Also remember, this is NeoGAF ;)

Localisation (as in translation) shouldn't have been the issue here if the US version is ready for March. There's no reason why the other languages would not be ready yet. The game's EU translation has to be finished by now already if they launch it in mid-March.

Depending on the game, prior job advertisements for noe have implied they sometimes wait for the English version from NoA to translate in to the other EU languages, rather than go from Japanese to every language.

I would hope Zelda is big enough for that not to be the case here, but...

I wonder if it's a good idea to launch a major Mario and Zelda game at the same time.
Wouldn't it be better to launch Mario in March and Zelda in May?

Would keep the sales flowing.

I know I'm not buying them at the same time. First Zelda, then Mario.
And Zelda will take some time for me to complete.

Please don't judge Nintendo on this before anything official comes out.

Even Nintendo aren't that stupid.

Everyone in Europe would just import the game. They wouldn't really want that.

...Then you should be able to see how shit this is to us Europeans.

Overreacting? Fuck off.

Yes, overreacting, or you just have a hard time reading. The article doesn't say in any way that Zelda is delayed, just that the release date hasn't been locked yet. The author even said that the most probable case scenario is that NoE will just have to double down on the localization to have it in time.

They must assume Zelda would be a bigger draw on day one than 3D Mario. They'd probably be right about that. I just hope Mario comes shortly after launch.

I can understand why some people are upset... it's not like at least a couple years difference as it was with nes and snes at least....

Region free -> import
Not region free -> sad

We'll see next week.

I'm not willing to import because they can't get their act together. It's not up to the consumer to right their wrong.

I'd be really interested to know where Eurogamer got this information from though. Who else other than Nintendo themselves would know about this at this time.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Nothing is "clear" until its official announced next week from Nintendo. People need to stop acting as if everything we have heard so far is official or that EG and co. have access to the whole Switch presentation and its release schedule.

No need to overreact a week before the presentation.

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
I'm guessing at worse it'll be a Sun/Moon situation with about a weeks delay.
No biggie, especially if it's launching with Mario too. Im one of those gamers who solely focuses on one game until completion before moving on to the next. No way am I gonna have time for both Zelda and Mario at the same time, but I can understand why people are upset or worried.

Smaller companies than Nintendo can manage it for far more text heavy games than Zelda, you'd like to think that wouldn't be the reason for any delay

And people need to stop policing rumour threads with "it's not official yet". Well, doh!

Discussion is still allowed even if it's a rumour.

You're commenting on rumors on top of rumors. So for you to be this angry then yeah, you're overreacting.

I will wait for the first Switch price drop instead of getting it day 1 if it is both delayed in Europe and it's difficult to buy games from the US eShop while keeping an EU account though. Still feels like a pretty big IF at this point though.

Well first, none of this is confirmed.

When it is, if it is confirmed, feel free to overreact all you want.

In the meantime, yes, this is overreacting.

I'm sure NoE is throwing everything they can and the kitchen sink at this.

Stop overreacting to a rumour.
Act like that if you hear anything official.

People like you reacted like this when that NX touch screen only controller 'leaked'. It's ridiculous.

For big games with a tight schedule, they translate from the Japanese version if no English translation is available yet. I think the latest Zelda games even had a different English translation than the US version.

Mario Kart, Mario, Rabbids Kingdom and Splatoon are supposedly all fully localised into German. I very much doubt that the translation is the issue here. If it's not done by now already, then the game won't release in 2 months.

This really isn't true. Many western games release in Japan weeks or months later than they do everywhere else, due to things like translation.

And, like many other companies, plenty of Nintendo titles release globally at the same time.

Also, most publs aren't rushing to make sure a game is ready for the launch of a new console.

I have purchased all Nintendo hardware since the original monochrome GB but if the Switch is a) Region Locked and b) Zelda is not out this time I will give it a miss.

I have purchased a Playstation Pro a couple of months ago (the first non Nintendo console I have ever owned in 30 years of gaming) as I was bored of waiting for the odd WiiU title to come out, this would be the final nail in the coffin.

Zelda was basically done 24 months ago, never mind the minor technical adjustments and re-tooling they did afterwards, 95% of the language assets must have been finalised by then.

Telling EU customers they have to wait longer "because of localisation" is either an insult to our intelligence or a sign of absolute incompetence on Nintendo's part.

It's amazing how many armchair developers we have on this site. It's official. I need a break from GAF.

According to the previous rumours the QA after the localisation seemed to be the issue because of the size of the game.

Still too early to panic, but possible scenarios like these just make me hope even more that the Switch will be region-free.

Assuming development on Zelda was done 24 months ago is an insult to the dev team who worked over their holidays to finish the game - Aonuma already confirmed this:

- Aonuma says the dev team willingly give up their holidays in order to give their all to Breath of the Wild

If it's true because of localisation it's outright embarrassing that it's delayed. But we'll see. Nintendo wouldn't be so stupid to skip Europe for such a large title with month(s) worth of delays right? Right!?

Time for the Europe to feel the pain!!!!!
Atlus is still a thing so...

No. Just no. They are not going to sell a game targeted at all audiences (including children) at retail if it is English-only.

I seem to remember a bunch of N64 games not being translated to FIGS (including Goldeneye) but in this day and age it would be weird yeah.

Remember when Europe got Skyward Sword 1st?
Those were the good old days.

Great times. Nintendo of Europe had a huge marketing budget to do this Jedward thing for Dragon Quest IX, they were able to justify localising niche games into 5 languages all on their own for one region (Last Window, Another Code R), games like Kirby's Epic Yarn had all the voiceovers rerecorded with a different accent, etc.

If it's delayed in Europe then everyone can just take advantage of the console's region-free coding and import the game. Right? RIGHT?!

Oh man, if the system is region locked then my mind is blown. I've made so many bets it would be region free.
