I just finished the game and I gotta say I'm impressed by the game. Last Final Fantasy I finished was X, skipped XI because I couldn't play it at the time, barely played XII, skipped XIII and XIV.
There's a lot of familiarity in terms of menus, SFX's, music and etc. I liked the world setting a lot, I feel like this must be the most contemporary Final Fantasy world to date. There's cars, machines, cellphones and a whole lot of contemporary items and behaviors working alongside fantasy elements like magic, wild beasts, daemons, gods and etc.
Really like the combat system, but wonder how it will be implemented in FFVII's remake since I don't remember Cloud phasing around to dodge. They'll have to do some adapting, but I feel like they have a nice direction to follow along. First Final Fantasy I've played where combat was a joy for me because it challenged me in the right ways.
The summons were not implemented classically, but I feel like they were well represented nonetheless. Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, Leviathan & Titan were memorable and were woven nicely into the story as gods. The Trials were pure eye candy, which was cool.
Not really a fan of how some of the characters were used and really feel like some elements of the plot could've used some more exposition, but I liked the story overall. Was surprised they actually went and handicapped a major party member halfway through the game. I wasn't really neither here nor there with Ignis, but his blindness and the way he handled it really brought me around. Made me feel for the guy.
Didn't really like how Luna was barely in the game and then she simply died and the game expected me to care for her. I consider myself a pretty empathetic guy, so I got by, but even I felt her character was way too absent from the game for them to hinge such a critical moment in Noctis' life on her.
Wish there were more dialogue boss battles like the one with the First Secretary.
