While I do find discussing if Gaf can change something pointless in this case, cause obviously not, you are a bit underselling. #PS4NoDRM and all that.
You really think the #PS4NoDRM thing is why PS4 ended up not having DRM?
No, not at all. In fact, we at GAF tend to be so far outside the mainstream that our causes probably won't find the big support necessary anyway.
I would say we have about as much influence with Microsoft as we did with Konami.Guys, a whole bunch of journalists from the various different gaming websites as well as devs from very popular studios frequent GAF. I've seen articles written that credit GAF on various occasions. I wouldn't say that we have no influence.

What's the story between Kamiya and Sony?
I do think you are completely misstaken if you think I wrote this, yes.
Lets read again
Did the Gaf cause #PS4NoDRM gain big support? Yes, it did. The end.
True, but Sakurai has (had? remains to be seen) that status because he was close personal friends with Iwata, who also considered him a visionary and believed he deserved absolute freedom and blank checks from Nintendo. Going from the Iwata Asks interviews featuring Kamiya, it's likely that there are people at Nintendo who at least respect him, but no one who has a working relationship with him the way his fellow Capcom alumni do.
If Kamiya were to leave Platinum, would he actually have a team to lead on projects? Off the top of my head, I'm not sure why he would leave Platinum for a studio that doesn't have a working team in place for him.
Relationship with Microsoft over. Now Kojima is my best friend?
You can put Star Fox on that list.
Though Bayonetta and W101 are damn good games.
I don't see the two K's meshing well at all creatively.
They are much better off directing their own works than trying to codirect
MS thinks specs alone will sell their next console. Good luck with that.

I see the "every cancelled game would have been the greatest game of all times" rule applies as always.
I believe nobody is more pissed about this than MS.
They sunk a ton of money and time into this project and did not get what they payed for.
Their call and a really tough one.
When you are convinced that after 4 years of development you still have to pump in more money than you´ll make back it´s the right thing to do.
It sucks for everybody, but for them especially.
The reactions to the last E3 showing where horrible (also here on GAF...) and although I was pumped for this after the first showing it was obvious that this was not coming together.
Sucks.
For EVERYBODY.
It has a huge vocal gaming community but I doubt business decisions are made based on them.

Rightfully so. When it comes to the business side of things we are severely out of touch.
Well, Kamiya is a creator, not a businessman.
Scalebound was cancelled by MS, not Kamiya.
Not to play too much defense for Platinum, but milestones are variable.Shinobi confirmed this. Development was going badly and Platinum was missing deadlines
Look at the predatory Zenimax and how they use milestones to bleed out developers even though they are happy with the game.
During gamescom 2016 year they showed Scalebound in private showings.
They showed off something called "Dragon Link", something that they, as far as I know, haven't shown to the public ever and now possibly never will. Up until that point they only showed fairly basic combat that looked great but more in the vein of Dragon's Dogma and less like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. That's why many people used to Kamiya's games were pretty disappointed. And then they showed Dragon Link. It's a button you hold and then the camera switched into First Person Mode...and you controlled the dragon. So then you controlled the Dragon from Drew's perspective, which still looks HUGE because the camera doesn't zoom out but goes into first person and you fight against another huge Monster. And then they started comboing. They fluidly switched from Drew to the Dragon to Drew by holding or not holding the Dragon Link button.
Think the weapon system of DmC but instead of holding a button to switch to a certain weapon you hold a button to switch to a fucking dragon. So these two characters juggled that huge monkey enemy into the air with all the usual attacks and combos you know from Platinum Games only it was A HUGE GODDAMN DRAGON DOING THE COMBOS. There was a combo counter and a rating and everything. It was their direct answer to the "Where is the Platinum action?" question.
It looked fucking great and as far as I'm aware they have never released that footage, just as they never showed the HUGE array of customising options and RPG features.
I'm so mad about this cancellation. Goddamnit.
Well, Kamiya is a creator, not a businessman.
Salient thing for him to say.
I think most people here realise that GAF is a gaming enthousiast bubble that drifts around independently from the wider community (for example its dislike of Skyrim and COD show this). We should not (and generally do not) expect company es to actually listen to our advice.
Still, GAF does command quite some respect in the more involved gaming community for its gaming knowledge and insiders, so we should probably not downplay its relevance too much.
Assuming these tweets are bullshit (which could be, ofc.) it's not even about Scalebound being the best game ever.I see the "every cancelled game would have been the greatest game of all times" rule applies as always.

GAF dislikes BethesdaGAF dislikes Skyrim?
GAF dislikes Skyrim?
Huh, interesting, didn't know that was a GAF initiative. I probably did.. undersell it a bit. Still, #ps4nodrm was likely something that resonated with people outside GAF a lot too, and picked up steam from there. Few causes would garner such passionate backing, and Scalebound is one of those that won't.
:/ If you're happy with something gaining support but not functionally accomplishing anything concrete, okay, cool. That kind of hollow accomplishment isn't even worth bringing up in response to the idea of "Can NeoGAF somehow save Scalebound?" though, which is what you were responding to.

Microsoft takes the wrong signals, think back to 360, people watch lots of Netflix, Kinect sold loads etc, thus the Xbox One, people buy the more powerful PS4, here comes Scorpio. They can't think beyond stats.
Why is everyone saying "if Kamiya leaves"? Why would he leave his own company after one game cancellation?
Am I missing something here?
Yeah it's pretty weird seeing a lot of people in this thread act like scalebound's cancellation is doomsday for the Xbox. It's one game and it's a game that many people thought would flop to begin with.I'm not sure how Scalebound is what's make or break in terms of this. Good games will help sell Scorpio and if Scalebound wasn't quality then it wasn't going to "sell their next console". Heck, to be honest I doubt it would have helped sold it much even if the game was solid considering its style/genre. They have multiple other console (brand) exclusives coming soon.
He seemed to be right in bed with Sony in PS2 days, but (I could be wrong) doesn't seem to have done a single exclusive with Sony since. Despite most his games being platform exclusivesSome people confused him for Mikami.

Is this just coincidence?
When Bayo1 came out, word of mouth made the game sound like this:
![]()
"Did you hear about that action game with the naked chick? IGN gave it a 9.6!"
By the time the game had gone through the critical discourse and the sequel was coming out, people realized the game was more like this:
![]()
It's a subtle distinction, but the former has potential mass-market appeal while the latter doesn't.
At least that's my take on it.
