
  • So much stuff to do! I've been just getting Research Points & Money Bags lately because I want to take my time with the story - I'm enjoying it so much. Literally everything in this game is fun to do. All the collectable are fun to find. It's not like GTA V where it's a complete chore tracking everything down - with no real reward (has anyone found all the spaceship scraps without google?)

Love the game - I can't believe it's not on more year-end top 10 lists. I knew I'd enjoy it, but it's so damn fun. I didn't expect to LOVE it. I hope the DLC is worthwhile. I hope sales improve and we get an even better 3rd entry, though just like GTA V - I don't know how they will top this.

Haven't touched online yet. Not a big online fan in general, but excited to try it out when I'm finished with the single player.

I finally finished the main story and all but one side mission. I completely stopped paying attention to the story about half way through. I enjoyed the gameplay a lot, although certain things like the enemy AI and fairy shitty driving annoyed me at times. I'm glad I bought it thought, even at full price. I thought it felt polished and it looked great on Pro.

It must be even more rewarding playing with a friend. It feels like there's a lot of room for improvisation too; having unexpected things happen can really cement a co-op experience in the mind.

It's a shame the controls aren't a bit tighter, though. It feels a little looser than it should do, I think.

Why does the antagonist remind me of comedian Nick Thune?

Am I the only one having issues with the Key Data in the New Dawn facility? I can see it, it blinks, but I can't pick it up. And the Key Data icon doesn't show up.

Any solutions?

Anybody know what's the easiest way to get the "One of The Gang" trophy?
So far I've only experienced that event once.

Hack the Hacker events are random, just continue playing, and your get more luck while playing coop or if another player iis near you

have you tried shutting down the game, booting back up and see if you can get it?
Or uninstall then reinstall the game, or try getting it with the jumper.

Really loved this (I loved the first game as well) and I'm quite sad that I have finished it now.

Only real gripes were the terrible radio stations and the vehicle handling (I played Mafia 3 alongside this, and the vehicles in that feel much better to me). In fact the vehicle implementation in general is piss poor. Traffic pops in and out of view. All vehicles have infinite gear changes. I have ridden a scooter that changed up gears 9 times, and cars that have changed up gears 12 times! Why the hell be so sloppy with shit like that?

One big disappointment, was that I missed all the snooping cams from the first game, just having a nosy in someone's house or apartment and catching a glimpse of their private lives. I thought some of them were great in the first game but there were only a few in this one.

just platinumed this game.

really enjoyed the experience, though - from a gameplay perspective it got a bit one-note.

You really have to force yourself to not just stay in detective vision throughout an entire mission and just quick-L1 an enemy before they spot you and down them with a tazer shot. (or choke them out - which is more permanent)
Like, when entering the galileo factory, i turned off the hack-vision for a moment just because Marcus pointed out how amazing the place looked.
Also, i feel like the enemies detect you far too easily and from too great a distance. Like, when you start choking someone out, another guard has enough time to spot and 'detect' you, before you're back in control of your character.

The driving mechanics are sub-par. The chemistry among the dedsec characters was great. The ending was rather abrupt and anticlimactic.

Also, for a game that doesn't have a dedicated jump button, or a grappling hook, the collectibles have plenty of pointless verticality - as in: You see something you need to hack / grab, which is locked by a red junction box on the roof - so you circle the entire building, trying to find carefully placed dumpsters or one of those scissor lifts... it's just busywork and not at all challenging.
And the limitation of your quad copter being unable to "pick up" things, which your RC car can, is super arbitrary. I get that you can't USB into junction boxes from a quadcopter, i don't get how a quadcopter would have a harder time picking up a money bag than a little RC car.

Many of those "wire puzzles" were really neat, though. especially the later, more intricate ones.

Also, it looks hella dope on the PS4 pro.

Wrench's
part of the last mission really sucks :( Feels like it really highlights the poor gunplay.

very much this.
Actually the mission i got killed the most ...

Just started on PS4. Is there a shortcut to the camera that I'm missing? It seems off to hit Options then navigate to the app every time, especially since I almost always mistakenly press the touchpad to open the map first.

I played up until a mission where
you hack a camera to help Aiden Pearce escape from a jail cell.
Getting out of there felt like the first time the game really wanted me to use a gun (stealthing was getting really frustrating). Hopefully there's more non-lethal options that don't make the game needlessly more difficult.

So I just completed the mission at Hook Motion Picture and left some stuff inside (some hackable rooms and money) and now I can't get back in. Is that stuff gone for good or can I get back in there later?

Thanks. Who would've though that my first ever platinum trophy was gonna be Watch Dogs 2, haha. Well deserved, I really enjoyed it.

I just got it through Gamefly and spent 3 hours on the game so far. Thankfully I haven't put in my GOTY list yet cause this is definitely on the list. It's also giving me more of what I thought the first game should've been.

Just started the game and I'm doing the opening show you around the HQ mission. My next objective is to visit the follower wall, but when I step up to the girl that has the marker over her, there's no button prompt to talk to her or anything. Am I missing something here?

Don't know if this is the issue, but I've had it happen that a few times if you get too close to the objective item / character, the prompt to interact can disappear.

Just reloaded the latest checkpoint and now the interact prompt is appearing. Must've been a bug. Thanks anyway!

Why can't I move data flow nodes with L1 on ps4 after a while? I can't figure out what's stopping me from completing these puzzles. Pressing L1 suddenly stops working and I have to restart the game to be able to mess with them again.

I tell you what, I absolutely love the way Marcus plays. He might as well be a Ninja in comparison to how it feels playing with Aiden. It's like liquid and I dig the stealthy first mission it threw at me, along with that laid back, sneaky tune that is playing. A great start.

I just completed the game. I loved it. I found the good majority of the missions to be fun including the side missions.

I found the ending to be reasonably disappointing if I'm being honest with myself. It just kinda,.. well.. ended.... abruptly.

This game is about 100% better than I ever thought it would be. It's nice to not only be surprised, but have your expectations totally blown away. Everything about it so far is just great. One of the most improved sequels ever.

- The gameplay is night and day better
- The music is better
- The environment is amazing
- The main character is likable
- The story is even neat and it is not as skinny jean hipster cringe as I thought. Not even close. Hell, you can even make Marcus dress like a biker.
